  1. Pitching him three times in four days, it's like they want him to pitch himself off the roster.
  2. We go from zero to Lovelady pretty quickly.
  3. An oddly low strikeout affair for a contemporary Mets team getting shut out, having only whiffed three times.
  4. I sure didn't think Senga would even get a chance to finish six.
  5. What I said about Robert arcing the ball over the cutoff man? It just became a thingaling.
  6. Pallante is always shaking his glove, flapping it open and closed, that he never really comes to a stop.
  7. I don't even appreciate that it says "New York" and not "Mets," — or is in script and not print — because of the lack of contrast.
  8. Whether black jerseys or blue, I do not understand the lettering and numbering on the front and back being the same color, leaving the outline all that articulates the letters and numbers. It provides no meaningful contrast.
  9. I actually meant to congratulate Vientos for cracking the lineup (Baty?). But the dog was scratching to go out and I got fused.
  10. And that closes 2024. Transactions, 3/31/2026 COMING Hired by Mets as Special Assistant to President of Baseball Operations Outfielders J.D. Martinez R/R DoB: 34303 High Level: MLB (2024) With the announcement that J.D. Martinez has become a special assistant to President of Baseball Operations David Stearns, Mets Roster Central is pleased to mark the next destination of the last un-accounted-for Met of 2024. J.D. had left his retirement un-announced, presumably leaving himself open to further work, and even reportedly received an offer from the Rangers last June, all while publicly teasing his intended entry into the exciting world of professional pickleball. Accounting for free agents who don't sign elsewhere but never publicly announce a retirement may seem niggling but at Mets Roster Central, keeping the books balanced is our business. And while we don't necessarily know what a SAttPoBO does, we are happy to see the books close on 2024 with Martinez moving on to another chapter, recalling the sad close of 2022 with the terrible passing of Terrence Gore back in February. These special assistant roles typically go to house legends and future Hall of Famers, and fellow SAttPoBO Carlos Beltran certainly fits that description. J.D. had a fine career, but is unlikely to find his name on a Hall-of-Fame plaque anytime soon and was less-than-stellar as a Met, so we're left in a cloud of mystery, but that is nothing new. He's certainly a respected figure, but ... this serves to make the Mets feel just a little bit more Trumpy, and that's not a comfortable feeling.
  11. I can only speak for myself, and not "we." I wasn't suggesting I reject a closer because his signature pitch is a changeup. I was only writing that it is hard to wrap my head around because it is a-typical.
  12. Forecast calls for Brazoban. Mets yet to see a lefty starter in 2026. Looks like they are getting Matthew Liberatore tomorrow though.
  13. There are a lot of new kids in school. Use this thread to let everybody know what you think of them! Jorge Polanco: Small for a firstbaseman, and certainly unrefined, but athletic, and apparently is willing to grind through injuries. Marcus Semien: The defense is still there. He may be hitting ninth in six weeks, but seems to be in good shape and have a healthy enough mindset that he could be getting nothing done for a month but still be a threat to have a torrid week. Somewhere between late-stage Willie Randolph and late-stage Rickey. Louis Robert: Rock hard. Slow swing, but a lot of strength there. Better plate discipline than I expected. Has a powerful arm that baserunners respect, but he tends to arc it way over the cutoff man's head, so I imagine he will air-mail a few way off target. Bo Bichette: He keeps getting that topped-over slow bouncer to his backhand hit to him — the sort of play he almost never saw at shortstop — so I imagine he'll figure it out eventually. Still the position seems pretty foreign to him. Hard to say if that is affecting his slow start at the plate, but not getting guys home from third with less than two out is a dealbreaker with my heart. Speaking of my heart — and this isn't really fair — but it is unsettling how much like Jeter he looks like from certain angles. Has a nerdy voice, and I can roll with that, but the Jeter thing is going to be a tougher pull. Freddy Peralta: Ask me after start #2. That's a lot of talent to give up for one season of a guy — any guy. And with pitchers, any season is one pitch away from ending. But that's not on him, so ask me after start #2. Devin Williams: Hard to get my head around a closer whose signature pitch is a changeup. Seems to have a good idea where the ball is going, though, which is nice to see in a closer. I hate that they were reluctant to use him in consecutive games early in the season (working through those periods is what Spring Training is for), but I gather that is based in part on his bad start in 2025. I don't have any read on Luis Garcia or Tobias Meyers yet. I'm actually still having trouble remembering which Luis Garcia we got.
  14. Also, I keep misreading this topic as "I Don't Like ABNS." Poor Seo!
  15. I'm down with it. Tentatively, anyhow. Human element? Sure, but I want to see that from the players. We need to aspire to perfection when it comes to what system arbitrates our differences. Will I miss umps? I guess I'll miss any element of baseball that disappears, but they will find something for humans to do.
  16. Well that's one target reached!
  17. Devin Williams looking for his first Mets save.
  18. Benge has lost his wispy mustache since Opening Day.
  19. My mlb.tv feed is playing almost exclusively commercials for Disney properties, including Disney affiliates (ESPN/Hulu/National Geographic/etc.). Disney is the mob and it is all annoying as hell, but the commercials for Disney Cruises is set to that really sweet, pretty, piano waltz piece from Up that is played during the montage of Carl and Ellie's marriage, and it is so beguiling that now I want to go on a Disney Cruise. ON EDIT: My wife tells me that the piece is called "Married Life" and it was performed by her student Eliza, who is unsuprisingly my favorite of her students.
  20. Nolan Gorman is Carson Benge with 30 more pounds.
  21. I miss Antoan Richardson and how much he made every Mets baserunner look really big when they got to first.
