  1. =metsmarathon post_id=102248 time=1659629167 user_id=83] or they look at mccann's 0.200 babip for the season and think, yeah, that should get better without costing us a player.
  2. Contreras had has many walks and home runs as the Mets catchers in July too, despite a .208 babip. I'd hope the Mets aren't stupid enough to overvalue the 85 PA of July over the total of the 2676 previous ones that are IMMENSELY better. That was the true talent level of the Mets catchers, and McCann ain't much better. They ultimately didn't trade him so maybe what they were asking for was ridiculous, but it was a pretty poor deadline, again, by the Mets, and sometimes that's your own fault, not all the other teams, but I'm sure Sandy or Eppler will get up there and trot out the usual "We were surprised at the asking prices" line.
  3. There were obvious solutions out there that would make the Mets better, shore up weak points, shore against injury or fatigue. They opted to make a few low-leverage moves around the edges. But it's a business. This comes up every year, for most teams. The difference between the Mets making the NLCS and losing and winning the World Series are ASTRONOMICAL to fans, but negligible for ownership and even front offices. Big five game series starts tonight, might be the last really big series until the playoffs. They're still a good team with a good chance, and there's pretty much nothing we can do about it now.
  4. =Gwreck post_id=102215 time=1659582395 user_id=56] Can barely keep them straight, there are so many. At least this guy has demonstrated normal professional judgment?
  5. =Gwreck post_id=102208 time=1659575235 user_id=56] Grumble under breath that Eppler was willing to make a stupid trade of a great prospect in 2021 when Mets didn't have a great chance, but now was gunshy about doing so.
  6. he's in the hall in my book, so *shrug*
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Do we know if the QO is going to be a thing this year? As I recall, they kicked that can down the road in order to come to a CBA that would allow the season to start. If the players agree to an international draft, the QO system will be eliminated. I don't recall if there was a drop-dead date by which that had to happen. yes, and it passed. QOs are a thing.
  8. =roger_that post_id=102113 time=1659538424 user_id=128] Brett Phillips was recently DFA's by the Rays. I think the Orioles picked him up. Maybe we should have? He's a good player, especially at that price.
  9. He's walking much less. He's also striking out less, but that's because he's making less contact, as a result of swinging at more pitches, particularly out of the zone. (21.2% versus his career average of 17.2) He's making way more contact, which feels like it's a red herring. If he was missing some of those out of zone pitches maybe he'd stop swinging at them. It's not that he's not hitting the ball hard, because he's squaring up just as many balls, if not more, than average. But he's traded some walks on pitches outside for softer contact grounders. His pull numbers are down in favor of more groundballs straight/oppo. Is this a "use all fields" strategy? If it is, it's a good example of how trading just walloping pitches to the pull side for trying to beat the shift doesn't often work out. Though they're actually shifting Nimmo much less this year, probably because he did much better last year when they shifted on him. He went from elite walk skills to middling this year. Though he bumped up on the power numbers, Barrels, exit velocity, etc. fwiw, this might fit into the Mets lineup a little bit better, as they're a little lacking in power, so if Nimmo is selling out some OBP for turning a few more hits into homers, perhaps that's worthwhile. but most importantly..last year he LED MLB in average HR Trot at 18.29 seconds , and he's fallen to second this year with 19.12. (There are actually 5 people ahead of him, but I don't think they all 'qualify'. Sam Haggerty, Steven Kwan, Brett Phillips, Tyler O'Neill, and Nick Solak). Vogelbach is slowest on the team at 26.9. Alex Verdugo of Boston is the slowest, 29.7. Good time to get another beer after he hits one.
  10. The OnlyFan? she left when she found out about Soto.
  11. numbers look good, should be a solid add at least. Velocity down this year, but maybe that's part of his extra effectiveness. Probably needed more than this, but it helps at least.
  12. =nymr83 post_id=101952 time=1659476893 user_id=54] How is Dom Smith still a Met? between Vogelbauch and Ruf (and even Naquin) where is the role for him outside of Syracuse?
  13. sure, he can murder lefties/sinkers pretty well, and that's a good skillset to have. But that's only marginally better than what you had in Davis AND you gave up prospects for him and tepidly committed to him for next year too.
  14. J.D. Davis is better than Darren Ruf.
  15. still waiting on Eric Hosmer's approval of the trade actually. Maybe the Mets can still swoop in and three-way deal this thing.
  16. Most of the Washington Nationals too.

  18. =smg58 post_id=101794 time=1659399489 user_id=62] The Braves just tied up Austin Riley for 10 and 215. Because that's what teams who don't wish to be laughing stocks do.
  19. I've seen scores of posts in this very forum begging the Mets to wear the hats of an organization that kills black people, harasses homeless people, and pickets funerals, so spare me "time and place". How dare I use an negative adjective for an public official who recently publicly celebrated his fascist brutalization of homeless people. Unfortunately, he WOULD need to be involved in a Soto-led Mets World Series parade. But maybe they should just get a few relievers, anyone, do something productive.
  20. The Mets really need a reliever, if not two, though seems like Trivino is mostly a throw-in. Two years of Montas for only one top-100 guy might actually be a steal.
  21. =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=101751 time=1659385333 user_id=119] =Ceetar post_id=101746 time=1659384062 user_id=102] And then you get Cohen to loosen the purse strings and hand them to Soto and ask that pig Adams to reserve the canyon of heroes for late October.
  22. hell, there are whole Mets drafts that won't put up as much value as Juan Soto will these next 2+ years, and that's without the added benefit of a title.
  23. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Yes, they all suck. Not one prospect has ever become a quality major leaguer. Name one! I dare you! there's a non-zero chance that EVERY SINGLE PROSPECT currently in the minor leagues won't be as good as Juan Soto. Screw "quality major leaguer" You can fill a roster with quality major leaguers and be boring and bounce out of the first round of the playoffs. OR you can have a guy who looks to be one of the best hitters to ever play the game. They don't keep talking about Ted Williams for nothing. He was right to turn down the contract from the Nationals because it was an insult. Hell, if you can convince like, Pittsburgh to make a comparable package and then promise them your guys plus another throw-in, you have them make the trade in proxy if the Nationals don't want to trade him to you. And then you get Cohen to loosen the purse strings and hand them to Soto and ask that pig Adams to reserve the canyon of heroes for late October.
  24. I believe we were ever in the Soto 'contest' as much as I believe we've now dropped out of it, but.. if you can get Soto, you do it. fuck prospects. they all suck. Soto might be the difference between a ring and no ring in the next three postseasons.
  25. maybe? in the way that like, AA is the third highest level of baseball. https://i.imgur.com/SEzavJU.png>
