    Strat

My first game was APBA, then on to Strat, and now Diamond Mind.
  2. I have to say none of this bothers me at all. Without reference to Steve, one way or the other, if a guy pads his resume to get in the front door, or even makes it up completely, and then proves he can do the job, it makes a good story. How many of us are shocked that Orson Welles faked his resume to get his start in show business?
  3. What's AB music?
  4. Only if he stands up.
  5. I liked Rey. He gave us some amazing defense, and I'm not too upset by someone saying something dumb in a moment of anger. I guess I felt really let down by Bordick.
  6. I was -- like MFS and other old-timers -- a huge Frank Thomas fan. He lent a touch of class to our early lovable Metsies.
  7. We had a concert here at Opus 40 with Dave and Don Grusin on a Saturday evening. A family showed up Sunday evening, just as we were closing our regular open hours, for the concert. They were -- of course -- disappointed. They asked if they could stay and have the picnic they had brought with them, and we said yes. Then we set a couple of speakers outside the back door, and put on a CD of the Grusin Plays Gershwin album. It wasn't the same...but still a memorable experience for them.
  8. Nope, it's the late, legendary Clem McCarthy.
  9. I don't think I've ever hated a Mets shortstop.
  10. I don't really expect anyone to get this one, but...
  11. New Mets radio announcer. From Jersey City, ex-Philscaster. I haven't listened to the Phils on radio. Anyone know anything about him?
  12. Keep Ralph. There's no one like him.
  13. I still haven't forgiven them for trading Hubie.
  14. Julio made news when he was traded from the St. Louis Browns to the Boston Braves.
  15. He can still hit. Remember Gordie Howe and George Blanda.
  16. ]a pioneer in baseball labor coverage SPink must be turning over in his grave.
  17. The awful thing about this Marlins salary dump is that it's worked for them once before.
  18. You have to read this article in the NY Times on long-time minor league manager Wayne Terwilliger. I remember the Twig from his Dodger days -- no one else here will, except possibly my fellow oldtime MFS, and maybe not even him. But this will make you feel good about baseball, America, and humanity.
  19. There's only one Duke of Flatbush, and it ain't this bozo.
  20. On the date of my birth, the Rangers blew by the Bruins 4-1 to reach the Stanley Cup finals. In exhibition baseball, Carl Hubbell led the Giants past the Brooklyn Dodgers. Johnny Dickshot went 0-2 for the Terrymen. The Yanks lost 3-2 to the New Orleans Pelicans, despite 3 hits, including a triple, by Joe DiMaggio. Almost all the Pelicans had such long names that they were abbrevieated in the box score and I'm not quite sure who they all were, but future major leaguers included Carden Gillenwater and Pete Coscarart. During the game, the PA announcer had to ask three fans to remove their cars from a nearby railroad track so that a train could get by. Burgess Meredith and Ingrid Bergman opened on Broadway in Liliom (later to become Carousel).
  21. What else can we use this thread for? You can hide your weed in it!
  22. Former Brooklyn Dodger Steve Lembo and Hall of Famer Roger Bresnahan both died on my birthday.
  23. Bill Denehy.
  24. Is this a team even Bret Sabermetric could love?
