  1. Rubin: Niese will fly to New York on Sunday night and undergo an MRI with team doctor David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan on Monday. Jonathon Niese doesn't believe the elbow discomfort he suffered Sunday is significant [he] indicated he initially injured it 10 days ago in an intrasquad game. He said the discomfort is in the back of the elbow, not in the vicinity of the forearm ligaments that can lead to Tommy John surgery. He had been taking anti-inflammatory medication for 10 days, and added that the elbow did not pose a problem during his 2014 Grapefruit League debut on Tuesday. It began posing a problem in the second inning Sunday when he hyperextended it on a pitch. "It's the back of the elbow, which is good," Niese said. "I'm almost 100 percent sure it's nothing serious like Tommy John or anything. It's just a little discomfort. I wanted to go back out there. It's something that I could definitely pitch through. I don't know about you, but it's always comforting to me when the patient pronounces it not serious, especially so when he does it before the examination takes place. I don't understand why he _stopped_ taking the anti-inflammatories? I mean, he's got that partially torn rotator cuff..

  5. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: We understand that but not sure that Reiber's Readers will. He in fact comes out and says it "marks an apparent change in the Mets' thinking." also sticks to the "Tejada is lazy and doesn't care" trope about motivating him. But guess what? It's spring training and none of this matters. His ceiling isn't quite high, but it's also acceptable and the half year of AB he put in last year is a small sample compared to the total. If the Mets really don't sign Drew.. I'm not real confident in Tejada and never really liked him, but I'm not thinking he'll repeat last year. .270/.329/.345 Barely acceptable, but not disastrous. Plays just barely sub-par defense at short. about 140 games. btw, his babip last season was .228 and his career is .302.
  6. serviceable 4th outfielder. the more he plays, the worse off the Mets are. .251/.318/.329 150 PA. 12 SB.

I am assuming the Mets are bargain shopping as usual and have expectations of more than $8 million in production. pretty much, though I like the price/risk for Young better than say Nelson Cruz and I think I agree with the one solid/one gamble OF acquisitions. Both Granderson AND Choo would've perhaps been too much.

These things have been mired in red-tape and political dealings for years but people feel the need to dredge it up after every minor milestone or adjustment, so yeah, you've probably read 99% of it a couple of times. When I was at Citi last month there even a couple more shops that had left. It's looking even more abandoned and disgusting.
  9. I cannot not confirm my own existence, but I HAVE met a whopping 4 cranepoolers who maybe can. wait, 5. Youcan click on the team name and the owner should give it away Snukes is @saltygary on Twitter, not a cranepooler.
  10. I think you're overestimating what $8 million production is. It's not very much in this market.
  11. .255/.340/.430 24 HR. Plays mostly left field. Steals more bases than Eric. Gets 2 outfield assists in April at the plate. Mets win both those games by 1 run.

  13. He's dropped a "smarter not wiser" workout quote this spring, which I've always thought was smart even if it sounds like a "best shape of my life" quote. I think he'll be awesome, as usual. .305/.405/.505 25 HR, both 100 RBI and 100 R (thanks Curtis). MVP. Gold Glove. Silver Slugger. Starting the All-Star Game. Drops a "It's my turn to run this city" quote when asked about that washed up statuesque druggie Shortstop across town. There will be at least one picture of Molly and Mrs. Met this season.
  14. Comments from a disinterested and unbiased observer: Scott Boras: Teams weak at shortstop owe it to fans to sign his client Stephen Drew I suspect a "Anonymous GM: Players that still don't have contracts should wonder about their self-valuation" is coming soon.
  15. same spiel, headline is misleading, and features Megdal as a source so the bias is evident. I do wish they'd have stuck (or stick?) to a real development with like, houses and a school and not just "bland queens mall" crap. Or hell, build a casino there. (MLB would nix that I'm sure)
  16. metsmarathon wrote: can i use him as a hitting instructor? doesn't show up on my team page. does show up on my transaction listing. odd. if you could remove him altogether, it would be muchly appreciated. thanks for fixing the things! I removed him right away. I was just making myself giggle. Maybe I should pass him around. So to reiterate: Draft on Wednesday at 8:30pm. Gonna email everyone at 8:15 to remind them. ABNS probably needs an account sitter. Anyone know someone that likes to draft?
  17. I read that the second u isn't actually in his name.
  18. metsmarathon wrote: so, my new strategy will be to abandon my team, have someone come in and cut all my players, reclaim my team, and have all my old players reinstated at 50 cents on the dollar. note, for instance, alex gordon had been salaried at $32. he was cut by cherington's puppet, reducing his salary to $16, and was reinstated at $16. his salary should be reinstated at $32, as well as for all the other players cut by cherington. this may be something you're already aware of and working on. Sorry, my mistake. just went by the cut list when I reinstated them and forgot about the cut penalty. Fixed now, think I got everyone. Those players kinda suck though. and I like saying Plouffe. I have you Mike Piazza at $31 for your trouble. no?
  19. metsmarathon wrote: jim is interested in returning. if we boot random interloper, does he get his money back (did he have to pay to usurp the team?)? i'd hate to screw him needlessly. I have no idea. I suspect he'll have to claim another abandoned team. I'll email Jim directly, since this game of telephone is ripe for errors in changes of ownership.
  20. metsmarathon wrote: did we have anyone else who wanted to get into the league? i had one other friend who expressed interest a while back. not sure if he's still interested. No one said anything here, but perhaps no one's paying attention either. Would rather someone at least one of us knows (And can make the draft so it's at least competitive) rather than random interloper.
  21. metsmarathon wrote: he didn't pay. apparently ottoneu dropped him, and freed up a team for someone to gobble up. the puppet is a random interloper. not sure if we want to or need to or really can do anything about this... Does he want to play? Can he do the 19th? I can boot the interloper (take guts, to claim a random team and then bitch about the draft time doesn't it?) edit: Worth noting that Seawolf hasn't paid either and his team expired a month ago.
  22. why can't I see history of a team? bleh, I should but @ottoneu about that to see team name history and owner history. would help. Mohawk can't do the 20th. I don't really want to move it if this is a stranger (aside: did ABNS find someone to draft for him or should we put out the word and get someone to do that?) I see no objection in this thread to the 18th, so perhaps we could go a day earlier if we need to.
  23. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: either would be ok for me but make a call before last minute stuff resuts in a divorce yes, of course. I'm married too ;-) metsmarathon wrote: wait... what just happened? who is cherington's puppet? Jay1203? who's that? I'm really bad with remember names/ids/etc. Is that one of us or did someone abandon and get claimed by a stranger?
  24. see, this will actually be the most ridiculous/fun IPP ;-) I think the Mets are probably out of it in September and he finished up some rehab appearances. about 8 IP, 9 Ks. I predict he's at least broken up with Ashley Haas by the time he pitches again.
  25. I worry a little, but not a lot, about the wildness. I still think he's going to be extremely effective and such. Where I worry more is in the analysis of how he's doing and the expectation that he'll match Harvey from last year. That's not really important from a performance standpoint, unless everyone starts asking him questions like "How are you going to improve?" after he throws 7 innings, 1 run, 4 walks, 6 Ks. I predict.. 3.33 ERA, 12-6, 185IP 165 K, 77 BB I predict 9/10 people that write about him by the end of the year will correctly use Zack instead of Zach. 0 Instagram photos with models, but references Harvey's GF twice in separate interviews. (are we doing a Harvey IPP?)
