  1. I expect a little more progressive thinking though I think the roster generally dictates those things more than we realize sometimes. Like I expect him to hold to the quick hooks for third time through the order penalities for the non-Thor non-deGrom guys, but if the middle relievers suck he's not going to be able to do that. but predictions? 2 ejections. 2 statements that get misinterpreted and he has to backtrack/clarify later. Still the manager in 2019.

A Boy Named Seo wrote: My phone just told me that Mickey sez deGrom might miss Opening Day... no, he said he wasn't willing to commit to that. you know, because he has to progress to that point and it's still February and he's starting slowly due to stiffness? but it was more of a "will he be ready in time" thing than a "oh, he's gonna miss three months" thing.

Each of those regulars, excluding pitchers, must play a minimum of three complete innings." Ah, never knew that. "Reasonable chance to be regulars" could be fudged into being lots of crappier dudes. Evan Roberts on 'FAN (I know, consider the source) said yesterday that that rule only applied on or after March 1. Because the Mets sent no one the other way yesterday. Mets send Thor, Robles, Reyes, Flores and Nimmo.
  4. surprisingly the Mets have only drafted 6 of like 150 players from University of Michigan.

  6. also he's neither part Lion or part Eagle.
  7. Vic Sage wrote: so Flores is batting leadoff and Nimmo 6th? wtf? perhaps as a road game this is a "veterans get first AB so they get second AB and to the showers/exit first?"

  9. he's bad.
  10. metsmarathon wrote: fluky is one thing. switching formats is another. though i suppose the analogy would be akin to doing shootouts in hockey at the end of overtime. I mean, we decide the baseball champion by a tournament after a division format regular season. It's not like that's the best representation of the best team either.
  11. a little, yes. I mean, Fantasy in September with roster additions is crazy anyway. Even without the playoffs the actual winner could come down to picking up the right fluky guy that happens to get a lot of playing time in September off garbage pitchers on a bad team. Might as well do it showdown style.
  12. I like the different stats, but I've been finding the rate stats pretty frustrating in practice. A lot of the super overperformers are luck, or at least heavily fluctuating. especially WHIP which would feels like there are only a couple handful of actually 'good' guys at WHIP and the other is random fluctuation and adjustment that may not be correlated to playing time so it's hard to pick guys. Solid strikeout relievers might be called upon to IBB guys, etc. I dunno. Nothing is perfect. I've felt like once you fall behind in rate stats it's harder to catch up, versus having a bad two months of head to head means you can still make the adjustments and be good the rest of the way instead of having to be that much better to make up for the early struggles.
  13. metsmarathon wrote: wait... are the playoffs also something that happens if we're still 4x4 roto? yes. they'll just be ranked by finish.
  14. this is fun. baseball. noises in my ear. broadcast. keith ron and gary being silly.
  15. game should be streamable if you were curious about such things.
  16. goodbye lunch is gonna have me missing the start. sad.

I'll be streaming via Reddit and using the Chromecast to push the game to one of two different TVs in my house (my 2nd Chromecast arrived today). It's a bunch of extra work but until MLB Extra Innings lifts the blackout rules, or SNY signs on with my provider, I don't have any recourse (I could theoretically subscribe to MLB EI and use a DNS anonymizer to hide my location, and evade the blackout rules, but between the two that'd cost me $200 this year, and the Reddit streams are free). I don't recall, did you cut cable? If not, did you try the NBC Sports app streaming? Your cable company might not provide SNY but the app might think it does. Another alternative would be bribing someone that DOES and us their login for the NBC app.

  19. Playoffs options. Playoffs will be H2H regardless of the regular season. Either 6 teams with the top two getting a bye or 4 teams. two weeks semi, two weeks final or 4 teams, 1 week semi, two weeks final. I believe this option avoids the final week of the season. I haven't put up a divisions poll yet unless H2H wins, but if we don't have H2H we have no divisions. Ranked 1-6 as obvious. seeding is still fairly obvious. 2 divisions means top 2 or top 3. 3 divisions means top 2, or top 1 and the best other record.
  20. Switching to head to head also means switching scoring systems which sorta means our keeper choices might've been poorly informed. I included a 'switch in 2019' option in the poll if you like the idea of switching, but don't want to do it yet for this reason. The only difference in Fangraphs/SABR points is that Fangraphs penalizes pitchers for hits and is very slightly less punishing for HR (-12.3 instead of -13) Currently we're Roto (OBP, SLG, HR, R and ERA, WHIP, HR/9, K) H2H would be AB,H,2B,3B,HR,BB,HBP,SB,CS and IP,K,(H),BB,HBP,HR,SV,HOLD H2H gives us the options of divisions. Either 2 or 3, which you can comment about or we can vote about after. I would probably just assign the teams to divisions in sequential order of standing last season to try to divy it up fairly competitively.
  21. I'm updating Ottoneu. league password is 'welcome abordick' which should help keep rando's from claiming teams that we lose and don't notice, etc. new features and the like. playoffs, head to head? http://community.ottoneu.com/t/head-to-head-scoring-coming-to-ottoneu-fantasy-baseball-in-2018/2669 this will be messy as it's new features, new coding. but we gotta do it. it makes it more competitive. I'm going to turn playoffs on unless there's overwhelming angst about it. We can vote on switching to head to head/divisions and the playoff format. The playoff format will always be head to head though, just an fyi. I'm gonna make two threads for voting. one for head to head versus current, one for playoff options.
  22. 2.81 ERA. 1.3 fWAR. 30.3 K% 10.1 BB% 71 games, 45 IP.

As Edgy says, if they see it with their own eyes to the point where they're convinced enough to risk one of their challenges, then, sure, go for it. But if it first requires stalling for the better part of a minute so some team bureaucrat can examine two different feeds and six different angles like it's the Zapruder film before they even commit to asking the umpires to then ask New York, then I'd prefer no replay rule at all. well yes, don't stall the game. no delay to see if you want to challenge. just keep going. get the ball back to the pitcher and throw a pitch. Nymr83 wrote: oh, and now that we have replay you can either challenge or shut up. leaving the dugout to argue the umpires' subjective call should be an automatic ejection. you can argue the rule only (ie - "Hey umpire - the ground rules say a ball stick under that fence is a double, you gotta send that runner back to second") there shouldn't be subjective calls. This is why we need to clean up the check swing and balk rules, but that's a different argument.
  24. I have no problem with them figuring out if a guy came a 1/4" off the bag. rules are rules. Though I'd still rather they go to a tech solution.
