  1. Mets see the Braves 6 series. That means at least 6 'reunion' fluff pieces about Wright and the Uptons, and never mind if one game makes it's to National media.

Ceets was pretty derisive of his efforts when he filled in for Tejada, during an injury, mostly because he wasn't Reyes. Indeed he wasn't. As bench players named Ronny who used to start for Pittsburgh, he was better than Ronny Paulino. His crown won't be official until Ronnie Belliard joins the Mets (after he joins the Pirates first), but I hope we can just assume that one and give him the cup. Not as derisive as I was/am of Tejada because he's not Reyes. but Cedeno definitely is one of those guys that grew on me.
  4. who signed with the Cardinals tonight. Best backup infield we've had in ages. Really took to the Dave Hudgens approach.
  5. btw, Kudos on the thread title.

I dunno, I'm extremely skeptical of defensive numbers, particularly to an absolute like that. UZR/150 had him negative just back in 2011. (Could be a quirk of him switching teams?) He's also a plus baserunner. I guess this plays in more valuably in a Lucas Duda outfield, but I still don't really like him. I'm thinking this is Carlos Beltran's fault though. You don't generally have hitters like that in CF I guess. Pagan was good in that regard too.

I here there's this cool "Beer Table Pantry" thing in Grand Central.

That's so funny, i pulled a muscle. oh wait, you were serious. no, i was being silly with the word prize, but either way, Brown is the guy tagged to 'replace' Scott Hairston (It's a low bar, despite how good a year he had) and Cowgill is seemingly more of an Endy Chavez/CF type guy. Although Brown putting up the value that Hairston did would be one of the less surprising things to happen in baseball.

But you can orgasm to 30 post threads that deify Charlie Cogwell and his wifey if that makes you happy. Andrew Brown is the real prize here. Cowgill is the CF/defensive filler guy.
  12. smg58 wrote: Prado has a 109 career OPS+ to Upton's 117. That's not a big difference, especially when you consider that Prado can play anywhere. Delgado is already major-league ready and is poised to improve, and two of the Braves' top 5 prospects are going as well. The Braves are paying for the 2011 version of Justin Upton, but they lose this deal if they get anything less than that. Also they lost Chipper Jones. So this isn't a straight up addition to 2012.
  13. Just because they didn't re-sign him doesn't mean they lacked the ability to. Maybe they're completely broke (why lobby for the 'ability' to sign Bourn then?) or maybe Alderson valued the slim chance of keeping Hairston more than the slim chance whatever junk he was offered for him making a contribution. It's not obviously one way or the other.
  14. no, because there was NO ONE TO GET for Hairston. Kelly Shoppach maybe? I'm sure we had this argument at the time. I don't believe it's necessarily to dump players off just for any filler minor leaguer with a Power Ball chance of every contributing just because they were out of it. I think the slim chance that Hairston took some sort of hometown discount/quick re-sign 1 year type deal was worth keeping him for. You can read financial conspiracy into everything if you like, but it's equally possible Alderson felt it just wasn't worth trading him, and wasn't worth re-signing him for that price. doesn't make it wrong.
  15. batmagadanleadoff wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Nice thing to have on the team. If you don't have a Hairston, you need one. That said, I'm not terribly sad that he is moving on. It would be difficult to imagine another 20-HR season in part-time duty, by the same guy, two years in a row. Churn, churn churn these guys. Maybe. Maybe Hairston falls off a bit in 2013. And maybe the Mets did sell (or let go) high. But there's no doubt in my mind that the reason Hairston's no longer a Met has everything to do with the fucking crisis hanging over the franchise and nothing else. The Mets are a fucking embarrasement right now. That doesn't make any sense. if the Mets could spend at will, the first thing they'd do is spend money on guys to make sure Hairston got as little playing time as possible. Especially for 2014. Just because some teams might be able to blow $3-4 million doesn't mean they should.
  16. batmagadanleadoff wrote: It's a real good thing that we didn't trade Hairston last season. A real good thing. Just think where the Mets could be with like..another Pedro Beato type on the 51s roster!
  17. Chris Young was always said to have 'deceptive velocity' on his slow fastball. Marcum is only 6foot, but throws about as hard, so what's going to be the spin for why he gets guys out (and better than Young)?

  19. Edgy MD wrote: Tovar played the second half of the season in AA last year, virtually all at shortstop. Good point. Not sure how I missed that when I looked. sloppy. Bixler can play the OF too..hmm..leg up? Better get that glove ready Lutzy..
  20. Edgy MD wrote: Reese Havens, Wilfredo Tovar, and the starter Ruben Tejada, of course. Havens hasn't played there since A+ in 2009, and Tovar hasn't played above that level period. So yeah, seems like Hicks should start getting familiar with Tejada's backside.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: I would think that backup shortstop spot is Brandon Hicks' to lose. is there even anyone else that can play SS on the 40 man?(Not counting Flores, Turner or Wright?)
  22. Gwreck wrote: There's nothing unfair or inaccurate in Megdal's report, and MLB's steady price increases for post-season and All-Star Game events is very much a newsworthy story. Displeasure with Megdal's writing is well-documented. Perhaps it should be limited to situations that warrant it. Perhaps linking his stories should be limited to situations that warrant it. Was anyone complaining/blaming the Mets for the prices?
  23. Edgy MD wrote: that's not getting him out of Buffalo Vegas. I almost wonder if the Mets aren't best served starting him in the majors regardless of him fitting, forcing him into some games/AB and hoping to trade him. but hey, not on the 40 man. I can't see Turner not making the roster. But despite being right-handed he's part of the poor offense against lefties problem. Which is why trying him in the outfield doesn't make sense. but hey, toss Lutz out there. Can't exactly be worse defensively with Duda right?
  24. Lutz (or Satin) would both be better options than Turner. Turner, is really a 2b/3b, but a counterpart 1B/SS is ..odd. So find (Ronny Cedeno) an okay SS/2B and you can use one of these guys on the corners. Or I guess we can stick with the musical chairs of sometimes Duda or Murphy at first or even Turner and Murphy and Turner can occasionally play third and then you just get one of those guys that tells a nice joke for the roster to back of Tejada (even though Tejada has probably the weakest bat of the four..(five if you include Turner?) ) In that case you can probably carry Lutz as a righty-bat and just occasionally shove him at first or third.
  25. metirish wrote: One plan holder told Adam Rubin that his $36 dollar Promenade Gold seat would cost him $799 for the All-Star weekend events, which include the Home Run Derby, Futures Game, and celebrity softball game along with the All-Star contest itself. Metspolice.com had prices ranging from $453 for Section 538, the furthest section from the action out in left field, to $821 for a Caesar's Club ticket, which is roughly equivalent to Shea Stadium's Mezzanine. Geez, we know fans get priced out of these things but this really brings it home..... Basically $1000 for two people to go. Which is roughly what I expected and probably what I'll spend if I can.. SRO might be only $400 each. (was $190 in Pittsburgh in 2006) prices for strips obviously.
