  1. So much cringing in one thread.
  2. Hey, how about Milledge's catch in left field?
  3. Nice running-diving catch by Lastings in left.
  4. That makes three.
  5. I believe what you say When you say you're going steady with nobody else but me I believe what you say when you say you don't kiss Nobody else but me
  6. The St. Louis Browns used to bat Ned Garver 7th when he pitched, but they probably should have batted him cleanup, since he was far and away their best pitcher.
  7. Hey, neat. I'm Warren Spahn. I've always believed he was the greatest.
  8. I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.
  9. I believe in the Church of Baseball. I've tried all the major religions, and most of the minor ones. I've worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Vishnu, Siva, trees, mushrooms, and Isadora Duncan. I know things. For instance, there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball. When I heard that, I gave Jesus a chance. But it just didn't work out between us. The Lord laid too much guilt on me. I prefer metaphysics to theology. You see, there's no guilt in baseball, and it's never boring... which makes it like sex. There's never been a ballplayer slept with me who didn't have the best year of his career. Making love is like hitting a baseball: you just gotta relax and concentrate. Besides, I'd never sleep with a player hitting under .250... not unless he had a lot of RBIs and was a great glove man up the middle. You see, there's a certain amount of life wisdom I give these boys. I can expand their minds. Sometimes when I've got a ballplayer alone, I'll just read Emily Dickinson or Walt Whitman to him, and the guys are so sweet, they always stay and listen. 'Course, a guy'll listen to anything if he thinks it's foreplay. I make them feel confident, and they make me feel safe, and pretty. 'Course, what I give them lasts a lifetime; what they give me lasts 142 games. Sometimes it seems like a bad trade. But bad trades are part of baseball - now who can forget Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas, for God's sake? It's a long season and you gotta trust. I've tried 'em all, I really have, and the only church that truly feeds the soul, day in, day out, is the Church of Baseball.
  10. My ex lives in Port St Lucie, and she's there for it every year.
  11. I'd do Vidro in a second. He's a real pro, like Edgardo.
  12. ]CPFers don't like trashing Mets, past, present, or future, and will go to almost any length not to do so] Guilty.
  13. Wait a second...this is getting serious. Bret naked could do terrible things to Homeland Security. Is there a possible compromise? Can we call ourselves The Last Train to Horace Clarkeville?
  14. I think it's more important for leadoff man to get on base than to steal a bunch of bases -- theoretically -- during all those times he didn't get on base. The Brooklyn Dodgers, before they installed Jim Gilliam as their more or less permanent leadoff man, frequently led off with Carl Furillo, who was not explosively fast, but got on base a whole lot of the time.
  15. I liked the name used by the entry in the National Chess League, founded during the Nixon era -- the Washington Plumbers. New York's entry was the New York Threats.
  16. Well known Malayalam director T. Rajeevnath, scouting for a suitable actress to play the title role in his film on Nobel Peace laureate Mother Teresa, has sent feelers to American actress Paris Hilton. source
  17. Abogdan -- you're putting yourself on the roster?

I'm pretty much on Monstrous Jim's side here -- Lima's not doing it out of passionate feeling for Jackie, he's worn other numbers in the past, etc. Kinda makes you wanna root for him not to make the club.
  19. Doesn't look good for Scarlett's baby Joe.
  20. Oh, yeah -- and Lastings Milledge. I'm pulling for him to blaze through spring training, depose both contenders for the right field spot, and win Rookie of the Year.
  21. No one gets hurt, Beltran and Delgado start hot. I'd like to see Heilman nail a starting role, Soler pitch himself into the picture. I'd like to see Royce Ring fulfill his promise because I like the name Royce Ring. What no one in the Mets organization has ever known -- that a leadoff man should have a really good OBP.
  22. He was just supposed to be better than he was. He was brought in to turn the Mets around, the way Hernandez and Carter actually did.
  23. The distinction is different in the US from what it is in Cuba. In Cuba, Chico did not have to think of himself being black in the same way that he did here.
