Are you always this obtuse, or just purposely being so? He wants to know the same thing I want to know. Why weren't they more transparent about this? I don't know about you, but I have a healthy dose of skepticism about everything the Mets do, because the Wilpons have hardly done anything to gain our trust. No, he's asking why they didn't do something about it. Are the Mets now required to put out a press release for every doctor visit of their players? Maybe they give the email addy for their media listserve (and the bloggers please) directly to the doctor to CC when he gets back to them with results.
  2. Harvey's bravado is really going to add a fun element to this season.

  4. if someone sues Aramark and Citi Field for watering down the taps, is MLB obligated to come in and make sure they're not scamming customers? The Oakland Raiders were sued by the cheerleaders for underpaying them, among other accusations. Did the NFL come in and investigate? Did they check the other employees? Maybe they're skimping on the line cooks in the concession stands too.

Should fans trust the Mets to believe that their personnel decisions regarding their budding pitchers are not mainly driven by salary concerns? Montero's been up already. They could have signed any number of major league minimum veteran guys for depth to get 3 starts out of them in April.
  6. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Wheeler's injury could plausibly cause the Mets other domino effect problems, besides his lost innings. This setback likely requires the Mets to carry Gee's salary, something that many suspect was not in the Mets plans. If the Mets were planning on dumping Gee's salary, they might no longer be able to do so. If the Mets are as financially strapped as their harshest critics and biggest skeptics believe they are, carrying Gee's salary might impinge on their "supposed" plans to increase the payroll depending on their W-L record later on in the season. Again, this all depends on how broke the Mets are, and how much wiggle room they truly have with respect to their payroll, or as Sandy likes to say: how much "payroll flexibility" they truly have. except they have Syndergaard, Montero, Matz, etc. If they desperately needed to dump Gee he'd be gone already.
  7. I'm still unsure why you think it's MLBs job to stick it's nose into the Mets office workplace and it's lawsuits. Never mind that Leigh can't actually talk to MLB about it.
  8. I don't get too worked up about rounds. If you have a 3B hole and think he's worth it, try to grab him. I guess the goal would be to make sure you could keep him if he's really gold, so no earlier than the 6th round to guarantee that extra year if he's a top guy. 11th to make it two years. (11+1/2 is 6th round keeper, 6+1/2 is 4th round keeper It really depends on how valuable you think he'll be. Average round on Yahoo is 12.7. That's 17th of 3B (including behind Daniel Murphy) I'd probably take him 8-11 depending how I was happy filling out other positions to that point if you want him.
  9. These games always make me nostalgic. Last time I was at Spring Training we were in Fort Myers for Mets vs. Red Sox on 3/17 (I had a green Shock Top) and drove cross-state (Got stuck behind an orange truck for a bit) to PSL and saw Lucas Duda and others at Duffy's that night and Kai Gronauer (wearing the green cap) at Vine and Barley.

He won't/shouldn't be ready for 2016. Probably more like the ASB but because the season will be ongoing there will be more pressure to 'rush' him back though there is some suggestion that a longer recovery period is much better.

Well sure. "That's a tear, you should fix it." Tanaka, for one, disagreed. Harvey gave it a few weeks before deciding. Don't both Niese and Gee have small tears? You call a dermatologist about a red spot and he's gonna tell you to put cream on it. You go to the doctor with the sniffles and you'll probably get some antibiotics, you show up pregnant they're gonna suggest you deliver the..wait, maybe that last one's different.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: I assume that they'll launch the Gee rocket and start the countdown on Viking I. Sandy's restraint on Gee market looking wise, I guess. yeah. I suspect both A. He suspected someone would get hurt. (safe bet) and B. never got an offer he really liked. I also think having Thor or Matz or everyone pitching well in the minors doesn't have the same sort of desperation for Sandy that having 6 guys in the offseason does. It keeps other teams calling though. I'm not sure you have to go right to Syndergaard either. In fact I'm pretty sure of it. A few starts in April for Gee is certainly fine, or even Montero who's already been up.
  13. Wheeler got the MRI in...January? So they really don't think there's anything more to see.
  14. He's got a sister named Gretel that's pretty good though.
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The Daily News has a different spin: Kristie Ackert wrote: As for the suggestion that the limited payroll prevented him from signing Robinson Cano last winter, Alderson laughed and called the meeting with the second baseman's representatives an "entertaining diversion." Anyway, I'm glad the Mets didn't sign Cano to a ten-year $24 million contract that runs until Cano is 41 years old. I assume that's what Sandy means by 'strategic' as in it's 'strategic' not to be paying 41 year old players a bazillion dollars.

  18. nobody broke. one day closer to the season. so it was a good day.

Will Ferrell Jose Oquendo-ing out west isn't quite as weird as this. watched 20 minutes at the beginning during lunch. seemed okay, didn't see Alexa. what happened to the third chick of Branden/Alexa trio?
  20. supposedly David Wright was heavily involved in making that happen.

  22. mostly worthless post in teh patriotpost too as long as we're bringing it up. https://patriotpost.us/posts/33739 Professional baseball player Daniel Murphy is a second baseman for the New York Mets. When the League appointed his teammate (and open homosexual) Billy Bean as its ambassador of inclusion, writes Family Research Council president Tony Perkins, Murphy wasnt about to sit on the sidelines.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: So I guess the setup and staffing are cost-prohibitive and the ratings back home don't make it worthwhile. Lot of folks want their Harvey visuals today. seems that way. I think "lots of folks" might be stretching it. But a lot of these people are the ones that also wish they'd televise the minor league games on the backfields via a streaming cam. The Mets, generally, televise every home spring game with the exception of the occasional preemption for amateur hoops around my birthday.
  24. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Rubin of all people declared this a non-story, saying Fred does this kind of crap every year. I guess the surprise is he's about; I suspected he was in poor health given the lower profile. Hell, even I've seen him around and who am I? It's really a non-story, but you get a lot of those in Spring Training (And even during the season too). "Here's something to talk about that's not really very meaningful" and obviously any mention of Wilpon in any capacity immediately leads to other topics almost pavlovianly.
  25. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Yeah, but all the same I continue to not get the Ruben thing. This team needs its reserve shortstop to be a LH/switch hitting, base-stealing, versatile, bunting, glove-y type. Rubie isn't any of those things. Ruben plays the position well, plays 2B, gets on base more than the league average. It'd be nice if he hit lefty, it's one of the reasons I don't favor Campbell for the CI job, especially because Flores is hardly a lock and if you're going to sit him games it'd be nice to do it for platoon splits instead of your own pitcher's splits. But eh on the SB and bunting. I'll take the better player over the guy that needs to manufacture runs. Tejada's not fast, but it's not lumbering either, he's not going to clog the bases and he can probably score from first if he pinch-walks and Lagares or Murphy drives a double.
