  1. Mike Schmidt: (1) Open up their b-r.com and umdb.com pages. (2) Figure out the scale factor, based on a 162-game season (at the bottom of their b-r stats). Schmidt's average 162-game season was 563 AB; he had 910 AB against the Mets. Therefore, you divide all his Mets stats by 1.616 (910/563). You get: RH2BHRAVGSLGRBITBvs NYM981442230.255.474100267vs ALL1011512737.267.527107297 Actually a little worse against the Mets than his overall numbers.
  2. Chipper's Mets numbers aren't actually too different from his overall numbers. Two or three more homers, but other than that, pretty close.
  3. Pat Burrell (normalized to 584 AB season): RH2BHRAVGSLGRBISBvs NYM911492750.255.5671312vs ALL811513230.258.4761051 Yowza.
  4. If only we knew a Mets fan who was getting married...
  5. Actually, if that's a #15, and it's from 1992, that would Kevin Elster she's sexing up.
  6. Considering the meticulous (SC=100) way they prepare for their own daily broadcast, that would totally lick balls.

  8. But Steve Kemp is funnier.
  9. Bret Sabermetric wrote: ="MFS62"]="seawolf17"]My first thought on Bret's comment is ex-wives, but I guess they should know about all of those. But they might not have known about children fathered while on road trips. Later The funny part is that you would need to search pretty long and hard to find three more straight-laced family-type guys (by reputation anyway). Yancy's line about Straw is probably truer than we might suppose. Wasn't there some pro basketball "playa" who had sixty gazillion kids with forty-eleven women or something? Calvin Murphy, IIRC. I visited his high school in CT this fall; they have a big shrine to him outside their gym. No mention of the kids. edit: Perhaps not. A quick search find that he was indicted a year and a half ago for child molestation. Perhaps I was just thinking of that.
  10. You know, Yancy, you have to keep bringing that up, don't you? You'll never get him to visit that way.
  11. My first thought on Bret's comment is ex-wives, but I guess they should know about all of those.
  12. I'm going to respond to the "voting for Jefferies" issue in this thread, rather than the Brogna thread. So what? Every year, a handful of random never-gonna-make-its get a vote or two. That's the whole point of the democratic process! If I want to go in and write in David Wright for President, let me do that. It doesn't mess with the integrity of the system, it doesn't diminish whoever does get elected, it doesn't do anything. It makes David Wright feel good that he got a vote for President. Same thing with Jefferies. It's the same thing with the movie poll voting here; if I think Airplane! is one of the Top Ten Movies Of All Time, then I'm giving it a five. And other people will give it a two, because they thought it was dumb. And others will give it a four, because it was classic, but not an "all-time" movie. And that's fine, because it'll settle somewhere in the middle. 75% of the voters aren't going to vote for Gregg Jefferies, or Mackey Sasser, or Darryl Strawberry. And he's not going to get into the HoF. And that's fine. I just don't understand the outrage.
  13. I don't know that anyone would be offended if a mod made a little edit.
  14. And there ain't gonna be too many "action" photos of him.
  15. Don't worry, PF... I got the joke.
  16. And SNAP! Just like that, we're eliminated from the [u:55d6b04c6a]Parents[/u:55d6b04c6a] magazine "Family Web Site Of The Year" award for 2006 already.
  17. I don't know, but a quick player search on ESPN.com shows that the Mets and Reds have rights to all four players in the major leagues whose last names start with "Valent." Search: valent Valent, Eric New York Mets Valentin, Javier Cincinnati Reds Valentin, Jose New York Mets Valentine, Joe Cincinnati Reds
  18. If he's 17, we probably won't see him so soon.
  19. Wow. I love that '67. Neat.
  20. I thought we were supposed to make all new threads for 2006? Perhaps we should have called it "Rico," but it's all new, baby!
  21. Thigpen is the closest I could get also, but that just doesn't seem right.
  22. Great for Sutter. Loved him as a kid.
  23. They gave Bradford $1.4 million. He's on the 25.
  24. You know? I turned 12 in March 1988, and I remember that '88 team -- and, relatedly, the entire 1988 Topps Mets baseball card team set -- better than any other Mets team. Kevin McReynolds, Mackey Sasser, David Cone. Looking on b-r.com, the Mets really only used eight pitchers that year of any significance: Gooden, Darling, Cone, Sid, Ojeda, Myers, McDowell, and Leach. Aguilera threw less than an inning a week, and he was ninth in IP. It really was a different time. That reminds me of the old Micro League Baseball game for the C64. It came with around thirty legendary teams, and I liked playing with the '27 Yanks, because they barely had enough pitchers to fill out the roster. The game required ten pitchers on the roster, and as a result, it had to include Joe Giard, who pitched 27 innings to an 8.00 ERA, and Walter Beall, who pitched one inning and gave up one run. That was always fascinating to my little kid mind. Wow, that's a rambling post.
  25. Niiiice. Get 'im in the rotation!
