  4. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: The draft aburptly paused after Schoop was bought, even though lots of us still had shopping to do. It actually said PAUSED. Didn't re-start. oh, I'd already clicked off at that point. Looks like it was 3 hours after our slot..perhaps we got bumped from the server or something? I didn't know that was going to happen or I wouldn't have stopped paying attention. Guess you'll have to fill out the fringes if you want via the waiver wire. I'm not sure what else we can do. Yes, they could certainly use more dedicated programmers and attention.

  6. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: So what happened? Did the draft just end on schedule? Looks like folks are treating the field like free agents at this point, will join in. waiver auctions are now a go.
  7. I cannot not confirm my own existence, but I HAVE met a whopping 4 cranepoolers who maybe can. wait, 5. Youcan click on the team name and the owner should give it away Snukes is @saltygary on Twitter, not a cranepooler.
  8. metsmarathon wrote: can i use him as a hitting instructor? doesn't show up on my team page. does show up on my transaction listing. odd. if you could remove him altogether, it would be muchly appreciated. thanks for fixing the things! I removed him right away. I was just making myself giggle. Maybe I should pass him around. So to reiterate: Draft on Wednesday at 8:30pm. Gonna email everyone at 8:15 to remind them. ABNS probably needs an account sitter. Anyone know someone that likes to draft?
  9. metsmarathon wrote: so, my new strategy will be to abandon my team, have someone come in and cut all my players, reclaim my team, and have all my old players reinstated at 50 cents on the dollar. note, for instance, alex gordon had been salaried at $32. he was cut by cherington's puppet, reducing his salary to $16, and was reinstated at $16. his salary should be reinstated at $32, as well as for all the other players cut by cherington. this may be something you're already aware of and working on. Sorry, my mistake. just went by the cut list when I reinstated them and forgot about the cut penalty. Fixed now, think I got everyone. Those players kinda suck though. and I like saying Plouffe. I have you Mike Piazza at $31 for your trouble. no?
  10. metsmarathon wrote: jim is interested in returning. if we boot random interloper, does he get his money back (did he have to pay to usurp the team?)? i'd hate to screw him needlessly. I have no idea. I suspect he'll have to claim another abandoned team. I'll email Jim directly, since this game of telephone is ripe for errors in changes of ownership.
  11. metsmarathon wrote: did we have anyone else who wanted to get into the league? i had one other friend who expressed interest a while back. not sure if he's still interested. No one said anything here, but perhaps no one's paying attention either. Would rather someone at least one of us knows (And can make the draft so it's at least competitive) rather than random interloper.
  12. metsmarathon wrote: he didn't pay. apparently ottoneu dropped him, and freed up a team for someone to gobble up. the puppet is a random interloper. not sure if we want to or need to or really can do anything about this... Does he want to play? Can he do the 19th? I can boot the interloper (take guts, to claim a random team and then bitch about the draft time doesn't it?) edit: Worth noting that Seawolf hasn't paid either and his team expired a month ago.
  13. why can't I see history of a team? bleh, I should but @ottoneu about that to see team name history and owner history. would help. Mohawk can't do the 20th. I don't really want to move it if this is a stranger (aside: did ABNS find someone to draft for him or should we put out the word and get someone to do that?) I see no objection in this thread to the 18th, so perhaps we could go a day earlier if we need to.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: either would be ok for me but make a call before last minute stuff resuts in a divorce yes, of course. I'm married too ;-) metsmarathon wrote: wait... what just happened? who is cherington's puppet? Jay1203? who's that? I'm really bad with remember names/ids/etc. Is that one of us or did someone abandon and get claimed by a stranger?
  15. I heard Adam Dunn was in this.
  16. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Have we back at the point where a guy can report to spring training bigger and stronger than before without us having to wonder what might be in his urine? No. I just hope he's not picking the clinics that A-Rod picks.
  17. G-Fafif wrote: Whereas Rubin reports Nimmo added weight. Or something. Don't tell Chass. Definitely stronger. Spent winter at IMG Academy in FL So he's now an HTML tag?
  18. TransMonk wrote: On a side note, I also rank movies based on whether they are on commercial stations or commercial-free stations. I'll even veto some of the "anytime" movies if I have to sit through commercials and edits. yeah, if it's on a commercial station and I leave it on I'm gone by the first commercial or it's just background noise. My wife does this and it drives me crazy, especially when it's a movie we have on DVD somewhere.
  19. 2006 - "The Departed" 2005 - "Crash" 2003 - "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" 2001 - "A Beautiful Mind" 2000 - "Gladiator" 1997 - "Titanic" 1995 - "Braveheart" 1994 - "Forrest Gump" 1991 - "The Silence of the Lambs" 1976 - "Rocky" 1975 - "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" 1974 - "The Godfather Part II" 1972 - "The Godfather" 1939 - "Gone with the Wind" seen 13. Would definitely watch The Godfathers, Silence of the Lambs, Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, LotR again. Would definitely avoid Gone With The Wind and Titanic.
  20. Vic Sage wrote: But underlying all these considerations is not public interest; it's private profit. You'll have to pay more than you want for your entertainment, because they know you will. It's our drug. I want my... i want my ... i want my MTV.... Pretty much. see also: Baseball ticket prices. It's definitely a transition period, I have no doubt they'll eventually be a simpler system than there is now, I'm just hoping there's something we can do as consumers to push them in a direction that's better for us in the long run. Because as much as "it's our drug" there are a lot of other drugs out there. HBO and Showtime are competing to some extent, but all of HBO's drug-takers are potential (or current) Showtime druggies as well, whereas the ones the competition drives to take a different drug, say Nintendo's, are less likely to come back and buy your drug.
  21. See, I DO find everything I want in one place, I just don't pay for it. It's not that one over-arcing conglomerate is better, but that the idea that I would, or should, pay for one subscription to get Universal movies and one subscription to get Paramount and one..that's ridiculous. These companies ARE NOT competing with each other. They exist in a "rising tide raises all ships" environment. It's not like anyone chooses a movie based on the studio. That these companies in the middle of the artist and the consumer have all the power is the problem, and perhaps the solution is to throw it to Google/Apple/Amazon/NetFlix and let the films (and tv shows) go directly up on sites where you buy them directly. Get rid of this BS exclusivity stuff. When I say sell to Google, what I mean is I want the discussion about what to sell to be with the consumer, with me. I want NetFlix to base it on what I'm watching, what I want to watch. Right now it feels like the discussion is between NetFlix and the studios about what they think they can sell us. Because where we're going now is plenty scary. These film companies trying to keep control of the market and tell NetFlix how much it's going to cost, which then NetFlix adjusts the price to tell us what we can watch, while Comcast tells us to pony up more money if you actually want to have the internet connection to watch it while the cellphone companies strip data-allowances so that you have to give them more money if you want to watch it on a tablet or phone.
  22. RealityChuck wrote: The problem with Netflix (and Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus and HBO Online and everything else) is the fragmentation of the market. Film producers sell streaming rights to the highest bidder (if they're willing to sell them at all) and the highest bidder also insists on exclusive rights. Thus streaming films don't come from multiple sources, and no one source has everything. Each service has plenty of good things to watch, but no one will have everything you want to see. Yeah, this is the main problem. Everyone wants a piece of the action. There are problems like this in a lot of industries. Perhaps it'll take something like NetFlix getting bought by Google and having the wealth to just buy enough that everyone else is forced to go through them. In the meantime, the consumer is stuck with struggling to figure out the best option, which is never good.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: I've found very little that's NOT available through NetFlix -- the 1989 British Politics & Sex movie SCANDAL, which I'd like to re-see, is one, but I can't think of many others where I've been shut down via them. What flicks, or type of flicks, are you not finding that prompts the "outrageously inadequate" comment? i'm talking about the stream only. I mean, almost any movie you'd want to see is unavailable, while lots of pure shit on a stick is at your fingertipts. the whole dvd by mail thing sorta kills the excitement of being able to walk into the place and find what I want, and I think it might cost more too. Yeah, I find the streaming selection somewhat lacking. For a while I was getting the DVDs in the mail and burning them (like, burn, send back the next day, boom new movie) though I'd occasionally run into issues with playback after compressing and ripping the DVDs to my own discs. Movie channels work for that though, I'll record stuff I want to watch in advance. Still doesn't help you if you're not planning far in advance. If I want a movie otherwise I usually find a torrent, but how about Amazon Video? Seems pretty good. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dinstant-video&field-keywords=the+world%27s+end&rh=n%3A2858778011%2Ck%3Athe+world%27s+end&ajr=0

That's what I said. She clearly didn't play enough of those games as a kid to get the nostalgia involved. Come to think of it, she didn't like Scott Pilgrim either. bah, I'll just watch it myself at home when I get a chance.
