NAME GP AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB BA OBP SLG OPS OWAR Stephen Drew 14 49 1 6 2 0 0 1 8 2 13 1 .122 .157 .163 .320 -0.6 A little still, I suspect if he'd been signed and had a full spring training he might be doing just fine.
  2. Centerfield wrote: Think about the rationale behind pitchers "policing" admiring your HR. That opposing player is admiring his HR instead of putting his head down and running around the bases. I find this behavior disrespectful. He is, after all, a professional. He should conduct himself in a professional manner. During his next at-bat, I will let him know I feel this way by throwing a baseball at his ear. This is, as we all know, the generally accepted manner in which I should make my feelings known. Also the "I'm already giving up runs, so clearly I should allow more free baserunners" bit. Who's disrespecting the game more, the guy showing emotion or the guy purposely hurting his team's chance to win?
  3. bmfc1 wrote: Perhaps, but how does Tejada help the team? I believe that Tejada is a waste of time and a cardboard cutout of Bud Harrelson would be almost as good. I don't know what Flores is and I'd like to find out what he's got. I would too. Maybe he'll hit enough in Las Vegas to deserve another shot. Ruben Tejada makes out less often than major league average and plays a roughly average SS defensively. So at the very least he keeps the line moving.
  4. bmfc1 wrote: So we get to see Tejada, who (I feel) has little talent and no future as an everyday major leaguer, play every single frigging game, hitting .230 at best, instead of someone that played SS better than anyone expected who might have a major league bat. He played SS better than expected in what, 15 games? that's hardly "oh, he can play." Also, until that 'might' have a major league bat is more than might he's hurting the team.

  6. metirish wrote: I like it, a bit of fun.....anticipating it irking the apposing team soon. Oh, I hope so.
  7. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: MFYs don't want Chris Young. They have their own underperforming RH-hitting OF issue in Soriano. I do think Young is saving his ass here, and I don't think the Mets are foolish to allow him to. I just wish David Wright had more home runs than him.
  8. Definitely don't mind the organic stuff. It's still cheesy of course, but these guys are supposed to be entertaining us and they're certainly better at that when they're getting along and being cheery and into it. I suspect most baseball players are fairly cheesy anyway. I'm sure it'll be a cheesy marketing ploy, and I only hope the team plays well enough the rest of the way to make it a good one. But I'm fine with that. They're going to market and pitch at us anyway, at least if it's born of something on the field it gives it a nice feel to it. Helps distinguish 2014 and make it memorable.
  9. okay let's dredge up the yankees thread. Tell me how awesome this game was I mostly missed for a work networking event (granted, bowling and beer so..) 2 HR for Chris Young actually gives him a higher wRC+ than Eric Young. Did he stave off eminent release? (probably, it's not like we're spoiled with options) Is a small ballpark team looking at him to maximize his diminished value? Could this be the first trade with the Yankees in a long while?
  10. by the time I remembered to remind the bowling alley to turn the Mets game on instead of ESPN it was already basically over. love it. caught a Yankees play in the bar area when I was getting a drink. Reyes made a nice play at short to get someone, 6-1 Jays at the time.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Zvon wrote: I think Sandy should cut him if that's his plan... Well, sure, but that's my point. If he was supposed to be cutting him on Thursday, he now has to move precipitously. ...and just ignore it if it isn't. I don't know about you, but if my employee got word that he was going to be fired on Thursday, and I know he knows, but I'm saying nothing to him one way or another, asking him to come to meetings and help pitch a proposal to my big clients and shit on Tuesday and Wednesday... well, that would look like an awkward and counterproductive couple of days at work. Terry got put in a bad spot if there's anything to this leak, and if the leak was indeed planned and initiated by him, that's a lousy way to play. Well, if said employee knew that there was at least a chance that big client he's pitching a proposal to might want to hire him on Thursday, and that there are 28 other competitors keeping tabs on it.. But I think it's just the opposite. Terry can be the "no truth to this Chris, just put your work in and take good AB" and then be all "They've seen enough. I fought for you" on Thursday when he's released.

  13. nah, a simple "At this time Adam Rubin is not involved in our decision making process. When we're ready to activate Juan Lagares, we will make a corresponding roster move based on the information we have at that time." will do. You don't have to give light to every rumor.
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I was wondering about that as I read that Lagares' return may be imminent. I'd much rather remove Chris Young from the roster than Kirk Nieuwenhuis. The only argument for keeping Young is his salary. And that's rarely, if ever, a good reason. That signing never made any sense to me. A guy that has power potential and decent ability. Can play CF pretty well (if you're figuring Granderson is better served in a corner) Both things the Mets needed, reasonable buy low guy. Didn't work out as of yet. these things happen. But it's not like the Mets have three good outfielders either. Lagares and Granderson. Even if Abreu continues to play well, you're not playing him everyday. And if you are playing him, you might rather have a Righty than a Lefty. (Eric doesn't hit Lefties either) Of course, Andrew Brown at this point is a better option in that role. You've already burned Nieuwenhuis' option for this year though, so it might just be prudent to drop him, no matter what rumors Rubin spreads. You can always release Chris Young next week.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: If you accept that 8-5 was the minimum acceptable outcome, well, 5-4 over the next nine will get them there. I'd really like 6-3, but I'll accept the 5-4 as long as at least two of the five are against the Braves.
  16. You know, if Peterson really DID see something that could make Zambrano better and/or he wasn't hurt, and it results in the Mets actually winning in 2006, we might even be able to forgive. Plus they were probably right about Kazmir's delivery and chances it would lead to injury, just not how long he'd be able to succeed before it happened.
  17. Edgy MD wrote: My main problem is wondering if both runners slid past the catcher and the plate in exactly the same manner due to some sort of strategic instruction, whether coming down from Goodwin, Collins, Jeffpon, or whoever --- either in deference to the new rule somehow or in deference to the culture of risk consciousness that helped launch the rule. Because I'm no contact-monger, but those slides were unsatisfying to watch, from this fan's perspective. The most dramatic time of the game, and I'm watching players playing like redshirts in a practice game. I think it's the "in deference" thing. At least to my eyes, more and more guys have slid like that over the last few years, predating this rule. And I fully support _a_ rule, and trying to weed out the rest of the machismo "take one for the team" attitude of the handful of guys that go barreling into the catcher like they don't have a head on their shoulders to concuss. But geeze, figure out how exactly it's going to work before tossing it willy nilly to the umps.

  19. Young's sac fly seemed to hang up there too, which allowed Ozuna to take more than a couple steps in and really build momentum. It looked like Nieuwenhuis left well, but didn't see any side by side shots. Perhaps if we didn't gave a way a third of the remaining game on the play before.. Wright was clearly going to be out, but that's completely irrelevant. Under the old rule Wright should've lowered his shoulder and tried to clobber the catcher, and i'm 100% on board with trying to alleviate collisions and head injuries. So when Salty CLEARLY stepped in the lane between the plate and Wright in a very distinct blocking motion, with the ball still in the air by third base, he should've been ruled in violation of the new rule. That's EXACTLY what the rule is for. Not that they enforce it accurately there either, but wouldn't he have been called for obstruction of he blocked second base like that? or first?

Was fun though, I turned it on in the car afterwards ~9 and was fun to turn on a game that had some tangible excitement. Howie (and Josh) were golden, even the stupid MLB At-Bat app continues to be spotty.

I think there are a fair amount of strippers. Now hookers? Casinos? (7 more years) Hash House A GoGos? electric chairs?
