  1. Yeah. Shit will go down.
  2. Patchy-Just downloaded the Neil Best interview. Haven't listened to it (I'll pop it in the car on the way home), but here's a suggestion: rip it to mp3 at a lower bitrate. 160 is fine, and I'm sure the sound is excellent; but considering it's talk radio, you could definitely go down to 128 (CD quality), or probably even lower (96 kbps), save a ton of file space, and not lose any quality.Just a thought.
  3. He's on break; he shows up every couple of days, curses, then slinks back into the shadows. Mysterious, that Val.
  4. Edgy DC wrote: Too much work to add all the NRIs now Better move quickly, Edge, before Valadius jumps on you.
  5. Sorry, Scarlet. I saw that it was fixed, and I figured I'd just delete it, since it didn't matter.
  6. Willets Point wrote: The power of millions of New Englanders bitching and moaning in one voice is amazing. Especially in that crazy accent.
  7. smg58 wrote: Trax may have been a little too candid with that one. Not that I disagree with him, mind you. That's the kind of attitude we can't have in this clubhouse. Maybe they can find a middle reliever somewhere and deal Trax out of here.
  8. Bret, less than a quarter of the people who voted in this poll are favorable towards this trade. So save your generalizations for another discussion.
  9. Always liked Vern Hoscheit. Besides the fact that to my ten-year-old mind, his name kinda sounded like a curse, he visited my baseball camp with Terry Leach one year. Don't know what I did with my Hoscheit photo, but I have my Terry Leach photo somewhere. Plus, he was a "bullpen coach," which was mysterious to me. You saw all the other coaches: Bill Robinson, Bobby V, Mel Stottlemyre, Buddy, whoever. I don't think I ever saw Hoscheit in uniform during a TV broadcast. I felt the same way about Rob Drumenhauser, who was a bullpen catcher for a few years around the same time.
  10. Some photos from today at the NY Public Library: Front, L to R: Matsui, LoDuca, Alomar, Peterson, Randolph, Valentin LoDuca, Peterson, Randolph. Let any MBTN administrators we have lying around note Julio Franco (top right corner) wearing a jersey number ending in 3. Carlos Delgado and some guy that the AP refers to as "Jay" Wright (perhaps David's long-lost twin brother) wave to the faithful at the NYSE. Delgado, Wright, Wagner, LoDuca.
  11. ]Sources: Phillies, Piazza have preliminary talks By Jayson Stark ESPN.com The Phillies have shown interest in free-agent catcher Mike Piazza over the last few days. Discussions between the team and Piazza's agents, the Beverly Hills Sports Council, have been "very preliminary," according to one source, and haven't specifically addressed money or Piazza's role. But Piazza could fit as a complement to Mike Lieberthal, who some of the club's decision-makers feel would be best off playing only about four days a week. The Phillies also need to settle on a right-handed bat to play first base and give Ryan Howard days off against left-handed pitching. Piazza once had the Phillies on his no-trade list, but he is said to be interested. Toronto, San Diego, Baltimore and Anaheim also are thought to have mild interest in Piazza. And his agents talked with the Yankees recently about a job as a backup catcher and part-time DH.

    SABR

I just realized who's on the 2:00 "panel." Is that the best SABR could do? What, Mike Fitzgerald's gardener wasn't available? Did Billy Wynne's barber have another commitment that he couldn't break?
  13. I know, I know. Some of the best managers had mediocre major league careers, if they made it to the show at all. I'm assuming that fan hatred of Juan Samuel runs far deeper than any organizational animosity (of which there appears to be none whatsoever.
  14. I think the surprise is because he sucked.
  15. I guess in certain situations, the "personal catcher" works. If a guy who wins 15 games every single year wants to pitch to a certain guy, you let him. If your captain can't catch the knuckleballer who frustrates the hell out of your main rival, then you let the other guy catch him. Only somewhat relevant... somewhere on the old board, I did a quick study of the Braves 2nd catchers through the last ten years, showing how they almost universally beat the living hell out of the Mets, as opposed to their numbers against the rest of the league. So maybe it didn't cost them so much after all.
  16. The Atlantic League finally got an eighth team (the Barnstormers, replacing the vagabond Road Warriors who played an all-road schedule the past few years), and now the Nashua Pride go under, so the Road Warriors come back for 2006.

    SABR

I always suspected JD and Edgy were the same person. I will go to one of these events someday. But not this weekend. I know that as soon as I get there, my wife will go into labor. And I would hate to miss the birth for a baseball conference.
  18. Boy, I'm somewhere between "refuse to speak of him" and "officially hate him, but". I was thinking about this on my drive to work this morning... in reality, the Yankees are just another team, so why should I care? And I guess I don't. He provided a lot of great moments for me, so I wish him the best. I can't let my hatred for that franchise taint that memory.
  19. I don't think Norrin likes this deal.
  20. Nah. I'm a big-time scout. Of course I'm kidding! I looked up the draft, and I was going to pick some random no-name guy who never made it above single-A, but Dontrelle Willis jumped out at me.
  21. January 3, 2000 New York Mets released Bobby Bonilla. loved it, love it January 14, 2000 New York Mets traded Masato Yoshii to the Colorado Rockies for Bobby Jones and Lariel Gonzalez. liked it, like it January 21, 2000 New York Mets traded Luis Lopez to the Milwaukee Brewers for Bill Pulsipher. liked it, now neutral February 8, 2000 New York Mets signed free agent Rich Rodriguez. neutral then, hate it now March 17, 2000 New York Mets signed free agent Timo Perez. neutral than, love it now March 18, 2000 New York Mets traded Jesse Orosco to the St. Louis Cardinals for Joe McEwing. disliked it then, love it now -- I was upset that they didn't give Jesse O one more chance. I thought it would have been great to have him back, even though he didn't pitch much. I remember being surprised that we got an everyday-type player for a guy who pitched 1/3 of an inning every couple of days, though. May 13, 2000 New York Mets released Rickey Henderson. liked it then, like it now June 2, 2000 New York Mets traded Bill Pulsipher to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Lenny Harris. neutral then, like it now June 5, 2000 New York Mets selected Jeff Duncan in seventh round of free agent draft. I remember being furious that they didn't draft this high school pitcher out of Oakland named Willis that I really liked. He went to the Cubs eight picks later. July 28, 2000 New York Mets traded Melvin Mora, Mike Kinkade, Pat Gorman and Lesli Brea to the Baltimore Orioles for Mike Bordick. disliked it at first, then liked it when he homered, and hate it now -- I liked Mora a lot. I thought they gave up too much for a rental. New York Mets traded Paul Wilson and Jason Tyner to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for Bubba Trammell and Rick White. liked it then, still like it now, but only because my wife and I still joke about the game when Seaver kept calling him "Rick Wheat". August 30, 2000 New York Mets traded Nelson Cruz to the Oakland Athletics for Jorge Velandia. indifferent then, like it now -- Velandia is one of my favorite Met scrubeenies of recent years December 9, 2000 Colorado Rockies signed Mike Hampton of the New York Mets as a free agent. I was pissed then, but I wouldn't have given him that kind of money, so I liked it; I'm not sure today. I think I would have liked to have seen him pitch the last couple of years here. December 10, 2000 Pittsburgh Pirates signed Derek Bell of the New York Mets as a free agent. liked it then, like it now December 11, 2000 New York Mets signed free agent Kevin Appier of the Oakland Athletics. New York Mets signed free agent Steve Trachsel of the Toronto Blue Jays. New York Mets signed free agent Tsuyoshi Shinjo. I liked all three of these then, and I guess except for Appier, I still like them. Appier's a dislike. New York Mets traded Bubba Trammell to the San Diego Padres for Donne Wall. Hated this at the time, because I thought Wall was a complete waste, and I still thought Bubba was a 30-100 guy. Indifferent now. December 13, 2000 Atlanta Braves signed Kurt Abbott of the New York Mets as a free agent. December 20, 2000 Baltimore Orioles signed Mike Bordick of the New York Mets as a free agent. Seeya, losers.
  22. Seems a bit tedious to see what our feelings were -- and are -- about the loss of Ryan McGuire and David Lamb, eh?
  23. Elster88 wrote: ="Yancy Street Gang"]I wouldn't vote that I hated Jorge Julio, unless he does something truly hateful, which I don't anticipate. Didn't he once electrocute a small child in his swimming pool? Wasn't that Mariano Rivera?
  24. Elster88 wrote: ="Yancy Street Gang"]I'm surprised; we have a vote for "love." Another one who needs a smack with a two by four. Or maybe Jorge Julio's a member of the board.
