  1. why am i less of a believer in andruw than i am in carlos...? edit: overall, there's little reason to think that beltran is overall a better player than andruw. i'll hold out hope nevertheless.
  2. trachsel 5 reyes 2 Delgado 1 wright 1 nady 1 i make it a point to give in increments of one point only. it simplifies my life, but forces me to make tough decisions. otehrwise, i'd just end up tring to come up with some overly complex forumation whereby i would mete out my votes.

Of course Woodward does hold the huge advantage of playing 2b, a major consideration of WWSB's in making out the batting order. which really does explain why hernandez has been batting in the 8th spot thus far.
  5. one could certainly argue that it is not the fault of any one player that ther wasno vocal leader on teh team, but, rather, a fault of management, perhaps, in failing to bring in such a player. mo vaughn was suposed to be that player, actually, but i think his ill-performance took away any chance at that.
  6. . ignore me, please
  7. "I can try. Give me some bricks! I can wear bricks!" friggin' brilliant! absolutely friggin brilliant!

  9. big high wall, with integrated pesky pole? edit: what the little bitty scaled down ballpark in the extreme northeast corner? could that be a pool of some sort? perhaps for cranes...
  10. Bret Sabermetric wrote: GEE WHIZ it was horrible, awful, Mike, that that that that that Wagner guy comes in with Mariano's tune playing and gives up that home run. I mean, come on, you can't do that. You simply can't do that. That is a thing that, I don;t know how to say this, you simply can't do. Gee Whiz if you're going to march in there with Enter Sandman, for crying out loud, you got to get a save. Got to. Not fair to Mariano if you don.t Must get a save. Have to. I don't understand how you walk in to that song and then you blow the save. You can't do that. You simply cannot do that. Can't do that, that's all there is to it. No way. Gee Whiz. you left out "That's a bad job outta Wagner"
  11. i'm sorry. these things eat at my soul. it's "deke" not "deek" carry on with your lives uninterruptedly.
  12. baby got back.
  13. well, the thing is... i think wagner's been using the song at least as long... maybe longer even.
  14. wow. six total points for a good win...
  15. bah, like that crap shows up in a box score!
  16. can you believe that some of the post-game sports talk radio blather is going on and on about how aful and shameful it is for billy wagner to enter teh game using the great mariano rivera's song? i mean, it shouldn't surprise me what idiocy they keep coming up with... but THIS?!? i mean, its OK that we allow mets such as miguel cairo and gus bell to wear the geat babe ruth's uniform number, but HEAVEN FORBID another closer use mariano's entry song! really. what is the world coming to...? they both came into the league at the same time, and both starrted saving games at the same time. and billy should change his song? mfy idiots act like rivera's the only guy to ever use it, had hte song recorded specifically for his baseball use, and had super-dibs on it. idiots.

  21. bannister in the rotation gives the mets a guy with options that they can send down if he struggles, or ride if he doesn't, and also leaves a guy in the pen who can come on and give quality long relief if a certain sore-toed pitcher cannot go terribly deep into games yet. its the move that prolly makes the most sense, tho it'll be important to see how much use heilman actually gets out there. i'd prefer we not sign a graffanino, as i think we've got more than enough potential options with which to fill the 2b slot entirely from within.
  22. they also compared him to a few of his contemporaries. i picked up on the conversation late, and might not have heard the entire list: Frank Thomas Raffy Palmiero Fred McGriff Mark McGwire the opinion presented was that if you keep the crime dog out, you prolly shouldn't let bags in. or something like that, on account of relatively similar numbers. they were looking at homers, hits, average and slugging, i think i thought, hey, wouldn't it be fun if we looked at it through the eye of baseball prospectus' WARP3! bagwell: 125.3 / 3 thomas: 114.7 / 5 palmiero: 137.7 / 3 mcgriff: 96 / 1 mcgwire: 101.8 / 1 and just for fun... piazza: 96.5 / 3 helton: 75.3 / 4 griffey: 130.1 / 6 giambi: 76.2 / 3 so.. based on this test... bagwell's candidacy looks pretty good. especially if you then tack on all the 9 WARP seasons he had mixed in with those 10's. i think the only way to really question bagwell's HOF worth is to look at career totals instead of a collection of superb single seasons, all in a row, and also to focus on simply the home run.
  23. there's ten now, depending on who you ask...
  24. yeah, it does kinda look like a public access cable show in the booth right now, doesn't it... i hope they've got all the good cameras ready in new york!
