  1. Another nice play as Pedro2 looks the runner back on the comebacker. One more out.
  2. Double Feh. Walk to Dukes and it's 1st, 2nd, no out.
  3. Feh. Bad throw by Wright.
  4. This thread and the "cathedral" stuff makes me want to vomit, eat my vomit, then shit and eat my shit-vomit.
  5. MFS62 wrote: Verifying that they'll be shufflin' off to Buffalo: http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2008/09/mets_pick_buffalo_over_chiefs.html Later This stinks. Of course Buffalo routinely draws twice the attendance to their AAA park than Syracuse does and our scoreboard is shot. It doesn't matter -- the Mets' best prospects always play more in AA and a Buffalo affiliate means regular trips to Syracuse. In the past Norfolk only came up here once per year.
  6. Pelfrey 4 Smith 1
  7. Well that sucked. Four hits.
  8. How did the Nationals not win 110 games this year?
  9. Holy hell, it's a rally! I have this odd feeling of hope. What will come of all this? Good to see Odalis Cy Perez coming off of the hill. Bring on the pen.
  10. MFS62 wrote: ="Benjamin Grimm"]Just say, "Pins and needles, needles and pins. A happy man is a man who grins." Then ask yourself what you were so upset about, and you won't even remember! Or so I've been told. And then the final explosion will come. And the guys in the white jackets who come to take you away will wonder what you're grinning about. Nope, all that "forget it" stuff doesn't work for me. I have to let it out. Lucky that I have been workign nights lately, so I've been driving home at the end of Mets games. So I just scream out loud in my car to let it out. Makes me feel a whole lot better, and I don't bring the losses home. Later SERENITY NOW!

  13. ="Benjamin Grimm"]I was thinking about this kind of stuff as I was driving in to work this morning. I understand where you're coming from, and I'm happy to say that I've conquered the problem that you're experiencing. It's a matter of perspective. Whether the Mets win or lose doesn't affect the important things in my life: my family, my health, my finances. I really enjoy watching the Mets play post-season baseball. October 2006 was a fun month, even though it didn't have a happy ending. October 1999 made me feel like a kid again. But if the Mets don't make the playoffs, all that it will cost me is a chance to have some fun in front of the television. (And it will gain me some much needed sleep! There were a couple of days back in 2006 when I had to practically sleepwalk through the work day.) And I did learn a lesson from last season's collapse. I spent too much time thinking about the Mets and the Phillies, and the chances and the odds and what might happen and what would happen. (I'm still doing that this year, obviously, as you can see in the Baseball Prospectus thread.) But when I'm driving in the car, or trying to fall asleep, or in the shower, or any of those situations where the mind can wander, if it wanders towards the Mets (as it's inclined to do) I steer my thoughts into another direction. It will, I hope, keep me from being as jittery as I was at times twelve months ago. This "perspective" thing has worked for me. I enjoy the ups and am able to shake off the downs. I hope you find a way to do this as well. This is how I handle things too. It's all about stepping back and looking at the bigger picture. Of course, I happened to leave the house yesterday right when Smith got the second K and got out of the eighth. So I didn't have to witness the carnage. But I've seen enough first hand to know it and know the pain. Most times, when it blows up like that, I walk away. Turn the TV off, go play with the kids, get something done around the house. I think about my family, my job, my house, the other positive things in my life and just shrug the losses off. Brooding about it won't make Castillo hit into the gap or Feliciano retire hitters so I channel it elsewhere.
  14. themetfairy wrote: Why is SNY running ads encouraging people to buy tickets for today's game? If people haven't bought them by now, they ain't gonna be leaving their TVs to buy them now. This is the makeup of last night's rainout. I suppose all of the commercial breaks are prearranged and those ads would've aired last night instead of today. Only thing I can think of.
  15. Big K there to end the top of the 7th. Niese has been great. I like the big sweeping curveball.
  16. ="Frayed Knot"]Game 147; Saturday , Sept 15 - Philly @ Mets (game 2 of the 17) Phils 5 - Mets 3 Lohse (5 IP, 3R, 7H) vs Pedro (6 IP, 1R, 7H): - Phils get 1 in the 1st on 3 singles - Mets load the bases w/none out in the 2nd but score only once: LoDuca - FC at home; Milledge - HBP; Pedro - K; Reyes - PO - Mets score twice in the 3rd - leadoff single by Cstillo and RBI singles by Beltran & LoDuca - Met 6th - get 3 walks in the inning ... but also get caught stealing twice, including Reyes trying for 3rd w/2 out and Wright up - Feliciano relieves Pedro to start the 7th and immediately gives up a leadoff 2B then an E3 for a run (3-2 Mets) - In the 8th Rowland ties the game w/a leadoff HR Sosa then replaces Feliciano and walks two then serves up a 2-out/2-RBI triple to Rollins (5-3 Phils) - Mets vs Myers in the 9th get 1st & 3rd with one out, but Wright Ks and Beltran flies out Lead = 4-1/2; N-HOP Pct jumps from 35.5% to 37.9% More little stuff killing us: caught stealings, leaving runners on, etc Mets get 8 hits (7 singles) plus 8 walks but score only 3 Bullpen = 3 innings, 4 runs (3 earned), 4 hits, 3 walks The last game I attended in '07. Really a downer that they couldn't hold this lead (among others).
  17. Rainouts suck. Back-to-back doubleheaders and 6-7 hours of continuous Mets baseball is good though.
  18. Centerfield wrote: ="AG/DC"]Thing about Grace is that through much of his career, his game had a Keith Hernandez-type refinement, and it's still shocking to see that behind the game isn't a Keith-type mind, but a big galoot. Exactly. I was shocked to discover how dumb he was. I just assumed he was smart while he was playing. On a somewhat related note, I'm also surprised how dumb Lee Mazzilli is now that I hear him speak on a nightly basis. Maz stinks. But give him a break -- he's got hot sauce in his hair.
  19. SteveJRogers wrote: Wild Card is not on the table for this team. Oh I'll take it, especially if there is a championship run along with it, but after last September? After the first half of this year? Nothing short of a division title will be a grave disappointment. I call shenanigans. Given how many teams have won the World Series after making it to the postseason as a Wild Card ('97, '02, '03, '04), I could give a good god damn about how they get in.
