  1. No picture, just text, listing articles:. Baseball Digest Why Tigers, Giants Will Win Why Bowie Kuhn? Four views 25,000 Player Facts! Lastest! Most Complete! Official Rosters -- Player Data Bonus Issue -- 32 Extra Pages Back cover had pictures of four new AL managers: Joe Gordon (KC), Billy Marting (Minn), Hank Bauer (Oak) and Joe Schultz (Pilots). The three new NL managers -- Gene Mauch (Mtl), Clyde King (SF), and Preston Gomez (SD) -- were on the inside front cover.

  3. Farmer Ted wrote: You can't compare W to Zambrano. W has two wins under his belt. In the same time period, Zambrano has 44, including nine as a Met. But still, it's good zinger.
  4. Most of Zambrano's problems are not his doing: the Kazmir trade, the "fix in ten minutes" comment, the fact that the team didn't trade him (he probably didn't have much trade value anyway, which is more his doing), Aaron Heilman in the pen, his personality. But he hasn't been pitching well and doesn't seem able to handle NYC. The Mets keep giving him a chance because they traded Kazmir for him (that's the part most like George Bush: when he makes a mistake, he continues that policy not matter how disastrous it is).
  5. ="Vic Sage"]There's a better song about this year's Mets with a similar title... Our Time by Stephen Sondheim (from "Merrily We Roll Along") Absolutely false. Anything is better than Sondheim, including "MacArthur Park" and its even more terrible cousin "Rosecrans Boulevard" The song is trivial but not horrible. And, let's face it, as much as I like Meet the Mets, it's only real value is tradition. "Bring the kiddies, bring the wife" is as bad as any line in the new one, and if it were being adopted today, this forum would be saying pretty much the same thing they're saying about the "Our Team Our Time."
  6. Pretty good film overall. Haven't seen it since its first release, but I thought it was well done.
  7. Doesn't affect me.
  8. The start of Larry Jackson's Met-killing ways. He was 21-2 against the Mets (with 18 wins in a row at one point).
  9. Booing can be justified, but not in this case. Two games into the season? Come on.
  10. Nymr83 wrote: Sandy KoufaxI actually did see him pitch at Shea -- the last regular season game where he had to be relieved. I would have loved to have seen Ty Cobb. I'm sorry I saw Don Hahn.
  11. Jones still needs to get a major apology by the Mets for the humiliation inflicted upon him by M. Donald Grant. (And, no, this has nothing to do with anything he did on the field.)

  13. Remember: PECOTA = Pull Every foreCast Out of The Ass. Ultimately, PECOTA numbers are just wild guesses dressed up to look precise.

  15. (Shot just outside Cooperstown, where Bud works security for the Hall of Fame.)
  16. Why let Heilman go? He's unhappy now, but he'll be an asset in the bullpen, and probably will get chances to start not only this year, but in the future once Pedro, Glavine, and Trachsel are gone. Diaz may make it if Nady fails. Since all are under your control for several years, for a low price, keep them until someone better comes along.
  17. sharpie wrote: I was so so so mad in '68 when Koosman didn't win. After Seaver won in '67 I felt it was our right to corner that award. Even worse: Koosman lost because one writer split his vote between Koosman and Bench, giving a half vote each (check the voting: the numbers don't add up to the Max points). If that writer had voted for Koosman, it would have been a tie. But the choice of Bench was probably the correct one.
