  1. not directed towards anybody in particular. just that as mike was walking off the field, there were idiots booing. and they sounded nearby. i was in section 260, also 3rd base side. i actually got one of them fancy pepsi prize patrol t-shirts out of the day! granted, the boobirds were out in the first inning. i guess they wanted to get their money's worth for the long offseason.
  2. my one thought with willie pulling him is this... now we'll never know. we can dream and imagine that mike piazza woulda knocked one to the moon - or the keyspan sign - if he'd been given that at bat. and maybe i like that better than if he had just another damned grounder to short. but yeah, i totally wanted to see him get another at bat at the time. i just wasn't one of the idiots booing willie as mike left the field.
  3. i'll be there as well. yay, fleece hat!
  4. trachsel would make for a pretty decent hedge. if hte youngsters really impress in spring training, surely he'd be cheap enough to flip to a contender in need of depth, and willing to take the risk of a 2.5 mil innings eater becoming a 7 mil good pitcher. also, i've little problem going into the next season with 6 starters who all should be in teh rotation, as i expect to have at least one of them fall to the injury bug during the year, and if we are in as "win now" mode as i think we will be next year, we'd do well to have somebody already waiting in the wings, or the pen.
  5. for some reason, i don't hate the braves as much this year... i can't figure out why...
  6. i'm disappointed - no clever acronym?! how can we win it all without a clever acronym with which to motivate us?
  7. stop. please. i'm tired of this catfish hunter, blah blah blah, tom seaver blah blah blah. the days of pitchers doing that kind of crap are over and with very good reasons - money. there is too much invested in them to risk injuries for no good reason, and i'm sorry, giving a team in a pennant race a harder win isnt a good enough reason. we're not in the race, so thre's no reason at all why we shouldnt give some kid a shot. also, back in the day, pitchers typically weren't babied coming up through hte minors, and so had developed more arm endurance, and those that couldnt were kicked to the curb after the inevetible injuries. nowadays, teams are more inclined to avoid those injuries, and so do not burden the arms as much - the result being arms that cannot shoulder the load, so to speak. and so, given that we know that the arm in question does not have good endurance to begin with, and knowing that the arm in question has been itred lately, and knowing that we have a ton invested in this guy and NOTHING to gain from pitching him even one more inning this year, why would it matter what the HELL nolan ryan could do, when having pedro martinez try to do it would probably mean his not being able to do it next year? its just a ridiculous argument.
  8. yippee!
  9. i can think of very few compelling reasons to dump willie and go for sweet lou. willie hasn't done poorly enough to get hisself fired, and i feel his second year should be better than his first. he also does seem to have the team behind him, and that's not something you piss on. and i'm not so sure that sweet lou will do much better for this team than willie would, either. i'd much rather see him go to the yanks and fail, personally - even though i have nothing against him.
  10. Bryn Smith? edit: damnit!
  11. BULL!!!
  12. i can make a good case for ortiz, but only cos i'd be trying not to give the award to arod.
  13. hey, i've got a very similar-looking mister met, wearing a black home jersey instead of the stripes, sitting right here on my desk watching me.. uh... do work.
  14. a closer who doesn't offend, and an offense that doesnt keep it close. sorry. its the best i can do.
  15. on the bright side, if i actually decide to go see tomorrow's game, this loss only increases my chances of getting a way cool fleece scarf! other than that... fuck man. why can't looper blow a game that doesn't gnaw at my gut? why's it always gotta be games that, if we win, would boost our spirits, and losing would push us ever closer to the edge of the whitestone at midspan? do we really still think benitez was all that bad?
  16. i think what he meant was, of all the players to reach 300 home runs yesterday, andruw jones was the youngest. but i could be wrong...
  17. i need to find myself back at shea this september....
  18. damn. i just cheated, and know the answer to the bonus question. ain't nobody getting that one. also, isn't it kinda unfair...?
  19. bonus: pedro?
  20. i hate having to cry myself to sleep after shit like this... lets go fucking idiot mets.
  21. if you don't believe in jesus, then the picture disappears. its pretty amazing, in fact. y'all should try it! if it doesnt work, just believe harder. its a nasty tradeoff for going to hell i guess, but then, if you dont believe in him anymore, tehn you prolly dont believe you can be sent to hell for not blelieving in him, so then it works out afterall.
  22. it only hurts if they use him...
  23. is it fair to label a player a bust if he gets hisself injured, instead of simply sucking?
  24. while we are shooting for hte playoffs this year, it would make little sense for those bullets to strike us in our own foot, and doing harm to a pitcher (such as by sending him to the minors or the bullpen, or the bench) we have control over for next year (longer? i forget) and in whom we believe there to be upside and in whom we have a future financial investment, in exchange for a pitcher who may not repeat his dazzling return appearance, is at an age where he has only downside, and whom we can cut lose at the end of this year.the smart move for both this seaason (zambrano being more of a given than a just-off-injury, and you never know how well that will turn out, trachsel) and the future (zambrano being a more likely contributor either as player or tradeable commmodity than trachsel, beyond this one start)
