  1. well, I'm blocked on MLB app. They did offer to let me pay an additional fee to "upgrade my subscription" to receive the Washington Nationals TV package. I didn't even look to see what the fee would be, as I am not interested in paying more to MLB. I can listen to the Nationals radio broadcast for free . Um, pass.
  2. I understand your point, Edgy. It definitely has some validity, but it is sad that we, as Mets fans, are reduced to pulling for moral victories, as opposed to actual victories. This team desperately, needs to win games, but I don't see that happening consistently. I believe that this Mets team is too limited offensively and too short of starting pitching to make a realistic playoff run. I felt the odds of such a run were exceedingly small before Holmes injury last night, but at this point I think this team will do well to win 82 games this season.
  3. The good news is that it was a fibula fracture rather than a tibia fracture. The tibia is the primary weight bearing bone in the lower leg, while the fibula primarily serves as a stabilizer and primary site for muscle attachments. Due to the the difference in size and function, the recovery time for a fracture of the tibia and fibula can vary greatly. A fracture of the tibia generally requires 5-6 months for the bone to heal and to begin rebuilding the muscles. The bad news, is that a clean fracture of the fibula still requires 7-8 weeks for the bone to heal, then one can start to rebuild lost muscle strength. Either way, Clay Holmes is likely lost until early to mid August, not counting minor league starts to regain his arm strength. By then the Mets chances of making the playoffs will almost certainly be a distant memory.
  4. Unfortunately, moral victories mean little in the standings.
  5. Who cares what he thinks? He was an athlete, not a scholar. He was good (ERA <4.00) 4 times in a 9 year career, one of which he didn't pitch due to injury. If he doesn't want to be a part of the Mets history, then let him see if the Dodgers, Phillies, or Indians organizations want to welcome him into their history.
  6. It will be interesting to see how the Mets do against a team with a winning record. They have primarily been playing teams with losing records (or at most barely treading water at the .500 mark). To say they have not fared well in the games against teams with winning records would be an understatement. The Mets were swept in 3 game series against the A's, Dodgers and Cubs. I am hoping for better against the Yankees.
  7. Break out the Brooms! The Mets get their first series sweep of the season.
  8. My college coach absolutely loved the safety squeeze and "suicide" squeeze plays. It was a prominent part of our team's offense. He made sure we could all bunt effectively. When we took batting practice, each of us generally got 15-18 strikes. We were not allowed to swing the bat until we laid down 3 "good bunts".* We all wanted to swing the bat, so we quickly learned that it was to our advantage to lay down 3 good bunts in as few strikes as possible, so we could start hitting. *A good bunt was not in the popped up, not foul, not back to the pitcher, and not right in front of the plate. The coach determined if your bunts were good or not. He later instituted a bonus in which we got one extra swing if we got 3 good bunts down in 3 strikes.
  9. Hey, who are these guys in Mets uniforms that are suddenly hitting. It sure makes watching the team more enjoyable, that's for sure.
  10. Understandable. No more than minor leaguers make, I was shocked that they would pay 15 players the huge difference that the MLB minimum represents. I learned something new today. So that's a good day!
  11. According to Baseball America, a minor league player receives a pro-rated MLB salary ($780,000/162 or $4814.81/game) during their time on the active roster. However, minor league players receive a special salary (approximately $67,300+) if sent down while still on the 40 man roster. If not on the 40 man roster, a standard minor league salary is $1,250 a week for AAA.
  12. The Mets catch a break. Workman sure appeared to be safe at third on the slow motion replays. I guess it was the "insufficeint evidence to overturn" the initial call. We'll take it. This team needs all the help it can get.
  13. The Mets need to do something about batters challenging calls. Bichette gets fouled on a pitch for strike three and immediately challenges. The pitch was "a pitcher's pitch" and easily a strike. So the Mets lose one challenge 2 batters into the game. I think challenges are best used by catchers and should otherwise be reserved for egregiously bad calls.
  14. Tigers take a quick 3-0 lead on a three run HR by Gage Workman.
  15. Francisco Lindor's follow up MRI of his injured left calf revealed evidence of healing, however he is still considered a long way from returning to the Mets. He will continue to allow the calf to heal while undergoing a regimen of therapy. Then he will need to adequately strengthen his leg with weight training prior to starting a running program. If the running goes well, then he can begin baseball related activities. There is no timeline yet established for his return. I suspect the Mets will consider themselves fortunate if Lindor can return to the team prior to the All-Star break in mid July.
  16. Possibly in the off-season, but I doubt it. The MLB minimum salary is $780,000 for 2026. That breaks down to $4,814.81 per game. If a player fills n for 10 games when someone is on the DL, they have a great 2 weeks. With Alvarez expected to be out a minimum of 6 weeks, Senger should not need to stock shelves at the grocery store any time soon.
  17. Hitting with power and striking out at a high rate. His line at Syracuse through 39 games .241/.316/.454/.770 He has 60 strike outs in 158 at bats. with 7 home runs. Striking out once every 2.5 at bats (38%) isn't going to cut it. He needs to make more consistent contact,.

  19. Come on, their closer in Kenley Jansen. He is a once was with a 4.82 ERA and 1.382 WHIP this year, but the Mets anemic offense will end up making him look like Mariano Riviera in his prime.
  20. I'm guessing his ankle is swelling from the ball he fouled off it earlier in the game.
  21. Ewing has better plate discipline than any Met not named Soto. Takes the walk for another RBI.
  22. Semien hits two balls hard and has nothing to show for it. Then he dribbles a swinging bunt for a single. Bringing up Ewing with the bases juiced.
  23. Ewing is having a great MLB debut. A walk, a triple, an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored. The only thing left is to sell beer and hot dogs between innings.
  24. A ground ball through the hole that goes to the wall. They must have been playing him to go opposite field.
