  1. Marcus Stroman is probably the happiest guy in camp.
  2. He won't get enough playing time and will accordingly suck. He's been passed by Acuna, who has more position flexibility. And when Mauricio gets healthy he'll probably pass him too. Has nothing to prove at Syracuse, so I can see him being swapped at the trade deadline and blossoming with regular at-bats somewhere else. But while he's here he'll be 3/16/.208.
  3. He'd be blocking too many people. Baseball is a bidness, after all. I'm actually surprised they made an offer to him (if the reporting is true). That being said, that impromptu concert was when I knew this would be a fun season no matter how it turned out. And it just got better and better from there.
  4. Has a little pop and defends well, so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets more playing time than Taylor as long as he stays above the Mendoza line (that's Mario, not Carlos). .215/13/40 and a game-saving catch or two.
  5. Ah, the shopworn staple of Spring Training stories....'The Best Shape of His Life'. Someone who had a bad year or a bad couple of years came into camp 15 pounds lighter, or with a new pitch or swing, or he just got married and he's going to settle down and THIS IS GOING TO BE THE YEAR. Most of these don't pan out or the optimism is gone by Memorial Day. But it's spring, and everybody has a chance to be the next LA Dodgers or Paul Skenes or Juan Soto. In this vein, I give you..... Mets' Pete Alonso dove deep into swing mechanics: ‘Best I've ever seen him' https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6173058/2025/03/04/pete-alonso-swing-mechanics/?source=freedailyemail&campaign=601983&userId=3308948&source=dailyemailhttps://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6173058/2025/03/04/pete-alonso-swing-mechanics/?source=freedailyemail&campaign=601983&userId=3308948&source=dailyemail
  6. Supposedly JD Martinez worked with him on cutting down that swing last year and he did seem to hit better toward the end of the season. .240/20/65. He'll be down in the order most of the time so he won't get as many RBI chances.
  7. I would hate to see him in a coal mine.
  8. https://i.imgflip.com/236i2a.jpg>
  9. Fewer homers from not playing in the Bedpan in the Bronx, but still a stellar year. .296/30/110.
  10. Plantar fasciitis is a bitch- I've had it. Concerned that he's just going to play through it, and I think it'll affect his numbers. .238/14/65 and he may sit a fair bit.
  11. This. Could be even better with a non-cold start.
  12. Bret Saberhagen and Mike Marshall for me. The early '90's were tough. I have a long-standing superstition- if the Mets lose 3 in a row, I will not watch the next game until they win. Missed about half the '93 season.
  13. This is more of an "Oh,Bleep!" injury. They didn't have enough pitching before, now they REALLY don't have enough pitching.
  14. Not being a fan of facial hair, I kind of liked the Yankee policy. Too many players today have stupidly-large beards, and I liked that they'd have to shave them off when they came to the Yankees.
  15. Going with Megill, Blackburn or Canning? Now THAT's betting on luck. This team will hit, but the pitching is going to be ugly.
  16. ESPN coverage was mostly crappy so they won't be missed. I'm sure this slot will get taken up by one of the streaming services, with wildly varying results.
  17. =Gwreck post_id=185600 time=1739994862 user_id=56] Struck out Aaron Judge on a Franco-to-Bonds style pitch to close out a win against the other NY team last year.
  18. Not sure why they signed Montas in the first place; he's not that good. I'd love Cease, but I think SD's asking price just went up a tick. I wouldn't be against a Quintana reunion.
  19. Awesome job. I really must get to Stockholm one of these days.
  20. Alonso already underperformed in a walk year so I'm not sure why this year would be any better with him a year older.
  21. Playoffs are not a given with this team. Braves, Phillies, Mets, Cubs, Brewers, Dodgers, Padres, and D-Backs are all pretty good shots to hit that mid-80's mark. That's 8 fannies for 6 seats. The biggest problem this team will be pitching. Cease helps in that area. Senga/Manaea/Peterson/Montas/Holmes is not making anyone quake in their boots. That's a lot of 'ifs'.
  22. I think Bregman's in 'take the short-term deal and opt out next winter' territory.
  23. Well, OMG had basically the defining moment of the season. It turned a pretty good year into a great year. It's not a bad picture and it works in the elements it needs to. Hair Force is a lot of hair.
  24. August 4th
