  1. There are always reasons. But 1 hr in 118 ABs is shit unless your a slick-fielding SS.
  2. 1 HR? in how many ABs?
  3. What I'm afraid of is running into one of those situations where you waste a good pitching performance one night only to score some runs the next but give up even more There's a name for when those situations arise. They're called "games played by bad teams".
  4. he designed a few more shirts, making sure not to use the word "Mets" to avoid licensing issues. i'm not sure that's enough. He's using Met colors, Met-style typography, and Met iconography (words, numbers, stadium seats, etc. associated with the Mets), to sell what would appear to be Mets apparel. I'm not a Trademark specialist, but that looks alot like "trade dress" to me, and an infringement. of course, the Mets are aware of him, it seems, and have apparently no interest in shutting him down, so go forth, Darren, and sin as much as you like.
  5. i've never heard Alderson be so articulate and insightful.
  6. just get some fucker who can hit please!

If you want to factor in SBs and defense, of course, that makes it a much closer discussion as to who was the better overall PLAYER, and i wouldn't argue with anyone who picked Vlad in that debate. But purely as a hitter, Miggsy isn't Vlad 2.0; he's Miggsy 1.0.
  8. Shes prettier with no makeup. she's prettier with no clothes.
  9. I saw an interview with Doc Gooden on CBS Sunday Morning (i love that show), and it once again made me sad to see clips of him pitching a no-hitter for the MFYs. That he, Straw and Mazz all tainted their legacies by playing and/or coaching in the Bronx remains an open wound. I didn't mind seeing Seaver come back with the Reds and kick our asses, or pitching to Fisk for the WSox. And Ryan hadn't established a real Mets legacy before stupidly dealt. And as much as i like David Cone (and I do), I never thought of him as anything but a gun for hire. He wasn't "one of ours". But watching those guys play for the MFYs? Thats a Triboro Bridge too far. I don't blame Doc and Straw. they needed jobs. and i don't really blame the Mets for not bringing them back, as they had already tainted their Mets legacies with their own behavior. It still makes me a little sad, but i can almost understand (if not accept) it. But Mazz? What the hell, dude? I understand you were traded there initially, but you didn't have to report. Jackie Robinson wouldn't play for the Giants; he retired before having to do such a thing. But alright, you went. And you did end up finding your way back to the Mets, even helping win the 86 series as a pretty good pinch-hitter. So if that half-season of MFY taint was all there was to it, i'd have gotten past it. But to go back to coach as Torre's butt-boy...did you really want to blow Torre that much? You went to Lincoln HS, like my brothers and Koufax, you douchebag! You played on the same little league field, Gil Hodges field (later renamed with grotesque genuflection as Joe Torre Stadium), as I did, you fuck. And you not only go and play for them, you coach for them? Really? You were a successful major leaguer, with a long career and matinee looks... you couldn't turn that into any other kind of post-playing career? You didn't have enough cash to wait it out? you HAD to crawl to the Bronx and suck Steinbrenner's midget dick for work? You prick. As you can see, i still carry some bitterness about Mazz's betrayal. And his son can get fucked by a rabid water buffalo for all i care.
  10. lets not overlook Alou's "piss on my hands" technique. That took some discipline, too, i would imagine.
  11. i mentioned their screwing around with the origin story above. They're currently shooting the next installment, with Jamie Foxx as Electro.

  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think Vic is saying that Gee and Hefner should lose their spots to Wheeler and McHugh. (I find that I can't type about McHugh and Gee in the same sentence without wanting to type "McGee".) actually, what i was saying was that the debate seemed to be about whether Hefner or Gee would go down to make room for Wheeler, but i thought it would be neither. I figured one of them would go to the pen, and McHugh would go back to Vegas. Eddie: When you're making out, which do you prefer, Sinatra or Mathis? Boogie: I like Presley. My only preference as to who stays in the rotation (as opposed to staying on the roster) is that Hefner had experience coming out of the pen and Gee didn't, so it would probably make most sense for Wheeler to take Hefner's slot in the rotation, while Hef takes McHugh's spot in the pen. Of course, now with Niese's injury, it's all moot.
  16. already done: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=15653&hilit=nillson
  17. from Wikipedia: ...Nilsson was also commissioned at this time to write and perform the theme song for the ABC television series The Courtship of Eddie's Father. The result, "Best Friend", was very popular, but Nilsson never released the song on record; the original version of the song (entitled "Girlfriend") was recorded during the making of Aerial Ballet but not included on that LP, and it eventually appeared on the 1995 Personal Best anthology, and as a bonus track on a later release of Aerial Ballet.
  18. Q: Hefner or Gee? A: McHugh.
  19. you move Francisco to the 60-day. complication solved.
  20. Edgy MD wrote: And apart from my daily plotzing over Allan Dykstra, it's worth noting that Wilmer Flores has had multiple hits in four straight games. and Josh Satin has a career .300+BA/.400 OB%/ .850 OPS over 2600 plate appearances. Why shouldn't he get a legit shot?
  21. "Don't start your swing as early, when you start it, swing faster, and when you swing, hit the ball better." sounds like sound advice to me. Reminds me of this time at college, when i had friend (yes I did!) named, lets call him "Fred". Fred had poor social skills and could come off nakedly manipulative and desperate. I liked him anyway, but the folks i hung with gave Fred a hard time. And so one day he comes to me for advice "how can i get them to like me?" he asks (The very question betrays why they did not). And all i could think of to say was "Fred, you know the way you are? Well, don't be that way." Ike, you know the way you are? Don't be that way. Now play ball!
  22. first of all, Cedeno isn't "good", he's simply a more established major league hitter than Omar, but neither of them are "good" in any objective sense of the word. Omar, however, seems to me a much better glove at SS than Cedeno. But that's all irrelevant since Omar is here and Cedeno isn't. The question is who is best for the Mets to play at SS now? I have no faith in Tejada, and never have. And if he's not even a reliable glove anymore, he's pointless. Let him go to AAA and rediscover his stroke (such as it is) and show some hustle and passion for the game. In the meantime, i'm sure Omar can hit the same .210, but be more consistent with the glove and play with a little more fire. If Ruben earns a promotion, you can always cut omar without losing a night's sleep.
  23. Centerfield wrote: I don't know how else to put it, but Ike Davis looks like a guy who lacks the ability to hit major league pitching. As far as I can tell, he has two major problems: 1. Lack of batspeed: The fastballs are too fast for him. So he starts his swing earlier, making him susceptible to breaking pitches. This is why he ends up flailing at pitches in the dirt. 2. Lack of hand-eye coordination: On the rare occasion that he guesses correctly he lacks the hand-eye coordination to hit it square, often fouling it off or making weak contact. When other hitters slump, they get out of balance, or their swing gets long. I don't know how one corrects these two problems. All I know is that I have never seen a major league hitter look this bad. Except the notion that he just lacks the ability to hit major league pitching is contradicted by his actual major league performance prior to this season. Unless we're saying something happened between the end of last season and the beginning of this one (injury? illness? mental breakdown? replaced by a pod person?), or that he suffers from a heretofore unknown hitter's syndrome similar to the Steve Blass syndrome suffered by pitchers (including our own CFer), then it seems too easy to say "oh, he just sucks." IF only it were that simple, it would be less frustrating.
  24. his career numbers don't suggest a major league hitter, but what the hell. He's hot; maybe they catch lightning in a bottle while Ike rediscovers the strike zone in AAA.
