  1. Sheesh, we need five outs fast.
  2. Luis still needs to learn when to eat a ball.
  3. Great job by McCann sliding in for run #4 just ahead of Harper's throw, but I was thinking that it was a good time to pinch-run.
  4. Not particularly helpful for the infielders to converge for a mound conference in a bunting situation if the thirdbaseman isn't paying attention. [FIMG=600]https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2022/04/screen-shot-2022-04-11-at-8.47.52-pm.png[/FIMG]
  5. Peterson just struck out Harper looking, but when the ump blew the call, got him on a slider swinging. Pitching like a man tonight. A manly man.
  6. This thread needs more traffic. I love the Phanatic as much as the next visiting fan but ... who signed off on this craziness? https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2022/04/screen-shot-2022-04-11-at-8.37.59-pm.png>
  7. Nice guest appearance by Ken Rosenthal.
  8. Ryan had frequent blisters early in his career, but used the pickle brine proactively and swore that it cured his problem. A lot of folks had their doubts, and clearly, if it worked, it didn't work for everybody. But if Ryan's career is a singular case, it's about as compelling as a singular case can be. Electric bassists, particularly of the funky variety, have been known to use airplane glue to harden the tender skin around burst blisters, but obviously pitchers have a limit on the substances they can use.
  9. Strange to say, but I found myself rooting for Bohm on that double-play.
  10. The Mets have announced that Nancy Seaver is expected to be in attendance for the ceremonial introduction of the statue, as well as the couple's daughters Anne and Sarah.

  12. By tomorrow morning and into perpetuity, this evening's matchup will be known as the Guillorme Guame.
  13. Canó, McNeil, and Smitty sit vs. the lefty, but Guillorme gets in there. I wonder how long it'll take for Buck to repeat a lineup.
  14. Bobby Witt, Jr. — probably the top prospect in the game, and a rare (though certainly not unheard of) legacy player who hits for a living despite coming from a pitcher's gene pool — made the Royals team out of camp. It was an unsurprising surprise in a sense, and perhaps the beginning of a new era in which teams no longer have a motivation to abbreviate their top prospects' rookie years by seven or eight weeks in order to retain control years down the road. Witt is in the Gregg Jefferies/Wilmer Flores mold of guys who played shortstop through most of their minor league careers before transitioning to a less demanding position on the verge of the bigs. It usually isn't clear whether a shortstop prospect's bat will be productive enough at another position, but Witt murdered AA and AAA pitching last year at 21, despite having previously only played 37 minor league games thanks to COVID. Big swinger, and your early favorite for Rookie of the Year. Hopefully Yennsy Diaz joins him and Travis Blankenhorn later today. I imagine there's something bittersweet in the front office when a player of yours clears waivers. It's like, "YEAH!! We get to hang onto our player!! ... BOOO!! Nobody else in the majors thinks our player is worth a roster spot!!"
  16. Go, LJ! Lefty Specialist wrote: Alonso making the case for DH'ing more often. Pete Alonso, the future DH. The important thing is that Shreve and Williams pitched because they hadn't pitched yet this season. Lefty Specialist wrote: Alonso making the case for DH'ing more often. Pete should always DH if Dom is also starting. Shouldn't even be an issue. These comments are all of a piece, in that it seems so hard to find a manager who keeps his foot on the gas. I guess there's an argument for a responsible manager using early games to coddle a big hitter's ego, and working in the back end of the bullpen even when the game is tight, but that argument doesn't do any good when both choices burn you. Of course, no manager kept his foot on the gas like Willie Randolph, and he just blew out his engine by the end of the season. Jerry did too. But it can't be that hard to find a happy medium between using your "eighth-inning guy" every day until his arm falls off on one hand, and working in your backenders in the tightest of spots when the frontenders should still be fresh. A sweep could have gone a long way toward taking Washington out early.
  17. Alonso gets the job done against Soto, though.
  18. Mets do little against Whatshisname the Nats pitche.r
  19. Just turned a one-run lead over to Chasen Shreve. We deploying everybody.
  20. I feel like the Mets have already gotten more out of Carrasco this afternoon then they got all last year.
