  1. More MVP votes in 1999-2000? Fonzie does seem a pretty good tweener, age-wise-- young enough to relate to the modern game, old enough to not be younger than me. I gotta say, virtually everybody seems interesting to me, save Buck. I don't know why, but he always gave me the old-school-ass-kicker/control-freak douche chill.
  2. 2 of the three confirmed interviewees aren't here.

  4. Aaaaaaaaaand now I'm somehow a Cards fan.

  6. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: This whole series has been about failures of the other team And that's what's made it my favorite of these first-rounders, by far. This is exactly how the 2009 WS should have gone. #quiethomecrowds
  7. Beltran's not a realistic option?
  8. This Game 2-- in which the Rays' strike-zone judgement just got powered up to, like, God-level-- just got really weird in the ninth here.
  9. Ottavino and Kahnle have been used and burned, and gotten 2 outs combined. Now Chad Green is in, and we're not out of the 6th. Christ, this league.
  10. Still, watching opponent bullshit short-porch NYS home runs in the playoffs never gets old.
  11. It's beh-REE-os, not BEH-ree-os? Live and learn.
  12. So, they're bat-flipping over non-run-scoring walks in the Bronx now, are they?
  13. Fun game: root, root, root 'gainst the home team. That way, you get uncomfortable quiet at worst, with a greater-than-zero chance for eat-their-own-booing!
  14. Suck it, Atlanta. I guess I'm a situational St. Loo Boo.
  15. It HAS to be JD. 2000: Mora, or Timo? Mora's Dark Horse year was 1999. Today was his day. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2009/09/22/baseballs-most-magical-date/Still is. Fair.
  16. Nice at-bat from Carpenter to tie the game there. Should Wong have run? It was a good throw by Duvall, but not, like, Cespedes/Bellinger-class or anything.
  17. I'm rooting for, like, 40 oblique strains over the next week.
  18. It HAS to be JD. 2000: Mora, or Timo?
  19. Went fishing with Don Jr. about ten seconds into his regime. We shoulda known then. Holy shit, I completely forgot about that. "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." -Director of Stanza Development M. Angelou I remember him fucking up, like, a dozen double switches. In all fairness, though, it was probably really only a half-dozen.
  20. I didn't imagine him staying on this mortal coil much longer, never mind the Met dugout
  21. If they're looking to hire someone who won't be inclined to curse out or fight reporters, Paul Lo Duca may not be their guy. Every time I see A. J. Hinch's name, I think, "Is this that guy who does those gimmicky lifestyle experiments in order to write medium-entertaining airport nonfiction, like living biblically or reading the Britannica a-to-z?" But, no, that's A.J. Jacobs, who is a different human being. Which is probably good, because it would probably be hard to memorize everybody on the roster AND personally thank everybody in the supply chain that led to his morning cup of coffee, all at once. Outside of the ones we've already discussed... Cone is weirdly intriguing to me. The Wilpon thing will be a hump to get over, I think, but not as big of an impediment-- you'd think-- as it is to getting good GM candidates.
  22. Also to be expected.
  23. Tampa will do. I REALLY was hoping for Oakland, though; they took 4 out of 6 against the MFYs, with the two losses being 1-run affairs.
  24. Venis Takee intrigues. But I always thought Delgado seemed like he would make an excellent minijar.
  25. This Luzardo kid. Hoooo boy.
