  1. this puts him 10th overall next season, and his 3-4 year average puts him in the Leyland/Sciosia/Francona/Bochy range, which is probably a bit high for a 2-year man, but not egregiously so. A good deal overall, for both sides.
  2. could every body just shut up for a minute, so soupy can post more pictures!
  3. TheOldMole wrote: The real deal as pitcher or wife-beater? they're not mutually exclusive.
  4. Yancy Street Gang wrote: It actually goes back farther than that. I have an updated list that I can post. Please hold... well, yes, they used that structure sporadically from 1967 on, but its apparently been the structure since 1980 (with at least 1 and sometimes 2 rookie league teams). Are you saying the Mets have no rookie league teams this year? Or simply that they haven't announced their rookie league affiliations yet?
  5. i was wondering... we've had a structure of: - 1 Rookie league team - 3 A ball teams (low A / High A) - 1 AA team - 1 AAA team since the early 80s. Is this structure typical for MLB teams during this period?
  6. moyers is 44, and Lieber isn't far behind. We on the other hand only have ONE old, soft-tossing lefty. Garcia is mediocre and Eaton aspires to be. But the wife-beating Myers is the real deal, and Cole Hamels waits in the wings, with huge upside. While that pitching staff doesn't impress me, neither does ours. So we're going to have to outslug them. Which isn't a sure thing.
  7. i don't think they carry Humber, either, unless he wins the 5th SP slot. I would think they'd want both those guys to pitch every 5th day.
  8. As it stands now (including ST invitees): likely lineup (8) 1) Reyes (ss) ** 2) LoDuca 3) Beltran (cf) ** 4) Delgado (1b) * 5) Wright 6) Green (rf) * 7) Alou (lf) 8) Valentin (2b) ** Bench (5-6) 1) Castro © 2) Franco (1b/3b) 3) Easley (IF/Of) 4) Chavez (Of) * 5) Newhan (Ut) * - [6) Hernandez (IF) ** -[Gotay (Ut) **/ Johnson (Of) / Milledge Of) / Ambres (Of) / Sierra (Of) / Mendez (Of)] Rotation (5) 1) Glavine * 2) Maine 3) O.Perez * 4) Hernandez 5) Sosa - [Pelfrey / Humber / Soler / Vargas* / Collazo / Sele] - DL: Martinez, Williams * Bullpen (6-7) 1) Wagner - (closer) * 2) Sanchez - (set-up / back-up closer) 3) Heilman - (set-up / MI) 4) Burgos / [Mota] - (MI) - [Padilla / Adkins / Soler / Sosa / Schmoll / Vargas*] 5) Schoenweiss* - (Loogy) - [Feliciano* / Vargas*] 6) Vargas* - (6th SP / Long-man) - [soler / Sosa / Sele] - [7] Adkins - (Roogy / Mop up) - [Padilla / Soler / Sosa / Schmoll / Bostick / Nageotte / Urdaneta / J.Vasquez] * = Lefty hitter / pitcher ** = switch-hitter [on edit: Standridge designated for assignment; Martinez, Williams on DL, Mota suspended]
  9. innings cap is an absolute must, and i recommended it last year. 9 innings x 162 games = approximately 1450 innings. i hate weekly action. If you don't have time for daily settings, you are free to set your lineup for the week, but we shouldn't penalize those who'd rather react to real baseball situations as they arise (like injuries, slumps, etc), which makes the game more fun.
  10. I saw it 20-something years ago and remember being impressed by it at the time. Maybe it doesn't hold up... or maybe I don't... or maybe its just fine, and you lack sufficient appreciation of pirate movies.
  11. adapted from what? the spontaneous utterances of morons?

  13. nominations for the worst movies of the year... "...Basic Instinct 2 received seven nominations Monday for the Razzie Awards that mock the bottom of Hollywood's barrel, among them worst picture and worst actress of the year. Also receiving seven nominations was the Wayans brothers comedy "Little Man," about a thief posing as a baby, including worst picture and director for Keenen Ivory Wayans. Shawn and Marlon Wayans shared a worst-actor nomination, while sisters Hilary and Haylie Duff shared a worst-actress nomination for "Material Girls." "We stuck the siblings together to allow room for more dreck," said Razzies founder John Wilson. The other worst-picture nominees were the fantasies "BloodRayne" and "Lady in the Water" and the thriller "The Wicker Man." Winners will be announced Feb. 24, the day before the Academy Awards..." for more info, go to: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070122/ap_en_mo/film_razzies
  14. About DD wrestling... does he do it like Alan Bates in Ken Russell's "Women In Love" adaptation?... naked, by candlelight?
  15. i'm really looking forward to this one. I love Del Toro's films.
  16. history is written by the winners... or, in this case, by whoever pays the bills.
  17. thanks, wolfie. that was helpful. and of course there's no "correct" way... i asked if there was a "preferred" way. as a kid, i "preferred" to play "colors"... its like war with bb cards, matching colors would win. we also "flipped" cards.
  18. my daughter is now getting into collecting baseball cards. She got the Topps 06 complete box set for xmas, and has put them into 9-card sleeves in a binder (organized by team). i never really collected cards (i was/am a comic book junkie), so i don't really know the ins and outs, and i don't know how to advise her. i've suggested she stick to Topps, because they're the "real ones", as far as i'm concerned. Obviously, i know rookie cards are valuable, and i know she's going to want to get as many Mets cards as she can. Is there a preferred internet source for well-priced old mets cards? rookie cards? annual sets? Is there a preferred style of storage, organization, etc, to which i can refer her? Any other thoughts or suggestions?
  19. we already have 3 LRPs... your forgetting young Vargas, who spent significant time in the bullpen in his 2 seasons. Also, D.Williams, if he doesn't make the rotation. This is another demerit for Omar's crappy off-season.
