  1. I would imagine that now that Acuna is in Syracuse, that Ronny Mauricio would replace Lindor at shortstop (in an emergency) since he spent the majority of his MiLB career (395 games) at shortstop. Brett Baty has never played shortstop during his professional career, so I don't expect him to start now with the Mets. Jeff McNeil has played 1 inning at shortstop during his MLB career. I love McNeil's versatility, but I don't wish to see him manning shortstop unless it is a dire emergency. If Lindor had to miss significant time, heaven forbid, then I would expect a quick call for Acuna to take his spot.
  2. Throws 99+ and has a "wipeout" slider that I read the opposition is hitting under .100 against this year. They are getting to his fastball more this year though. Had 48 saves last season, so he is accustomed to high leverage situations.
  3. I'm quite happy that Saurez ended up in Seattle with Mariners, rather than the Phillies, Yankees, or Cubs who were all reportedly looking at him.
  4. It appears the Mets bullpen should be pretty settled once this deal is finalized. No if we could get a few starting pitchers, other than Peterson, to successfully pitch more than 5 innings during their starts. I would love a CF that can hit, but I'm not holding my breath.
  5. Suarez would be great, but I don't believe the Mets have even been mentioned as one of the teams trying to acquire him.
  6. Nice pick up by the Phillies. Costs them 2 top MLB 100 prospects, Eduardo Tait a catcher (MLB#52 / Phillies #4) and Mick Abel RHP (MLB#92 / Phillies #6). Duran will be arbitration eligible for the first time after this season.
  7. Either of the Rogers twins would be a strong addition to the bullpen, but I believe the Mets got the better of the two. Looking at their stats this season: IP WHIP OPS ERA ERA+ HR/9 K/BB Tyler RHRP 50 0.860 .522 1.80 216 0.50 9.50 Taylor LHRP 33 1.455 .733 2.45 184 0.80 1.79 I would say that they both would be a welcomed addition to the Mets bullpen, but if we could only have one of them, then I believe the Mets got the right one.
  8. I'm okay with it. It is a high price for a free agent to be, but he immediately should be one of our most effective relievers. He has a proven record of making a lot of appearances and being effective the majority of the time. You don't get quality pitchers for nothing.
  9. Jacob DeGrom was a late bloomer that did pretty well. He made his MLB debut at 25 years and 11 months of age (not quite 27 but just off the top of my head).
  10. Definitely gave up quite a bit for a free agent in waiting. Rogers is an upgrade over Butto and has been a durable reliever, but this seems a win now move. I don't mind losing Tidwell and Butto, but Gilbert has been really tearing it up of late. And the Mets need all the help they can get in CF.
  11. I was in graduate school and living on Chicago's south side (near Comiskey Park) when Ryne Sandberg became the Cubs third baseman. I was a die hard Mets fan, but in the days before internet and cable TV (at least in Chicago) I watched a lot of Cubs games on WGN. This was in the days before lights in Wrigley Field. So my friends (classmates) and I would carry an old 21" colored TV on "rabbit ears" downstairs and set it in the shade of the small back yard. We would sit on lawn chairs in the sun with a cooler of beer and watch the Cubs game. Several of my friends were lifelong Cubs fans, but my Mets fandom made pulling for the Cubs seem wrong.* Ryne Sandberg, however, was easy to pull for. There was something in the way he played the game and carried himself. Though I never really rooted for the Cubs, I always pulled for Sandberg, as long as they weren't playing the Mets. He always seemed like a good guy that maximized his potential and got the most out of his abilities. Thanks for the memories Ryne and rest in peace. *I did adopt the White Sox as my "second team"
  12. Jack Aker had a pretty solid career as a reliever. He pitched for the Mets toward the end of his career, so I'll take a shot with "Uncle Jack".
  13. Whether his ERA+ is 99 or 101, it shows he is basically league average in ERA. He has a high K/9 rate and a high BB/9 rate. He has an established record and is having a pretty solid season, he should definitely help the Mets bullpen.
  14. Soto has a ERA+ of 99 this season and his career ERA+ is 101. He should help as the bullpen definitely needed help, particularly another lefty. If he could cut down on the walks, he could be very good. Unfortunately, he has had a high walk rate (4.7/9) his entire career, so I don't expect that to change.
  15. Jonathon has started 8 games for the Brooklyn Cyclones thus far this season. He currently has a 2-4 record with 32.0 innings. His ERA is 5.81 and he has surrendered 1.581 WHIP with 32 K and 12 walks. He has been touched for 7 HRs over his 32 innings of work. Small sample size, but he obviously needs to do a better job suppressing the long ball. Luckily, he is only 22 years old, so he has time to develop.
  16. Jett is having a solid start to his season with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Through 38 games and 158 ABs, Jett is slashing .284/.373/.485/.858 with 4 HRs and 9 SB in 12 attempts. He is primarily playing SS. He has 27 starts at SS, 5 starts in CF, 5 starts as DH, and 1 start at 2B. Overall, he has 6 errors on 82 chances as a shortstop. He is error free in his 5 games in CF and 1 game at second. Overall, a rather promising AA season for a 21 year old, though his error rate at SS is pretty high.
  17. Danny Young has reportedly opted to have season ending surgery.
  18. Rated as #2 prospect (behind Brandon Sproat) in the Mets system. Hopefully, he can remain healthy and start to deliver on his promise.
  19. I don't think he has actually pitched professionally since being drafted last summer. Rated as the #15 prospect in Mets system.
  20. Okay, I'll throw out my dark horse prediction. The Mets pen is once again deficient in left-handed options. There is A.J. Minter and hopefully, Danny Young. If something happens to them, then someone will need to step up and be the man. I present to you, Brandon Waddell who last pitched in the major in 2021. For his storied(?) career he has 12.2 IP to his credit while holding batters to a sub .300 avg. (.296) and 2.13 WHIP while surrendering more walks than strike outs. Should Minter falter (heaven forbid) and Young disappoint, then my man is ready to step into the void and be the lefty no one wants to see (especially Mets fans) coming out of the bullpen. If he ends up making the team (at any point) and pitches effective innings, then he is a true contender for the 2025 Dark Horse.
  21. 2 not 3. Thanks, Pete got hosed imho Pete and Boras greatly overestimated the market for Pete. The Mets weren't the only ones unwilling to offer Pete anywhere near the 5-7 years for $165-200 mil. that Boras initially floated out there. Pete took what is essentially a 1 year. deal at a high pay (bonus & salary), because it was the best offer he could get.
  22. Glad to have Pete back. The way the contract is structured it is basically $30 mil. for 2025, then Pete opts out and reenters the free agent market. The only way I see Pete not opting out is if his production continues to drop. This gives the Mets a year to find out if any of the youngsters are ready to step in (as Vientos did in 2024) and become a major contributor in 2026. If not, I believe Stearns /Cohen are more likely to give a long term deal to Vlad Jr., who is 4 years younger than Pete and hits for average as well a power.
  23. If a player thinks they can do better by exercising their opt-out clause, that is their prerogative, but I see no reason why the team should pay them for exercising that right. If the team has a buyout and wishes to exercise it because they feel the player is not performing to the level commensurate with his compensation, then that is different in my view. I don't fault a player and their representative for asking for a player opt out with pay from the team, but I don't fault a team for refusing such a request.
  24. I would certainly expect so.
  25. Yup. I say offer him $78 mil. for 3 years* with opt out after both year 1 and 2. If that isn't good enough, then good luck in the future. *Of course, it's not my money so it's easy to up the reported offer.
