  1. I voted other, in that I find him pretty grating in lots of ways and there's far too much 'pep' in the way he operates and I reckon he'd drive me nuts if I had to work with him, but it seems like he's got the players on board to some degree so I'll give him a pass on it for now. Strategically I'm not as qualified because my late inning game watching is relatively rare, one thing I do like though is the willingness to plug and play - he's had a whale load of guys shuffle through and he's kind of just got on with it and giving them chances to succeed mostly rather then opportunities to fail. I always felt Jerry Manuel in particular was almost always hoping the replacements would fail to produce so he could whine about not having better gangstas to hang with.
  2. I don't have a problem with lifting young for a pinch hitter - and don't forget TC did actually artfully pinch hitting situations that we got a lot out of. It's Batista that I object to, a) it's for Satin, we're in the lead and c) it was with only one out. This may be easier for me to say for I watched till about the 4th (which was only about 1 am as they were really flying through the innings) so I didn't have to bear witness to the horror show (Valedspin's through the legs was just awful to see even though I knew the result!). It sort of felt like trouble came in 3s much the way buses do in Dublin. There's a saying in most sports that you learn more by losing then you do by winning and I think that's going to be true for Jordanny Valedspin, Terry Collins, Daniel Murphy, Elvin Ramirez and Sandy Alderson after that. It's crap to lose, but you can't complain about the effort, merely the execution.
  3. why do people tolerate that shit? I mean I can understand someone coming out to argue, but the gratuitous insults I mean c'mon, it isn't big, it isn't clever.
  4. you letting Niese bat? I would.
  5. and he absolutely hit it like a rocket.
  6. "so let him sit out this homestand, spare him the boos" I hope he isn't getting boo'ed willy nilly as he hits a lazy fly ball, I mean it isn't as if he's earning 16 million to be a superstar, he's your young homegrown talent who you'd hoped to blossom and should be nurtured even if things aren't going to plan.
  7. Yesterday David Wright had only his 3rd game where he didn't get on base. Now I didn't see the at bats, but he also struck out on 3 of the 4 occasions he was at the plate - increasing his strikeout total by 33% on the year in one game. So this may be the moment that he starts to (NATURALLY) come back to mere superstar levels from off the charts levels (Wright's .503 obp would be 17th all time - the only people who finished the season above .475 in the last 20 years were Bonds, Giambi and Thomas). And this therefore could be where the Mets season will be either maintained into a summer of hope or comes crashing down to the sub .500 level that their run differential would have you believe. It isn't helped by the fact that over the next 6 weeks before the all star break the only sub .500 teams we see our San Diego (3 games) the Cubs (6 games) and the Phillies (6 games) of the 43 games that we play. Suffice to say it's a brutal run and you could easily see them winning only 12-16 games.

    Pel Free

Whatever about Scwinden, Manny Acosta is definitively pitching his way off the roster

it's a bit much that we're getting ourselves in a tizzy over Pelfrey when a fair few people were advocating non-tendering him. I think the mets have a justifiable holding plan in trying the guys on the 40-man first - especially when Chris Young might be ready in 4/5 starts. In the 4/5 starts you'll probably have one where your offense clicks anyway and scores 7 runs and another when they fail and score 1, meaning that's it's 2/3 that are up for grabs. I think that's an acceptable risk for not fucking with roster stuff without trying the incumbents.
  10. Niese 3 Wright 2 Duda 2 Parnell 1 Murphy .5 Rauch .5 Tejeda .5 Baxter .25 Nieuwenhuis .25 (nieuwenhuis' play was great, plus I saw it live)
  11. I get the impression that Baltimore is a place everyone wants to get out of.
  12. that's ok as long as we don't have to cope with another riff on the susan waldman call.
  13. it won't be a 2 run homer but it will be this inning.
  14. i've got a Benny Agyiani style surge in my head for Kirk "10 homers in his first 73 at-bats. "
  15. well the play by play guys being on a monitor says more about the lack of a desire of the mariners television partner to pay then anything else. It definitely did seem a relatively flat atmosphere.

Probably right - in that it's something getting stuck somewhere or being twisted that's the problem, not the impact as such.

I don't think so. I'm trying to think if it would help. maybe not often, but they really don't restrict your movement at all and Ryan took a pretty good dink on his shins that they've have substantially reduced the pain of.

  19. and live on demand here in a different continent again. we're headed for extras.
  20. also don't forget Chris Young on the dl to start the year?
  21. fwiw - young Siena Stokes managed to fracture (very small but fracture) her leg on a trampoline at neighbours party. God knows it was ridiculous how it happened (but thank's be to god I wasn't the adult in charge of her at the time for that was the mrs!) 2 weeks in a cast (way back in october) but one does question the whole trampoline thing pretty quick after that!
  22. Edgy DC wrote: I may be wrong about everything else, but he's totally going to walk more than .042 you're virtually definitely right. I just looked at Xavier Nady's best season and took .01 off the obp and the slg. I sorta have a hunch that's what we're going to get.
  23. .305 avg .347 obp .500 slg 140 games played
  24. *good job by Jason Bay* wow, didn't think I'd say that.
  25. where'd you stand on the Murphy play there in that last half inning? bad mistake?
