  1. that's because Satin got thrown at second on a ball that hit the wall. #slow. Duda walks, corners, and now Indians visiting the mound. Let's see if Turner can get us an early lead.

Mike Napoli hit like 7 more HRs today, plus I think his beard grew at least another half foot. One more between these two teams tomorrow night (and can you believe it's the ESPN game?!?!) and then another series next weekend in Fenway. My schedule says this is an afternoon game. well yeah, this way they're going against the NE, Buffalo and Jets games, and not the Giants.

Nothing beats seeing the hopes & dreams of an Empire dashed. I have to admit that I liked YSIII as a ballpark. I think it's better than YSII in many respects. well, low bar. It's a little sterile (unless they've fixed that, it's been 3 years for me) but it has it's nice points.
  4. Eli Manning scares a woman's curly hair straight with death-stare, she's just impressed by his car.
  5. Gah! It's not so bad. indeed. some of the low security places even have internet right? So you post here all day anyway. bingo. I've been exhausted and busy with the new house, but I already have a lot of photoshopping planned in my future (I do a more complicated calendar every year) so what's a couple more? There seems to be a couple of places to self-print them: http://www.printfirm.com/trading-card-printing.html http://www.mytradingcards.com/products.aspx?id=blank_trading_cards&cattid=1821
  6. lose again. Tampa losing keepings them 2.5 out but Cleveland and the Orioles pass them again. Mike Napoli's grand slam was literally a fly out in basically any other stadium or one with Endy Chavez playing outfield.
  7. Guy struck out in over half of his plate appearances. That won't get it done.
  8. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Ceets we know you hate Junior, but he's not Willie Harris ... yet. Eh ,they have almost exactly the same OPS both for their careers and for the Mets. Both are seemingly considered good defenders where really neither are. (although EY's FLD numbers have crossed into positive recently)

  11. he's beloved to me still. I have absolutely zero issue with what ended up being his last game. I'd take him back in a heartbeat if it worked within the Mets budget.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Red Sox, stunningly, are up 18-4 on Detroit. Detroit's a great team, but if you can exploit their defense or get into their bullpen, they can be beat, or, if you're the Red Sox, CLOBBERED. I'm confused. Is it Wednesday again?
  13. Vic Sage wrote: i guess that's right, but it's still an irritating thing for him to say publicly. He could have just said, "we are not prepared to discuss our off-season plans for staff and players", and leave it at that. nobody wants to hear no comment. So you fill your speech with cliches and maybes and unformed thoughts that don't reveal anything you're decided on already, basically say nothing, but everybody still thinks it's worthwhile to parse your statements and listen in.
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Cal Ripken moved to third base as he aged, didn't he? That's another possible path for Jose, depending on who his teammates are, and, I suppose, what his power numbers are. He's got a strong arm too. Feel like he could do this. But not in a 'return to the Mets' type way of course.

  16. Zvon wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: I have to say, Dillon Gee's turnaround is one of the highlights of the season. Back on May 1 (or thereabouts) I never would have expected that in September I'd be saying, "Oh, good, Gee is pitching today!" I wrote him off about the same time. His turnaround has been quietly uplifting. GG! Played like winners and won. Indeed. Once he recovered his arm strength and velocity, he's been good after a good year last year. I guess pitching with tears in your shoulder is the new market inefficiency.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: Ceetar wrote: because a new guy would presumably at least be included in the retaining of the coaches discussion right? If they bring in a veteran manager, he'd more likely be allowed to have a say in who his coaches are. If it's a rookie manager, I think he takes the staff that he's given. Perhaps. I don't know if that's how it should be though. If you're hiring a guy to be leader, you should let him choose who works under him, no matter if he's a veteran or a rookie. If you're going to micro-manage a little bit and direct 'how' you want your manager to manage (i.e. stick with this pitching/hitting coaches game plan, work with it) then maybe just stick with Collins.

    Who's Next

the hint might be the rumor that Warthen will stick. (unless it's baseless anyway) It seems more like that Terry stays or someone/Backman is promoted from the system to manage, because a new guy would presumably at least be included in the retaining of the coaches discussion right?

    Who's Next

I went with Backman, I feel like it's the inertia choice. I don't like it though. I want Bobby Valentine back, or someone equally intelligent about the game. (I feel the same way about Dan Warthen. Think he'll be back, think there are certainly better and more creative options) I love watching guys manage that are always thinking. And with all the data available to managers these days, an intelligent guy can make a difference, although there would be a lot of teeth-nashing I'm sure.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: The one thing we cant afford going into the future is a period of one or two months of assessment. I combine this with the first bit to take a hope that if a guy makes the club out of camp, he's made it, arbitration status be damned. Let's break camp with more of the team in place. He's made all sorts of 'not punting' references in the past, including this Spring, but now as much as admits that the first two months were extended evaluation periods for the OF/Bullpen. That was very obvious of course. But I imagine late last year he probably said similar things about getting real outfielders. Have we reached the point yet where Sandy will acquire the OF he wants, or if the price/situation isn't right will he still continue to walk away?
  22. Edgy MD wrote: What I'm thinking we should do is put get our photogs and designers and writers together and make a set of 2013 cards just for distribution among ourselves. And then call in our lawyers when MLB and MLBPA come gunning for us. works for me, my lawyer's a Mets fan. wait, Cards or Calendars? I'd definitely design a card/month and contribute if we're group sourcing this venture.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: No idea. Infielder.. I'm thinking it's Red before his hair grew out. Right, I forgot he did that. He makes the most sense (in the 'who played second/SS' game.) I laugh at these things every year. I always look forward to the first of September to see how stupid they're going to be. Snapfish calendars are simple to make. Zvon should whip up a contemporary one on 12/1 with some of his "KABOOM!" images and what not, market it on #MetsTwitter.

  25. metsmarathon wrote: i tend to think that you need to treat starting pitches like you would distance runners (and perhaps relievers/closers as sprinters). the only way to run long is to train long. or weight lifting maybe. I agree. I don't know that they aren't doing this though, i'm no expert. I know from my experiences with exercising that some days your muscles hurt more or strain more easily. One day is not the same as the next. Will a pitcher only throw 80 pitches on a day he can feel his body straining? or will he muscle through it to damaging results? And the days his muscles are loose and warm and he can throw 130 with ease...will he? They talk about watching a guy for changes in mechanics, but do they really? tight 6th inning one run game runner on second, 1 out, guys tiring and ends up altering his mechanics slightly for 10-15 pitches to get out of it..a pitching coach is really going to go out there and make him change? Or are they going out there to give him a breather, hoping that'll get his arm back where it belongs and going back to the dugout praying he doesn't twist his wrist a little toooo much while tired?
