As for all positions being represented within a franchise, the Mets are short only a catcher, and it's more than likely that Jerry Grote deserved one or two of Johnny Bench's awards, but what are you gonna do? Also both corner OFers as their OF winners are all CFers; Agee, Beltran and Lagares Sure, but that was the system through most of the award's history. Three outfielders were often three centerfielders.

3. Look at the Dodgers, just sitting out the offseason free-agent market. Bold!
4. No matter how many times the fates tried to say otherwise, the guy was clinically incapable of not being a Met. Led the league in appearances three straight seasons. And it's probably less true than I remember it, but if feels like 80% of the batters he faced were All Stars — Utley, Howard, Votto, Abreu, Freeman, Giambi, Canó, McCann, Crawford, Helton, Gonzalez. Night after night after night.
5. And how about Aaron Loup getting notched ahead of Kenley Jansen and Noah Syndergaard? Should I really conclude that Loup is going to get a bigger deal this offseason?
6. Man, those are some big-ticket pitching options. I know he didn't have a strong second half, but is Clayton Kershaw really suddenly a lesser asset than Starling Marte? Or Marcus Stroman?
7. Of less localized interest, the Cardinals have become the first team in history to win five Gold Gloves in one season. 1B Paul Goldschmidt 2B Tommy Edman 3B Nolan Arenado LF Tyler O'Neill CF Harrison Bader Somehow, they won five, and Molina wasn't one of them. The 1978 Phils won four (Boone, Schmidt, Bowa, Maddox). The BIE Mets of 1999 somehow only won two.
8. Looking at free agents? Are there any outfielders among them? Well, add star NPB outfielder https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=suzuki001seiSeiya Suzuki. Siouxzuki, if the reports are accurate, will be 27 and bring a .315 / .415 /.571 // .985 career line in the NPB to the start of his MLB career. Even better, he's coming off a .319 / .436 / .644 // 1.079 season in 2021 with the Hiroshima Carp. That's 38 homers in only 131 games. I know that stat won't look as sweet after applying the exchange rate, but, you know, on the face of it, that's better than Pete Alonso, and then there's the rest of his game. SeSu stands 5'11" and 182 pounds, so it's fair to question how much of that power will stay with him in the U.S., but he's walked as much as he's struck out the last two seasons, threw out 13 baserunners last season, has won three NPB Gold Gloves, and has made five Best Nine teams, which is better than being an All-Star, because it's only nine guys. So one has to believe something of that profile will survive the trans-Pacific trip. I've watched some of his highlights, and most of his homers are certainly no-doubters. Interestingly, some of these homers show a healthy leg lift in his swing and some don't show much of one at all. I prefer my imports come without complex mechanics.
9. This could be a poll, but it's not really fair to ask for a single answer, when the real answer would look more like a ranking. If you got hired tomorrow, what's at the top of your agenda? Securing a manager? Signing Syndergaard? Signing Conforto? Signing Stroman? Signing Baez? Coming to a decision on the future of Canó? Making a change at catcher? Extending deGrom/buying out deGrom's opt-out? Securing a new pitcher? Securing a new outfielder? Deciding whether or not to move on from McNeil and Smitty? Other? This team needs a boss.
10. =seawolf17 post_id=80746 time=1636308871 user_id=91] I'd be stunned if Thor doesn't take the QO. Nobody's paying him $18M next year off two straight lost seasons.
11. I've never heard anybody make a case for Billy Pierce before. I'm not knocking him or anything. I'm just saying I've heard mostly strong cases for all the other eight players. I'd likely put him behind Koosman, but the two are probably very comparable.
12. metsmarathon was incorrect on 2019 being the number one-iest season in Mets history (too late) about one being the number 2008 Mets first round draft picks that never saw the show (too low), but BOTH WERE GREAT GUESSES! OK, so I reread this whole thread to see if I missed any answers. I did this because I love you. While I did not miss any, per se, I haven't yet gotten to nine, and intend to do that forthwith: Candelaria (Marshmallowmilkshake); Gooden (metsmarathon); Burnitz (Johnny Lunchbucket); Ankiel (Chad ochoseis); Bruce (metsmarathon); Lindor(Marshmallowmilkshake); Ventura (Chad ochoseis); Tyner (centerfield); stroman (metsmarathon) More importantly, we have several high-value bonus questions still unanswered! Please don't leave money on the table! [th]Bonus Question for Frayed Knot[/th]Who was the Mets first first-rounder to get a million-dollar bonus, after adjusting for inflation?Incorrect Answers to This Question So Far: None [th]Bonus Question for Frayed Knot[/th]Who was the first US first lady with a formal education?Incorrect Answers to This Question So Far: Edith Wilson (too late, by Chad Ochoseis) [th]Bonus Question for ashie62[/th]How many children/stepchildren of 1986 Mets were drafted by an MLB team?Incorrect Answers to This Question So Far: None [th]Bonus Question for centerfield[/th]Which two 1986 Mets were never drafted at all? (Let's leave out Rafael Santana, who, as a foreign-born player, wasn't actually ever eligible.)Incorrect Answers to This Question So Far: None. As the game continues, broken-open questions, once missed, will become available for anyone to answer.
13. This is not an easy decision. Each of those top three decisions have a wide range of outcomes. McNeilo is appealing because he'd be the easiest to divest from, but you don't want to make a whole lot of decisions that way. It's hard to be confident that Canó has a whole range of upside left, but one way or another, he's paid for.
14. Being the only post-war player in Field of Dreams has to count for something. Amazingly, his legacy was so transcendent that he managed to get recognized by a pre-war teenager.
15. That's an ongoing theme — that necessity or just plain creative momentum had them constantly changing their act, which allowed them to move on from failures with aplomb, because they were already making their next thing, but also move on just as quickly from success without mining the vein of gold they didn't realize they had struck, because they were already onto their next thing. So they ended up sounding like Queen before Queen, The Cars before The Cars, Ultravox before Ultravox, and Erasure before Erasure. This isn't necessarily saying that they were as good as any of those acts, though they might have been if they set up camp and sustained their musical direction (and band lineup) for a few records. It was fun to see Vince Clarke describe all the two-person acts that consisted of a romantic, emotive singer and a depressed, detached keyboardist, and acknowledging that all the depressed, detached keyboardists were stealing Ron's act. The lack of copious available video from much of the career was a challenge the filmmakers met delightfully by accompanying the recollections with animations, including great cartoons of depressed, detached keyboardists. Also notable that despite all the roster changes, so many of the former band members remained fond of the Maels and their time in the act.
16. Chill, Chili. Each of us is a former something or other.
17. Again, though, it's a question whether it's graspable by anybody under 50. We're talking about the seventh (and most inscrutable) track on a 1975 album.
18. Sorry, man, John and Paul are not the Mets we're looking for. And neither are George Stone and Ringo Bastardo. But don't go looking it up. Having broken open, this followup question will remain on the board. Anybody who qualifies for a bonus question going forward will also have an opportunity to answer this one, and grab these points.
19. If you haven't yet read that press conference transcription, I encourage you to treat yourself.
20. 2021 really was a great season for weirdo Mets story lines.
21. I like the notion, but why is this a good time to make that bet? A solid contact-making gap hitter like Murphy suddenly developing a pull stroke? That happens from time to time, and it seems more sustainable to me than a free-swinging slugger developing restraint at 28 or 29. That's happened too, but it sure feels rarer and more fleeting.
22. Well, in a sense, I guess, you get that draft pick back if you let Michael Conforto walk.
23. Who is your team's number one secondbaseman in 2022? What a wide-open field we have! Three guys claim the mantle of incumbent in different ways. Only you can decide who comes out on top! https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lhEdmY6Nq7Y/WlO2ivVl8CI/AAAAAAAAFew/u-8OydzraagNR6V6tvTWWfvwBcqnrRtlACLcBGAs/s1600/baseball%2Bplayer%2Bfielding.jpg>
24. Good gap-to-gap hitter, and so gets a lot of extra-base hits even when the ball isn't flying out. Strikes out a lotta lot too though. Would bring two wives to the Wifey Watch thread. Has a strange reputation of homering during somber on-air moments.
25. [th]Bonus Question for centerfield[/th] How many Mets were picked in the first round twice? Incorrect Guesses on This Question So Far None My guess for bonus question: 2 I'm assuming that you just meant to grab this one question for quoting and your answer is ... 2? I hope I'm not wrong, because I'm not waiting for you to aver, because I'M TOO EXCITED TO WAIT! YOU ARE CORRECT!! You gain 10 points! You EXPLODE into THIRD PLACE!! Not only that! This is a magic BREAK-OPEN QUESTION!! You've correctly given us the number of Mets who were two-time first-rounders, but for five more points each, CAN YOU NAME THOSE TWO METS?!
