I disagree. The deck chairs on the Titanic quote might have been a bit much, but I'm sure her attorneys would have no problem proving any number of people she's never met both said that and thought that. I don't care what people said and thought. How is the fact that the Mets don't win enough actionable? If it is, I'm filing tomorrow. OE: I see, you're saying it helps establish that she was effective at her job. OK. Maybe. It either helps establish she was effective or is an excuse for why she wasn't. I think what she's trying to establish is that her superiors actively inhibited her ability to do her job. But this feels like an HR person complaining that the company switched from PAYCHEX to ADP and it's not as good. Who really knows (well, hopefully someone that has to testify) what they discussed about her job and duties when they hired her. But generally ticket sales are separate from roster, despite what people like to think. Leigh was never supposed to go to Sandy and say "Hey, I'd like to do "so and so" promotion, can you sign someone that fits that profile?"

This case is in the Eastern District of New York, which draws a jury pool from Kings, Queens, Nassau, Suffolk and Richmond Counties. There aren't going to be a lot of jurors with neutral or favorable opinions of Jeff Wilpon in those areas. If anything, that statement detracts from her lawsuit. It seems to suggest that she DIDN'T succeed and is an argument that it was an impossible job. Might be hard to prove that the harassment was the reason she was let go, though the harassment in it of itself is enough for a lawsuit I would think. Which I think is what Edgy was getting at? That if it's a harassment lawsuit it's not really about her job performance.
  3. You know how the Mets really like to get in on current trends to prove they're hip and all that? Perhaps "Hey, this misogynist stuff is trending..." wasn't the right way? http://nypost.com/2014/09/10/former-exec-mets-fired-me-for-being-pregnant-and-single/?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=NYPTwitter&utm_medium=SocialFlow

Everyone would be second guessing why was he allowed to be out there playing hurt when the games are somewhat meaningless. What if he trips on the curb going to get his Starbucks?
  5. d'Kong76 wrote: Shutting him down for the rest of the season beats a press conference tonight with him in sling saying it's been barking all year and I tried to play through it but when I swung I heard this pop and I can barely lift my arm. We'll go for an mri to- morrow and let the good doctors see what going on in there now and hope surgery isn't necessary. Sheesh, it's like fifteen games people! well, that first probably wasn't a likely risk as he's been playing with it for a while. the timetable is probably such that he has exactly enough time to recover from surgery if rehab don't work.
  6. d'Kong76 wrote: He has struggled with the long ball, giving up eight in 32 2/3 innings. Whoa Whoa Wee Wah! Luckily, that'll be better for him next year with the walls coming in.
  7. batmagadanleadoff wrote: And if you don't sign him you're even farther from contention You think it matters between finishing 15 or 20 games out? And between the two, I'd prefer a 20 games out finish. (Draft pick)batmagadanleadoff wrote: And if you don't sign him you're even farther from contention yes. When teams try to go from 70 wins to contention it's proclaimed to be too big a jump. 77 to contention is more believable. Also, already having one more solid player generally means you're closer. fuck a pick that may or may not help in 2020. The savings of already having David Wright versus having to pay to acquire that production more than makes up for the value added by moving up 5 spots in the draft order.
  8. And if you don't sign him you're even farther from contention, both in the past few seasons and likely the window to become competitive again. The Mets only need next year to make the playoffs is offense and they have a top-flight 3Bman under contract. I'm glad for that.

Or you could spend $20M of your $80M+ allowance on one player. That'll leave you with about $60M to assemble the rest of the 24 guys on the roster. Or you could stop projecting Mets payroll like anyone has any clue what it's going to be.

Yeah, in retrospect, the time to shut Wright down is not September 9. More like August 9 or July 9. But they may have sold a few extra tickets in those two months. I doubt they sold a few extra tickets. I mean, it's not like Wright was having a powerhouse year anyway. He's played through this injury pretty much all year. Sure, it didn't heal but it's not like it was eminently going to explode. That's just not really how baseball teams generally operate. You could shut down everyone for every little nick and bruise, but then you'd have no players.

Didn't like the 4th one too much, seemed to have a anti-Puig bias. but the "That was pathetic" soundbyte is worthwhile. Wish I was home. That disgusted Kershaw ball-flip is gif worthy (I bet it's out there) I need to listen to Scully more.
  14. loljeter http://deadspin.com/11-sports-gifs-that-will-restore-your-faith-in-humanity-1632299104 I almost scrolled past. that's gold. GOLD.

  16. Edgy MD wrote: Yeah, that three-games-in-six accusation still doesn't hold up. Come on. Cut the unfounded sarcasm. You're the positive guy. Sarcasm is always founded. anyway, Bobby Abreu played in 67 games and got 142 PA. OPS .663 Kirk Nieuwenhuis has played in 50 games, for 102 PA. OPS .890. Only Familia and Carlyle have a higher number.
  17. Edgy MD wrote: I guess that's supposed to be blaming the Mets --- again --- for that entirely unfounded notion that they somehow hurt the team by disproportionately starting Abreu. But come on, you had to make up numbers that entirely didn't exist then. Why poison another thread and return to that thesis now? Why, why, why? Goodness is happening. This was a completely tongue in cheek remark in regards to whoever brought up Abreu's promotion this weekend. And shockingly, I was right about Abreu this summer.

What Mariano did is fine because its Mariano, he said. But I dont know if Im going to go through all that. 20. Quirk that I always find interesting. Orioles will be in NY from May 5th through May 10th to play 6 games. (first 2 at Citi)
  21. home and home against the Blue Jays, but M-Th makes it harder to do (plus I'd have to look up the international travel with an infant laws). 2 and 2 against the Orioles, spread out. 3 home Sox, 3 away Rays. Lots of 4 game series, Cubs, Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, etc.
  22. I mean, 15 or so innings is mostly irrelevant as a ridiculously small sample size (Which makes relievers so hard to judge as is) you could find 15 innings where _anyone_ sucked I imagine.
  23. Nymr83 wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: The irony this brings up is, of course, Armando Benitez who somehow managed to become the most hated man in Met-dom even though, until his final disastrous half-season in Queens, I'd be willing to bet that he never had a stretch as bad as the one Mejia's currently right in the middle of. He could have ONE game like today's (one where he didn't even lose the lead) on the her;s of a dozen straight clean ones and peeps would be calling for his head. as of now, nobody really has any reason to remember anything Mejia has done wrong because the Mets suck. Benitez on the other hand managed to blow games in big situations, despite pitching well most of the time. this is just bad luck, but it leaves a bad impression starting 2000 through 5/6/00 17 G, 17 IP, 13 H, 13 ER, 11 BB, 5 HR, 6.88 ERA
  24. I mean, you don't yank your starter when he gets into trouble in the third inning. If you don't think the guy can get the job done, don't bring him in. Not a lot of benefit to second guessing your players three batters in.
  25. A reporter dared to forget to silence her cellphone during the Jeter [crossout:12fjzbcg]train[/crossout:12fjzbcg]..press conference so of course he took it and answered it and hung up on her husband.
