  1. What do we know about Xavier Nady?
  2. Gasp! You never give the MVP to ... a ... PITCHER!!! They have their own award. (Tongue firmly implanted in cheek. Ouch.)
  3. Elster88 wrote: While watching MNF with a couple of buddies yesterday, one of them, who is very sports-intelligent and a Met fan, ... Get him to sign up here. We'll set him straight.
  4. And then the Mets can sign Clemens to a one-year contract! The Mets would rule then, although you'd have to hold your nose to cheer for them.
  5. Don't hold back on your feelings Elster.
  6. Don't forget HVAC Guy at Shea.
  7. Your 2005 American League Most Valuable Player is Alex Rodriguez.
  8. It seems ironic that a Yankee fan should be calling for civility, but the rudest, most unpleasant fan experience I had was at Camden Yards for a Mets-Birds game. One old lady apologized for the behavior of her Oriole fan brethren and complimented the Mets fans in attendance on their good behavior. I know some of our group encountered unwarranted hostility at the Nats game last summer too. Maybe sports fans in the Washington-Baltimore area are just particularly obnoxious?
  9. I'm FULL of AWE regarding the trade for Manny.
  10. Two events: the death of General Wolfe in the 7 Years War and the murder of George Parkman at Harvard in the 1850's. They're slightly related in that Parkman's nephew Francis was an historian whose history helped mold the popular image of General Wolfe.
  11. Cool book in which the author tries to expand on an historical event with passages written as if they were by the participants in the event themselves. Very controversial at the time of its release (1991) among historians.
  12. WILLETS POINT WINS SONG PARODY CONTEST VICTORIOUS SATIRIZER CELEBRATES WITH 7 FIGURE ENDORSEMENT DEALS
  13. Ah, it's always nice when someone can interject their biased and bigoted views about religion into a discussion about baseball.
  14. There was a great one after the A-Rod trade of Yankees in pinstrip suits lining up on the foul line with money pouring out of their pockets, hats, and lapels.
  15. Yankee Killer.
  16. Today is the 61st birthday of lifetime Met and forum namesake Ed Kranepool. Happy birthday Ed!
  17. Is he Rogers Hornsby?
  18. Mets haters? There are people who hate the Mets? Why? Teams are usually hated when they have a lot of sucess and/or a lot of bullies, neither of which describe the Mets. I think the baseball world would be divided into Mets fans, Mets pitiers and the indifferent.
  19. Was he a pitching coach?
  20. I hope this works out. International baseball competition could be a lot of fun.
  21. The Point-Petit family are strongly against this trade. The nice thing is that Yusmeiro is desirable since his name comes up in every freaking trade proposal.
  22. I blame it on Shaugnessy.
  23. Why didn't he just give him a nickname, just as Finley foisted "Catfish" on Jim Hunter. My in-law's live in Hunter's hometown and folks there still call him Jimmy, never Catfish.
