  1. ="metirish"] I see what you mean. Sweater pups.
  2. I will say it again. I will say it every time a new post comes up regarding this individual. Hank Steinbrenner is a big dumb ****.
  3. Interesting. Beltran hustling down the line on a routine grounder to second. I haven't been paying much attention to it but it's a good thing to see.
  4. Yikes. Mathis sent that one a ways.
  5. Vlad goes to 2nd as Marlon kicks the ball around in the corner like Beckham.
  6. AG/DC wrote: Celtics up by 23 at halftime. Take that shit outside.
  7. Santana's 2nd inning goes much better than his first. Poor Mex - doesn't realize that the inning has ended and he's going on and on. Classic.
  8. :sigh: Boneheaded play by Easley/Castillo not covering on a pickoff.
  9. Dang. Two ribbies for Hunter and the Mets are down 2-1. I blame Jerry Manuel.
  10. Marlon left on 2nd after a can of corn to center. Back to the bump for Big Pelf. He seemed to get a shot of confidence out of that first inning DP on the sac fly.
  11. Gwreck wrote: Any DH-related idea that is not "immediate and permanent elimination of the DH" is not a good idea. I could not agree more.
  12. Blammo! The look on Jered Wright's face after the 2nd Beltran HR is priceless. Mouth agape like he's a retard who wandered off the tour.
  13. In that case I'll mention that Big Pelf made a nice play covering first on that grounder.

That said, I think that John Stearns might actually provide a lot of the positives that many people are seeing in Backman (fiery, hard-nosed, do whatever it takes to win, etc.) without any of the extra baggage that Backman would bring. Plus Stearns has the all-important Mets pedigree. I like that he played great ball for those awful teams of my childhood (I was born in '73).
  15. Perez - 5 Schoeneweis - 0.5 Sanchez - 0.5 Wright - 0.5 Reyes - 0.75 Anderson - 0.5 Beltran - 0.5 Delgado - 0.5 Chavez - 0.75 Schneider - 0.5

I wanted to guess Nolan Rayan, but I think he may have still been with the California/Anaheim/Los Angeles/ whatever Angels, so i'll guess Fergie Jenkins. You can't go wrong with a Hall of Famer, can you? I will guess another HoF pitcher, Gaylord Perry. I know he spent some of the 1970s in Texas also.
  17. Rangers' Chris Shelton looks like an adult version of Malachai from "Children of the Corn." Which is not a good look.
  18. G-Fafif wrote: ="Fman99"]Former Metses now in Texas: Not a one. Except for Rangers bench coach Art Howe. My bad. I only checked the roster of players, not coaches. I didn't realize Howe was in uniform these days.
  19. Licking their wounds after a week of bullpen implosions, the Mets welcome the mashers from Arlington to beloved ol' Shea for a three game set. The Rangers are coming off of a series win, taking two of three from Kansas City on the road. They are 34-34 and 7.5 games behind the LA of A Angels in the AL West. At the dish: This team has some real sluggers in their midst. Triple Crown candidate and potential "Intervention" star Josh Hamilton (.316. 17 HRs, 71 RBIs) and crazy-ass Milton Bradley (.333, 14, 45) lead the charge. Ian Kinsler at 2B (.311, 9, 39, 17 SBs), Michael Young at SS (.299), and the surprising OF David Murphy (.289, 10 HRs, 47 RBIs, 5 SBs) round out the lineup. On the bump: A little less impressive. Taking the ball for the Rump Rangers this weekend are the holy trinity of Scott Feldman, Kason Gabbard, and Kevin Millwood. Not one with an ERA under 4.30 this year. Scott Feldman hasn't won since May 9th and sounds like a banker. Gabbard, whose first name may be a misspelled homage to "Inherit the Wind" star Jason Robards, was put back in the rotation to replace co-bum Doug Mathis, and Millwood is their would-be but cannot-be ace. I believe that at least once every 2-3 innings, the Texas staff actually places the ball on a plastic tee for the opposing hitters to thwack. They line up against O.P., Pedro and John Maine respectively. Former Metses now in Texas: Not a one. Former Rangers donning the good-guy colors: Just one, Fernando Tatis, who came up with Texas in 1997. Previous matchup: The Rangers lost 2 of 3 to the Mets in Texas back in 2003 (beating Trax, losing to Seo and Leiter). This is their first and last ever regular season visit to Shea. Other items of note: While it may seem to be not the case, the Rangers in fact have the worst bullpen in baseball with a 5.26 ERA and 14 blown saves. They also have an African-American manager who is on the hot seat due to his team's performance, although Ron Washington's porno-stache out staches Willie's by a score of 8 to 6.
  20. Does DW need a day off?
  21. No love for Mickey Lolich? I went to MBTN and checked the all-time list. Traschel jumps out at me.
  22. Pelfrey 3.5 Heilman 1 Feliciano .5 Vargas .5 Beltran 3 Anderson .5 Castillo 1
