  1. Frank Viola should get some sort of award.

There are some that are and always have been explicitly part of the criteria that people are asked to vote on. Boo on age prejudice. The BBWAA has provided no shortage of controversies in the micro. In the macro, they almost always get the right men. it's not age prejudice, trust me. Statistics are not opinions, they're facts, and many of these older guys are on record against them, or on record stating they're voting for arbitrary personal reasons. And I KNOW a few of the younger guys (who can't vote yet). I don't trust their opinion more because I'm a fan/friends/agree with them, but because they're more apt to take a logical, fact-based approach. I can't know for certain obviously, as I barely paid attention to the charade last voting cycle since it didn't include Barry Bonds and therefore can't be taken seriously, but of the votes I do know about votes of NAY for Bonds, Bagwell, Piazza, etc are going to be not cast this time which likely means a higher percentage.
  3. Centerfield wrote: Isn't he under Mets control? Why cut a guy if you can get something of value back for him? I mean, I get it if you don't want the guy to pitch for the team again, but it's better to get some value rather than release him outright no? arb eligible. Meaning he's a non-tender candidate. I'm not really sure how that works with him suspended through July of next year. I guess you could offer him major league minimum which would prorate to peanuts just to have him around. Otherwise he's stuck hoping someone else does, not sure how the suspension works if he's not in a system. He's young enough that if he was serious about it he could to go Japan or Australia or independent ball and pitch a "I'm clean!" enough that someone will eventually give him a flyer and then he'll get a few games in before testing positive for the SAME DAMN SUBSTANCE a third time.
  4. Fire whoever told you that whatever extra stuff you took would mask the drug this time.
  5. good sign. Feels like the older guys were more likely to vote along ignorant morality guidelines.

Edgy MD wrote: Honestly, I'm looking at my back-of-the-envelope math and concerned I got it wrong. I may re-cacluate this evening. 3.53 is the R/27 I got for the Mets. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/2015-batting.shtml 2667 outs. / 27 = 98.77777777777777777 349 runs / 98.777777777777 = 3.53 You might be underestimating but chances are the rankings roughly the same.
  7. Edgy MD wrote: Not only am I not reading any news of who gets sent off in favor of Clippard, I haven't actually seen any notes indicating Clippard being activated, so maybe he won't be available for tonight's game. supposedly Niese is supposed to be activated off Paternity too.
  8. Granderson Tejada Murphy Duda Uribe Conforto Nieuwenhuis Plawecki Thor
  9. Centerfield wrote: I have no idea who Casey Meisner is so I can't judge this trade. I just read recently that Jacob deGrom was offered to Boston for Kelly Shoppach. This leads me to believe no one in baseball can really spot a good prospect. not quite, the Red Sox ASKED for deGrom and Alderson said no.
  10. dgwphotography wrote: Rubin has been posting images from Binghamton tonight. I guess he doesn't believe in days off. you don't get jobs in baseball with days off.
  11. TransMonk wrote: Yeah...I consider Wheeler part of the Mets plan going forward. If Wheeler can fully recover from TJ, I salivate thinking of being able to start a young flamethrower that can hit 94 MPH or more in every single game (barring injury, regression, YYYBBB). Add Familia to the back end (along with Parnell and Mejia if they continue to improve and be effective) and HOLY MOLY it would be like hitting the gas on every opposing team and very rarely taking the foot off. The Mets already throw harder than every team in baseball, by a wide margin, and that's including Bartolo Colon!
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Wow. This got some of the most vicious reviews I've seen in a while. people turned on Adam Sandler pretty hard it feels like. This intrigued me, probably for nostalgia. Actually any good?
  13. you pretty much gotta lean on Mejia heavily down the stretch right? completely burn him out?
  14. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Is it me, or does it seem like teams are using longer and longer rehab periods for guys on the DL? Is seems like there used to be a game or two in the minors, then back in the majors. I read this week that the team wants Travis to get 20 to 25 ABs before coming back. That's four or five games, seemingly adding about a week to his already long DL stint. well, that was the MO with Travis last time too. I think it's specific to his age and position in his case. I remember Wright rushing through like 2 rehab games a couple of years ago. There's probably something to be said for getting your timing down against lesser pitchers.
  15. Peeking at this list: 64 Mets have homered at Citi Field. d'Arnaud with 9 is looking to join the top 10.
  16. I think I'm up to a month or two now.
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Same fans are just as prone to saying that he was clearly brought up too late if he performs. Hindsight is the superpower of all mook fans. bah, Adam Rubin got out in front of that one, proclaiming a scout said it as recently as a month ago. Looking good so far though. Hope it continues.

  19. What do you think, keep going? 1002 tomorrow.
  20. Frayed Knot wrote: Someone today was talking about d'Arnaud maybe by as early as the middle of next week. Between him & Johnson & Uribe this should be a better offense as we enter August. And, who knows, maybe Dabid shows up later in the month. Doesn't necessarily mean it'll be a Good offense, but it should be a better one. Now all we have to do is put out an APB for Lucas Duda and we might be in business. put the APB out for Lagares too, though he might always have been missing. But if he's the only one with a sub .300 OBP we should be alright. Of course, Conforto still up in the air, but you've got lots of moving parts and spot starts there too.
  21. G-Fafif wrote: BTW, good for TC benching useless righties vs LHP Thomas. Enough matchups for Mayberry, Campbell. I'm okay with Mayberry getting some spot starts if/when he starts swinging a hot bat. anyway, what's up with Niese? wife in labor or not? I mean, it's 4:30, he's not getting home until like midnight if he pitches..
  22. Mets Willets Point wrote: Wow, that's a big difference! Cubs Clayton Richard was the 2000th Cub. (they're at 2002 now) Anyone that didn't see my tweet want to guess on #1000? How about the year?
  23. Mets Willets Point wrote: Does anyone know how to do an Astro count (including Colt 45s)? Are they ahead of us? Behind? About the same? It would be interesting to compare. 847 according to baseball reference.
  24. they don't need a Carlos Beltran, a solid infielder would do the trick. thinking a guy ~120 wRC+. Flores to the bench. If we have no faith in Mayberry add in another versatile platoon type OF guy to spell Conforto if he's not hitting that well. Or just one to send him back down for more seasoning. Two above average hitters would make a world of difference. Especially with d'Arnaud back.
  25. If the Mets sign an outfield one of Nieuwenhuis or Conforto is probably going down/away.
