  1. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. (Sorry. Instinct.)

  3. (Don't tell my wife; it's an excuse for me to buy baseball cards. It really has no bearing on the kid whatsoever... he's six months old.)
  4. So I've decided to put together a binder of Mets history for MiniWolf, featuring Topps baseball cards through the years. I spent a few days selecting nine cards from each set, trying to get a balance between representing the stars multiple times and getting as wide a variety of players as I can. Working through eBay and through The Bench, which is where I spend most of my time that isn't spent here, I've done pretty well; I only need about 130 more cards (!!). It's a crazy project, but I'm having a lot of fun putting it together... and it's something we can build together every year as he grows up.
  5. We keep blowing off Duck games or giving our tickets to other people, but we'll be there Saturday night.
  6. I was trying to figure out if it was some bizarre nickname for a guy named Monkey Strange or something.
  7. Edgy DC wrote: If I accurately recall, Trammell and Bonderman kept grinding away and, like the Tigers themselves, staved off 20 the right way. But Mike Maroth couldn't stave it off, finishing 9-21 in 2003 and shutting Brian Kingman's piehole for good.
  8. Squid, is there any rhyme or reason to what gets bumped and what doesn't? This thread didn't seem to generate any discussion the first time around, so I wouldn't figure it would merit a bump. But I guess that's why you're the squid and I'm the wolf.

  10. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyylllllllll..........
  11. Zvon wrote: Beltran hooks a wicked drive to the left field wall, towards the corner. A foot short of a homer as it smacks off the wall and past a circling Burrell for a double. And Beltran does his stealing 3rd base thing. Phils announcers are ticked off that Beltran should be doin that with a 5 run lead. Hey, Phillies announcers... if you don't like it, then throw him out. Suckas.
  12. Yancy Street Gang wrote: He mentioned that in the paper today. His black and blue cap is a little too big for him. He claims that his blue cap fits snugly, but he hasn't had a chance to wear it in a game yet. We have an entire freaking stadium full of hats, and we can't find one that fits for the guy who makes eleven million dollars a year?!?!
  13. MFS62 wrote: ="Yancy Street Gang"]Has anyone ever seen a stat that tells the average number of pitches that a batter sees during a plate appearance? I don't necessarily mean for a given pitcher, but for baseball as a whole? They've been printing/ reporting that stat for Abreau, so somebody's counting it. But I don't know where its recorded/ available. Later The rankings for batters (P/PA) are here. For pitchers, it's here.
  14. Didn't we do this once? I sang lead and played a little keys and a little guitar in a rock band in high school.
  15. Zvon wrote: ="Johnny Dickshot"]Just a guess, but Burell must've been complicit, considering the descriptions of the sticky basepaths. I really thought it was just a flat out error- but I aint complainin. Ive had that triboom in my back pocket since the all star game. Zvon might be my favorite member of the Pool. No offense to anyone else.
  16. And the Mets have their fifth six-run inning of the year. Fascinating Stat Of The Day Scorin' Em In Bunches: As of right now, the Mets have scored three or more runs in an inning this year 84 times, almost as many times as they've scored "only" two (85 times).
  17. Game Cast has the ball landing in foul territory for an RBI single, scoring Beltran; then it has Manuel getting ejected. Hell, if they gave the other team an RBI single on a foul ball, I'd get ejected too.
  18. It's times like this that the ESPN Game Cast sucks... it went to 2-0 on Wright, then I'm just sitting here.
  19. ="metirish"]]STARTING PITCHING: Chien-Ming Wang doesn't have quite the same bite on his two-seam fastball from earlier in the season, but his 3.13 ground ball/fly ball ratio (best in the AL) is still good enough to throttle the Mets. Wang's only demerit is his anemic strikeout percentage (2.96 per nine innings), which is the result of hitters swinging early in the count. That keeps his pitch-count low, but too many balls are put in play which is always a potential threat with Alex Rodriguez 90 feet away. You can't have it both ways, dipshit. Either his GB/FB ratio helps him, or it doesn't. This guy's a clown.
  20. We were there today. It was... well... wet. We spent most of our time slumming around the Diamond Club and the Team Store, but bolted for the parking lot about fifteen minutes before they cancelled the game. We got out of the lot easy; no traffic. We'll be back in the morning, I s'pose.
  21. There are few things better in life than Gary Cohen calling a Mets rally.
  22. And they're obviously grooming Barrera to replace Ray Ramirez, who's going to get lot in arbitration this winter.
  23. ="OlerudOwned"]Eric Cammack, rockin' the blue cap. Thaaaaat's Steve Trachsel. You can tell by how long it took him to throw this pitch.
