1. I had like two hours of kitchen chores to do last night, so this was a real crimp in my evening to not also have a deGrom/Mets game to watch. Having said that, it did make it a bit easier for us to focus on recording episode 15 of the (euphemistically) much beloved https://www.barleyprose.com/baseball/mets-on-tap-episode-15/Mets on Tap podcast, brought to you by the word smythes of Barley Prose (myself, Ceetar and Seawolf this week). Do you want a weird 8 minute tangent about Matt Franco? OF COURSE YOU DO
2. probably get an official start time in a few minutes. My money's on 9:25.
3. yellow-bellied chicken shit. how's that?
4. yes, it's the manager's job to get his players vaccinated and not play them hurt and remove them when they're hurt and manager their workload, their prep, and all that, so they don't get hurt. He's just as much a pansy as every other manager across the country that's not mandating vaccines for his workers. Even more so maybe, because there are tangible benefits to reaching 85% that he could help them reach. He's failing the 60 or so percent of them, including Lindor, that ARE vaccinated and are still being limited in some of their freedoms around the ballpark. He's not finding a way to win, the players are. Mostly the pitchers. In part because of the changes to the baseball. He's choosing the right relievers but mostly they've ALL been effective. It's not like he's piecing together innings (especially with the nonsense 7 inning stuff) with luck and matchups. He didn't sign these guys. He should win manager of the year because Jacob deGrom is literally unhittable? please. Give it to Hefner if anything.
5. There's another BIG thing Rojas could do, as 'management' that would be great for risk management. GET TO 85% VACCINATED. On top of that, It's extremely narrow-minded to credit him for the 6th string guy doing well but not dock him for the 5th string guy getting hurt. Like, Having these guys ready to go and staying healthy and not playing them through injury is a big part of it, and he's failed, badly.
6. _I'm_ not pivot. I still think he's doing a poor job overall as far as I can tell, but I"m not a voter.
7. =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=70404 time=1625588817 user_id=119] Great song! He's going to be NL Manager of the Year, I think.
8. That of course is the stated justification for every night game start. (Day games benefit attendees, not tv watchers). there are millions of tv viewers and like 20k people in the stadium? a 1pm start probably monopolizes my whole day. a 7:10 (or maybe a 6:30?...) start allows me to do things and still top it off with the game. Even kids. There are large amount of kids that are busy pretty much every saturday afternoon. Also plenty of people are working today anyway. Or Saturday/Sunday afternoons. Of course, the way the game is going much of the people that are also can't really afford to go to many games. Honestly the 'best' solution is probably something akin to this mish-mash we have now, where there are start times running the gamut appealing to people of all different schedules. We may have to be dragged there, but we ARE moving to a less "Everyone works 9-5 and goes home" society (again, class arguments here).
9. it's a weird day today because I guess most people just aren't doing _anything_? I'm so beyond burnt out from this weekend, but I guess in other circumstances would be a perfect time to have another BBQ or something and then I'd much rather the game tonight when I can relax and watch versus trying to follow while doing things.

11. it's not even worth worrying about. It wasn't consensual and the cops baited and recorded conversations between them. He's rich though and her statement even made some "go to therapy" type concessions. They'll settle and most people will just ignore it. Dodgers won't even sit him down here.
12. =Gwreck post_id=69489 time=1625003455 user_id=56] =Ceetar post_id=69465 time=1624991679 user_id=102]The Mets front office is a mess so I don't even know what to expect from them
13. I don't have the energy to subjectively rank last year's bench versus this year. or 2019 for that matter, since 2020 was stupid and unfair. Absolutely I want Cespedes instead of Pillar. It's criminal that Yoenis doesn't have a job right now.
14. =ashie62 post_id=69479 time=1624999800 user_id=90] Morton k'd 11 Mets the last time out.
15. sure, it's the "put back a regular ball in play" I was focusing on. I don't even know what counts as regular now, as they've been manipulating it for years now to what seems like random effect.
16. but particularly the Mets because of the humidor the Mets are using this season. This season? I've heard "rumors" they've been doing this for years but I can't find anything concrete. Was there something new? as for the ball itself, MLB seems particularly inept at that, and I'm not really sure what they were even aiming for, or what is 'normal' anymore. I do think the offense will be better than it has too for sure. And I really don't think the other teams have what it takes to really catch the Mets either.
17. Here's the other one. A little tougher to bomb that one you'd think, but a 90.5 mph fastball to a guy like Schwarber who I think is pretty free-swinging plus locked in, and i dunno. Should've probably been a little more in than that, though looks like Eickhoff was gipped on that first pitch in this AB too. Eickhoff confessed concern that he was tipping his pitches. If so (or if they have a camera somewhere) it's not surprising he cranked this one.
18. It's not so much about the plans persay, just sorta looking at the roster and where the 'extra' is. Cano is still a guy. He's still a Hall of Fame caliber hitter the last we saw him. He hasn't played against MLB level competition, but you don't just dump an asset for the hell of it. I'm not saying he's a big consideration, but you still have to actively decide what to do with him and what he's worth, or you're not worth anything as a GM. And that plays into if you're thinking of a "post Jeff McNeil" Mets team, even right now. Even if that's just "we're okay pretending Cano is our 2022 2B guy, because we expect a strike anyway and maybe we have more information when that resolves itself" and you trade McNeil for a package that helps you now. I dunno. But the front office is a mess, no matter what you think about the guys they took flyers on this year versus last year. I dunno, I kind feel like I'd rather have Porcello than Eickhoff if we're coming right down to it. Or Stephen Matz for that matter. Or Yoenis Cespedes. But they've fired like 2-3 GMs, Sandy is but isn't but is, but isn't? the decision maker. Will he be here next year? are there more dominos from the BS sexual assault fixer they hired? Is Zack Scott permanent? temporary? interim? is he making decisions with long term in mind? They're still working on the last admin's second choice as manager, and certainly couldn't have given a lot of thought to the hitting coach they quickly replaced Chili Davis with. So like, is that group motivated to "make a run for it?" are they going to trade prospects in July, or bank on Carrasco and the like returning? Are they thinking long term?
19. Edgy MD wrote: the "EVERYBODY does it!" argument is dumb. Yes, other managers make bad in-game decisions. That doesn't change anything. I don't think it's dumb. I think the difference between a particular problem and a systemic problem is important. He's basically saying it's not a problem, because you can't get better at that aspect of the game. Whether it's systemic or exclusive to Rojas is irrelevant to if the Mets can improve on it. It's like saying you shouldn't throw out your milk if the power goes out on your block because the power is out on the whole block, not just your house.
20. The Mets front office is a mess so I don't even know what to expect from them, and if they're prepared going forward. Like, two big parts of the math is the DH and the strike next season. I'm not sure Cohen's been here long enough (at least ,paying attention wise, he's been here for nearly a decade) to have a feel for the ownership and if they're going to get their back up about negotiations and end up with a strike. If there's no DH, you might want to resolve this Alonso/Smith thing. Smith hasn't been a butcher necessarily in the OF, but it's not ideal. Alonso isn't great at first either, and you definitely might be able to get surplus value there if you're trading him to a hitters park. Like it or not, pending whatever testing/strike does, Cano is back next year and better than McNeil. Do you just keep McNeil and lose Davis? McNeil has been really good, the entire time, except for this year, but it's an injury plagued small sample, so I dunno that it's anything but that. I assume he'd start to get the hang of playing with Lindor after some more reps, if there's really much issue there. I dunno, there's a lot of possibility, but nothing clear to me, about what the Mets should do. Need another serviceable starter for sure, maybe 2. Honestly I'd love to go to a 6-man somehow for like, July, and ease into a little more of a 'deGrom goes every 5th day regardless of off day' type schedule, hoping that the slower, 6-man rotation keeps him healthier in the meantime.
21. yeah but it's Tim Britton. He's not gonna criticise the manager unless it's a good story or he's slightly evasive in questioning. the "EVERYBODY does it!" argument is dumb. Yes, other managers make bad in-game decisions. That doesn't change anything. The issue with the last Eickhoff-Schwarber matchup.. I dunno, I don't like walking guys like that, period, but what you CAN'T do is hang a slider in the exact same place you just grooved a get me over 3-0 fastball. Rojas has to know if he can trust Eickhoff to pitch around a guy, give him sliders and see if he'll chase. Arguably once you got to 3-0 and he didn't (pitch 3 was probably a strike) you definitely just give him the ball four. The approach seems sound, throw him a 3-1 slider off the play after a fastball in the middle, maybe he'll swing and you're at a full count. If pitch 5 was where 2 was. But I don't think Eickhoff has the track record, this year, this game, this career, to trust in those spots. If it's Stroman? sure, the math is more in the favor of 'trust your guy to make the right pitches'.
22. no, it's closed. was a dump anyway. The Wilpons are squatting in the Mikkeller space I think, with the Ebbs brewery and/or related seltzer brands. But the bar is definitely not open.
23. what time and how many innings and what channel it's a shame this stuff isn't standard.
