Ohhhh, we didn't even get to talk about this. Middle of the 8th inning yesterday: PA starts playing some Billy Joel as the scorboard reads "Piano Man Sing-Along." No shit. That is what they are trying to push this year. I mean, it's better than "Sweet Caroline" (marginally), but... If they mix it up, I'm okay with a between innings song at that point. But Piano Man isn't better than Sweet Caroline and I doubt the Mets are the first to play it, just like the Red Sox weren't the first to use Sweet Caroline. Might not be a thing. one game small sample right now. Maybe something they just did. But those things are always corny. Like the Paul Blart trivia thing. Yeah, someone paid MLB to heavily promote that movie. Happens all the time. I mean, don't get me started on Budweiser and the clips from their ad mocking craft beer drinkers. I DID enjoy the silly pictionary bit though. And that they literally gave someone a copy of a 15sec Cuddyer drawing of Bacon and Eggs is just the right level of whimsy to me.

People that only come out to that game. You see it by the way they're not quite familiar with the flow of the stadium and concourses (It was the same at Shea) or where the lines are and how there are so many more clearly old Mets shirts and jerseys. Like they bought one 20 years ago and it's just what they wear to Opening Day.

Only the idiotic roll-call. They should be ashamed. It's not "their thing;" it's something the idiot Yankee fans do and should be left at that stadium. The beer-throwing moron was in the "clubhouse," the group seating area behind the right field fence. I only heard a Daniel Murphy 'roll call' you always here this sorta thing crop up once in a while. It's not so much a the7line thing as much as the type of fan that sorta thing attracts. It did sound like someone told them to cut it out? Or did they go on and I just didn't hear them from 504? Fun game. Good seeing people again. [fimg=500]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LZ_Jjb0LUZQ/VSvgHBNp-sI/AAAAAAABWgA/U3Y9ar4VBW8/w1598-h899-no/20150413_112604.jpg[/fimg] Place was packed. I'm looking forward to a good season and all, but there's something to be said for smaller lines and everyone that's there generally knowing what they want and what to order and where to go. Beer selection got a nice bump. [fimg=900]https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/--n5XoeVopaQ/VSxMs-grlnI/AAAAAAABWxw/g1ZF_IMQTlI/w1597-h494-no/20150413_151727.jpg[/fimg]

Ceetar will be located in section 504 row 11, outfield side. You may spot him around the tailgate scene before the game.

  10. only one way to find out. Head in and see if they're serving Brooklyn Pennant Ale of course.
  11. apparently Jon Sterling doesn't know the capacity of Yankee Stadium.(I don't know if the Yankees declared it a sellout, but neither yesterday nor Opening Day reached capacity) I was listening to some of yesterday since I made the foolish choice to time my trip to the Botanical Gardens for 1pm. oops. They don't look or sound good at all, for sure. It does surprise me a little, the drop off for McCann, Ellsbury, even Beltran, has been pretty steep. I'm sure there's a Yankee blog or two somewhere lambasting them for letting Cano go.
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: WOW, Gary and Ron reporting that Mejia is also banned from the post season should the Mets make it That doesn't make sense to me. The penalties are what they are, they're dictated by the CBA and I don't see where it would apply to any post-season play which would occur a full half-season after the time has run out. The Giants, three years ago, chose not to put Melky Cabrera on their active roster for the playoffs but that was their choice, not a league dictate. IOW, not being selected is not the same thing as being banned. apparently they 'snuck' it into the CBA. bs to me. (especially since I suspect MLB sometimes did/does massage the timing of this stuff) Postseason games should be just 'games' in terms of suspension. When the Mets sweep through the postseason, Mejia will be suspended 91 games. If they don't make it, 80. The booth was talking about masking agent and perhaps strides in detection but I didn't hear enough to add much here. Did anyone else hear that? I think they said 4 guys busted for this drug in the last few weeks. (haven't fact checked this) Which means either Jenrry was the suspension that marked the trend and they're all going to stop, or they've all stopped (read: switched) using it and it's taking time to filter from their systems. Poor luck. I hope the other Mets taking stuff have better masking agents.

  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: We used our Kids Klub vouchers to get Sunday games of May 17, May 31 and June 14. Seats available for these games not nearly as good as the ones we got last season, I'm not sure if that's a function of better overall sales or just worse Kids Klub availability, but I'm breaking all my rules and going into the outfield for most of these. I intend to augment this schedule with the Lunchie Plan of buying random value-tier weeknight games at the window when the weather is nice. Also got Mets-Red Sox tickets in August: Those are stupid expensive already as Fred clearly would prefer Red Sawx Nation to come on down to New York town. Haven't redeemed my Kids Club vouchers yet myself. The 'gotta use all 10' thing is getting me. Mostly because I don't know how Sophie will handle games in general. So do i pick 5 Sat/Sun games with the expectation she'll be fine, or picks games where the grandparents can baby sit and/or single week-day games for just me?
  18. Edgy MD wrote: I'm glad they're not benching Duda outright against lefties, but here's hoping Mayberry makes him fight to stay in the lineup against them. I imagine Mayberry starts against three out of four lefties right now, taking two of those games from Duda and one from Granderson. But pretty soon they may be looking for at-bats for Campbell too. not really sure about Campbell, but I would guess we'll see Aprilberry either today or tomorrow, just in a 'let's get him in there' type way.
  19. This was by design. Starting this season, for now at least, the Nationals will be playing slow, soft rock songs during the visiting teams batting practice. If facing the Nationals rotation was not difficult and daunting enough, they are trying to psyche out their opponents, at least in some small way. Because the Mets were in town for the first series of the season, they served as guinea pigs. Over three games, they heard the Carpenters, Elton John, Sarah McLachlan, Sinead OConnor, R.E.M. and Kansas (Dust in the Wind). http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/10/sports/baseball/nationals-play-dj-and-try-to-make-mets-feel-like-dust-in-the-wind.html?partner=rss&emc=rss

  23. Zvon wrote: Cheeeeze, look what Uggla found. I like what Grandy's doing at the top, but I still have a problem with how they are handling Lags. And Flores in the 9th slot, when they do that. At least put Lags there and give him the bullshit line that we are going with two lead off guys. got no problems with the lineup. When/If Flores learns to hit, we can revisit moving him up.

Has this skill become more difficult in recent years? if you consider that pitching has gotten better, yeah, probably. But it's also that the NL treats the pitcher's spot like an automatic out and not part of their job. Time for the DH. puuuuuuulease. I disagree w/that. Certainly seems like it. They do put in some token work, some of them more than others, but do you think Dillon Gee is watching tape of Julio Teheran?
