Howie had a very nice sign off, thanking lots of people over the last few innings and then inviting everyone to join them for next season - "check your local listings." Seeing a sellout at the ballpark was strange. On days like this I am left to wonder what our stadium could be like if only we could get a winning team to play in it. Almost spoiled now, between Opening Day and the ASG and today.. I've seen it full a lot this year. It'd have been nice if they hadn't packed up half the concession stands andthe beer coolers were half empty too.

I mean, he's not dead is he and that's just some cloned version of him pitching in his place? I figure it's either that or he enjoys getting all adorned in order to pitch in honor of himself. hmm, they don't drug test for cloning right? That'd make sense.
  5. Oktoberfest at Citi Field.
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: The other thing is that only a handful of FAs these days even qualify for compensation -- five or six last year maybe? -- so some folks are talking about tanking the end of a season in order to solve a "problem" that may not even exist. It's not like the old rules when every situational reliever (Feliciano) would net his old team a draft pick and sometimes several. And I'm certainly not overly concerned about whether the Mets pick 10th or 12th.
  7. HahnSolo wrote: I assume this is what Gary was referring to last night. He was admonishing the unnamed "articles I've read lately" about the Mets tanking to maintain a bottom ten pick. Mets probably don't win out anyway, how about I root for the other teams to win all their games instead of the Mets to lose?
  8. metirish wrote: You know, I knew when I posted the link it would become about Megdal, last time I do that. It is rather annoying that he gets under your skin so easily, yes, you and Ceetar have a lot more to offer than that, yet you both get hung up on him. And I offered more than that. I just noted it seems like something he wouldn't have a worry about.
  9. metirish wrote: I've been seen articles about this, squeaky bum time here and the Mets winning games might or might not be a good thing....right now the Mets have the 11th "best" record in baseball....the worst place to be says Megdal, losing last night left them where? http://www.capitalnewyork.com/article/sports/2013/09/8534093/lets-go-mets-or-not how much should I care about this?, seems like I should but are there lots of variables going on? Why does Megdal care, I'm sure he believes the Mets aren't going to buy any free agents anyway. Protected pick would be nice, but if we lose out on an 11th or 12th draft pick that may have an impact on 2017 and beyond it's not going to make or break anything.
  10. It's tricky of course. Davis clearly has higher highs and lower lows. He also has more power, and adds value defensively. The way the Mets are right now, I'd think you'd want to find a way to play both, since you otherwise have like two hitters. Maybe three if d'Arnaud blossoms. So I'd say it depends on what you get to fill the other offense. If you get some really solid hitters that aren't as power-oriented, maybe you keep Davis for the home run stuff, but if you get a masher, maybe you focus more on Duda's steadier consistency and safer OBP.
  11. eh, small sample size, etc etc. Sure, he can be one of the invitees to Spring Training for a low price, but there will be plenty of guys to choose from for that role anyway.
  12. Centerfield wrote: *This should not be confused with the Mets' idiotic decision to run the "Your Post-Season has Come" ads in 2007. That was done either out of carelessness, or a desire to get a jump on post-season tickets (as if post-season tickets are a hard sell?). The thread naming was a bold prediction. well, selling the tickets early is just how it's done, for printing purposes. the Yankees sold playoff tickets this year too. I don't know what slogans they used in advertising it, but I'm not sure using a twist of the season slogan can be considered idiotic, even if you think the slogan was idiotic to begin with. Anyway, here (this is way wrong btw..10/14 is not game 7 of the World Series...) http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-4-TIX-New-York-Yankees-World-Series-GAME-7-10-14-Yankee-Stadium-Sect-428-/271276629352?pt=US_Tickets_all_in_one&hash=item3f2958dd68

I guess they were technically 'alive' on 9/21/08, but with an elimination number of 1, and still 6 games to go, it certainly wasn't meaningful.
  14. oh and I forgot, they apparently wouldn't let anyone into the stadium since the bobbleheads hadn't arrived yet.

Yeah, saw some of that on various social media, seemed like a real fuck up. Near riots over a bobblehead doll?, grow the fuck up wankers. Not having the bobbleheads ready, messy voucher system, long waits to get them when they did arrive,(line stretched all the way up to the upper deck) saw that someone on Twitter said he got 8, which means they allowed people to buck the system somehow, plus only for first 18,000 fans.

    Who's Next

And just like that, Adam of the Rubin reports that Backman is expected back, man. Backman likely to be invited back to Vegas September, 23, 2013 SEP 23 6:00 PM ET By Adam Rubin | ESPNNewYork.com Adam Rubin Sandy Alderson expressed optimism Triple-A manager Wally Backman will be invited to return to the helm of the Pacific Coast League club in 2014. Alderson added that Backman would be considered if a spot on the major league staff became vacant. Backman managed the 51s to an 81-63 record and division title this past season. Las Vegas was ousted by Salt Lake in the first round of the PCL playoffs. So much for reading anything into Backs not joining the staff in September. well, you can still read into it if you like. Alderson saying "We still want to keep Backman around" is pretty much the least he can say. And the wording, if that's Alderson's, about 'major league staff' is the interesting part. That seems like the carrot to keep Wally happy about 'upward mobility'. Or, it could be Sandy hinting that he's the successor should things not work out with Collins. Or hell, it could be a hint that they're not happy with Geren.
  20. This is a good intro call from last year. Windows 7+ no longer has sound recorder so you have to scroll to 5:45 to find the beginning. http://www.ceetar.com/sounds/metsextra2_052412.wma

If he pitched for today's Yankees, he'd be known as the member of the staff with the lean physique. still holding my breath. I believe I remember showing up to work on the last monday of 2007 and updating my magic number to clinch to 3.
  24. Is there anybody better than David Wright? damn.
