Y'see now a good marketing dept would work in a NYM logo arm sling give-away before the season is out. Not that it's what THIS team will do; they'd be too sensitive to the issue and have no ability whatsoever to laugh at themselves. The sling idea is day-to-day

  19. ="LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr"]Does that mean we may have to put up with another 20-some-odd years of killing speed, .490 slugging and absurdly skilled defense... andattendant displays of joy that piss off opponents for whom we don't particularly care? Crap. From here on in, I may need to have a beer or two per game in order to choke this possibility down, and clap until my hands hurt to drown out that awful crowing and cheering after one of those disgustingly flamboyant triples. Have a Schaefer on me
  20. Per Kimberly Martin Newsday Pagan Cora Wright Sheffield Murphy Francoeur Schneider Berroa Niese
  21. ="Kong76"]A62: I don't understand the large amount of support for Reyes on this board <<< You made a delirious prediction that he'd never play another game as a Met and now it's taken longer for him to come back and I'm sick of hearing you bang your drum is what it boils down to for me. I'm not opposed to moving anyone for the right price. Including posters :-) I wouldn't say it was a delirious prediction, but I can be traded for a poster to be named later.
  22. he might be 15 if Bernazard forged his papers
  23. It's as simple as Frankie Rodriguez failing to do his job.If he does what he's paid well for then its' a happy recap..the rest becomes noise
  24. Pagan 1 Castillo 1 Santos 1 Wright 1 Murphy 0.25 Santana 0.50
  25. ="Edgy DC":nfmzcex0]There's something in your eyes that says maybe, but yeah, Jerry seemed to not even know that Murphy had ever played the infield. Tejada? He's kinda hot for a guy on a cold-hitting team., though he looks about 15. [/quote:nfmzcex0] Why not? I believe he projects as an SS. Which, of course, means he's renting the car next road trip. Ashie62 Aug 04 2009 09:31 PM he might be 15 if Bernazard forged his papers Edgy DC Aug 04 2009 09:46 PM The Dominicans lie about their age thing is pretty played out. I doubt they're particularly more guilty than other foreigners signed in their teens. Most relevantly, Tejada is Panamanian. He'd be only the third Panamanian to play for the team and the first non-pitcher. Gwreck Aug 04 2009 09:48 PM Bruce Chen. Can't remember the other 2. Edgy DC Aug 04 2009 09:54 PM Well, he would be only the third. Chen was the second. For the first, you'd have to go all the way back to the 100-mile-per-hour heat of Juan Berenguer. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 04 2009 10:12 PM ="Edgy DC"]The Dominicans lie about their age thing is pretty played out. He'd be only the third Panamanian to play for the team and the first non-pitcher. Kidding. Hackily kidding, but kidding. I think the Stick-- or even Davis-- might be a better bet than Tejada; methinks you don't bring up a kid unless he's a dominant kid. Tejada, no matter how you spin it, isn't dominating at the AA level yet. Edgy DC Aug 05 2009 12:38 PM The funny thing is I'm reading a minor league memoir written by a Yalie in the Angels system, and the US-born minor leaguers (I don't know if this is true in every system) pretty much gave up drawing distincitoins and refer to all Latin American minor leaguers as "Dominicans," no matter where they're from, actively shun them, except when they broadly deride them for their bourgeois taste. John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 05 2009 12:45 PM I'm pretty sure that book you're reading was exposed a work of near total fiction. Gwreck Aug 05 2009 12:47 PM I think it was more "enhanced" than it was completely conjured out of thin air. Like the writer had a vague idea of what he wanted to do but couldn't remember the details correctly when he was writing it five years after the events in the book took place. It wasn't a particularly good book, regardless of the truth value. Edgy DC Aug 05 2009 12:53 PM Just in the first chapter and my baby picked it up. He has already struck me as pretty dickish. TransMonk Aug 06 2009 09:30 AM Andy Pants is back. The Mets have traded minor-league infielder Greg Veloz to the Nationals for infielder Anderson Hernandez. I'm underwhelmed. Benjamin Grimm Aug 06 2009 09:57 AM Complicates Schaefer tallying, if nothing else. Anderson did fairly well in DC, didn't he? He's probably better than Berroa. Valadius Aug 06 2009 10:04 AM He is better than Berroa. Andy Hernandy was the starting second baseman for the Nationals for most of the year. John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 06 2009 10:06 AM ="TransMonk"] I'm underwhelmed. Edgy DC Aug 06 2009 10:44 AM ="Valadius":16gctijz]He is better than Berroa. This year is starting to look with infielders like 1998 looked with catchers. Seriously, when it's time to experiment, try upping the offense by pulling the corner guys toward the middle of the diamond. Pagan to center works more or less, so try Murphy to second and Wright to short. Benjamin Grimm Aug 06 2009 10:46 AM Would that really up the offense, though? Who would slide in at first and third? Edgy DC Aug 06 2009 10:58 AM You know, somebody. My point is simply that it's easier to find hitters at those postions, but not that we have burningly obvous candidates. But, you know, Nick Evans has a better stick than Argenis Reyes. Similarly is Mike Lamb better than Wilson Valdez. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 06 2009 11:04 AM Ike, mebbe?
