  1. Hm. Schildt seemed like a good guy. I'd at least kick the tires.
  2. Yeah, this is not the matchup I was rooting for.
  3. Looks like a Red Sox-Astros ALCS. Bleh. Both sides will bang garbage cans.
  4. That bank shot off Renfroe for the ground-rule double was one of the weirdest plays I've ever seen. But yes, there was a rule for it. Rule 5.05(a)(8)
  5. Clearing the decks. Now get a POBO.
  6. Why ruin a sterling reputation by coming to Queens? He can coast for life.
  7. We were always continually amazed that they were in first ("Yeah they lost last night but so did the Braves, Phillies and Nats"). It wasn't sustainable, and we all kind of knew it. At some point another team would kick it in gear and make a run. But the Mets didn't have that gear. Using the trade deadline to get an infielder you didn't need to make Lindor happy was not a good use of resources. The Braves and Phillies at least addressed their needs, and the Nats tore it down. This wasn't an especially surprising collapse, but it sucked just the same.
  8. Conducting an experiment to see how hard DeGrom could throw before his arm gave out, and expecting a different result than DeGrom's arm giving out. This is my biggest concern going forward. They went several starts basically saying "there's nothing to see here" while deGrom was bowing out of games early and eventually missed nearly half the season. Either they knew what was going on and weren't straight with the fan base OR they didn't know what was going on with the injury and were flying blind on how to handle the situation. Either way, it's a red flag. Bingo. We still don't know what the real issue was with deGrom. They teased us with the possibility of him starting again ("he threw a bullpen session yesterday and felt fine.") for the last few months of the season, but it never materialized. Without knowing his status, it's impossible to plan out what this team will look like next year. Sticky stuff played a role, as it obviously affected Walker- he fell off the table in the second half after they announced they'd be checking. Which Taijuan will they get next year? Did Carrasco come back too early from injury or is he just a mediocre pitcher now? Stroman pitched well enough that he'll get good offers elsewhere. And Syndergaard will probably get the QO but what can you reasonably expect from him even if he stays? So many questions, and that's just the starting staff.
  9. 'The rising whale gets the harpoon.' I am so totally stealing that.
  10. Results. They weren't there. Next.
  11. Well, all but one question can be answered. 1. The Mets record will be? 77-85 2. Where will The Mets finish in the NL East? Third, 11.5 games out 3. Will The Mets make the playoffs (yes/no)? NO 4. If so, how far will they advance and the number of games in their final round? N/A 5. Who wins the World Series (can be the same answer a Q.4)? TBD 6. How many home runs will Pete Alonso hit? 37
  12. Well, now he can resume his career in the porn business.
  13. Carrasco has been disasterrasco. And to think I was ecstatic that they got him as an add-on in the Lindor trade.
  14. Hmm. Once again, I was simultaneously overly pessimistic and yet not pessimistic enough. If they sweep the Braves, I'll nail their record. What a long strange year it's been.
  15. So glad the Mets (and by extension, us fans) didn't have to watch them clinch.
  16. Well, he didn't exactly help either. His bullpen management was atrocious even when they were winning. And the fact that they were in first place was greatly due to the corresponding fact that the rest of the division couldn't get out of its own way for four months. Yes, the hitters didn't perform. Losing deGrom was a killer. But this team quit on Rojas in a way that they didn't quit on a Terry Collins. Collins had numerous faults, but he knew how to keep teams playing hard every day. Rojas didn't. That's a managerial skill that he lacked. A lot of things need to be addressed in the offseason. Rojas will be one of the first.
  17. He better not have something that 'mysteriously' pops up in Spring training and could have been addressed a few months ago. We're definitely not getting the full story here, either from deGrom or the Mets.
  18. Oh, I know what Luis' prospects are going forward. Nonexistent. He'll be fired about 15 minutes after the end of the game next Sunday.
  19. Well, I hold a grudge and the thought of Molina sweating his ass off in a meaningless spring training game makes me happy. F him, Wainwright, and the horses they rode in on.
  20. Wow, Roman is the official boner pill of MLB.
  21. Have to say I'm liking these uniforms.
