  1. It also spells "unreliable" and "we got the leftovers of the managerial carousel".
  2. Interesting that virtually every other question was asked by somebody named Steve in NY. Hmmmmm...
  3. Good. They've needed to put a sewer line in there for what, 100 years?
  4. I feel like they've decided on Melvin as bench coach already. I don't particularly like any of them at this point, but out of the four I'd rather see Chip Hale get it than the others. Collins will likely get it and it could conceivably become a nightmare. I'm surprised they didn't bring Ryne Sandberg in for an interview.
  5. Best showing probably since Jay Payton.
  6. Well, if some major trade happens, you could always just start its own thread or spin it off. I'll give you "Offseason Transactions" but I do think there's significant utility in having an all-purpose repository for "minor player traded for minor leaguer" and so on and so forth this offseason.
  7. Cameron Maybin reminds me a heck of a lot of Lastings Milledge.
  8. Is he going to move in with K-Rod?
  9. Edgy DC wrote: and it may be the Hell he has to walk thrugh if he ever to find his way back Damn, you just gave me the idea to write an "Ollie's Inferno" post.
  10. Neither. Or they could do that weird thing the Red Sox did when Theo Epstein took a few months off to go play rock music and make them co-GMs.
  11. We have our first trade of note this offseason, as Oakland has acquired OF David DeJesus from Kansas City for RHP Vin Mazzaro and minor league LHP Justin Marks. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Agv0lFxUw9O.4p4icq1PjDcRvLYF?slug=ap-royals-athleticstrade DeJesus, of course, is a former Mets 43rd round draft pick out of high school in 1997 who ultimately chose to attend Rutgers instead.
  12. No, Gonzalez, from Colorado.

  14. I'm loving that video. I'm going to have to go home and watch the rest of that series.
  15. As I said at the start of this little saga, there's no way John Franco didn't know what was going on.
  16. The Gold Gloves are almost never handed out on defensive merit. Transparency, please!
  17. There's always Bruce.
  18. Well, more accurately, his contract wasn't renewed by ESPN, but still. Emperor Bokassa is no more. ESPN ended its 20-year association with Jon Miller and Joe Morgan as the voices of Sunday Night Baseball on Monday. They declined to renew Morgans contract and have asked Miller if he wants to stay on as the radio voice of the Sunday night games. Discussions are ongoing. Weve decided to make a change and introduce new voices and new perspective, said Norby Williamson, an executive vice president of ESPN. He added: Twenty one years is an eternity in this business. And today is about acknowledging the contributions they made to the franchise. Each announcer is a Hall of Famer. Morgan entered as a player in 1990 and Miller received the Ford C. Frick Award from the hall earlier this year in recognition of broadcasting excellence. It is nearly certain that Miller will be replaced by Dan Shulman, who will be joined by Orel Hershiser, whom ESPN added to Sunday Night last season. Bobby Valentine might be the third voice if he does not get a managing job. Williamson declined to talk about the new team.
  19. It seems that they've changed the Veterans' Committee yet again. This crop of candidates is drawn from the "Expansion Era", defined as 1973-present. If you're looking to lobby the voters, they are: Hall of Fame members Johnny Bench, Whitey Herzog, Eddie Murray, Jim Palmer, Tony Perez, Frank Robinson, Ryne Sandberg and Ozzie Smith; major league executives Bill Giles (Phillies), David Glass (Royals), Andy MacPhail (Orioles) and Jerry Reinsdorf (White Sox); and veteran media members Bob Elliott (Toronto Sun), Tim Kurkjian (ESPN), Ross Newhan (retired, Los Angeles Times) and Tom Verducci (Sports Illustrated) Seeing Verducci on there is not a good sign in terms of keeping the blowhard out of Cooperstown.

  21. Concepcion stands a better shot of making it through the Veterans' Committee. My votes are for Marvin Miller and Ted Simmons. The biggest oversight in the Hall, I think, and one that one voter should be eternally guilty about, is that Buck O'Neil didn't make it in when they had that giant class of Negro Leaguers a few years ago.
  22. Prince Fielder looking for a $200 million contract extension.
  23. Lo Duca became an analyst for the horse racing network TVG in 2009, if you can believe it. He must really love the ponies.
  24. Is anyone else stunned to think that we're entering Reyes' ninth season with the Mets?
  25. I'm betting John Franco knew exactly what was going on.
