And as I write that, he loads the bases.

Quintanta just walked Contreras, but when he misses, he never misses by much. He really pours it in.

I feel like Mendick is the doghoused one.

No matter where the depth chart says you are in the bullpen depth chart, when you're at AAA, your attitude is that the phone could ring at any time. But the reaper came first. He has since gotten past the shock, and taken a philosophical attitude with him to Central Islip. He's nonetheless been lit up there a few times, so who knows what's next? There's still plenty of time, and plenty of good seats, to go root for him in his Duckiness, though. I mean, it's probably better, because he's pitching at altitude, but a 7.78 ERA isn't getting it done anywhere. We were surprised to see him get through waivers, but squeeze through he did, putting him out of reach for the big league bullpen the last few months. But here he is getting another go, and he's a welcome sight for anybody concerned that some of the youths (read, Grant Hartwig) are getting spots whose leverage overwhelms them. To make room for him, they put DFA'd Edwin Uceta who has just come off a rehab assignment in the low minors, so expect him to slip through waivers as well.

Mike Philips sitting on top of Gary Maddox is a terrific shot.

Even when the O's are losing, Oriole fans have always been, in my experience, majorly cool to out-of-town fans. Most would-be louts even tend to act cooler in response.

A 5-5 homestand isn't much, but after taking the most brutal of poundings from the Braves for three straight games, the judges ought to accept it.

And worth noting that it's been a real sharp game from the Mets' side. If I can't get the best game of the year, I'll take the sharpest.

I think they're getting the Ralph Kiner Story a little bit distorted.

Alonso shows the Flushing Regulars can keep up with the Syracuse Fill-Ins.

Keith's logic that Gold Glove consideration should only be based on "ball-off-the-bat fielding" doesn't really stand up when you consider how catchers are judged.

You haven't been with the O's. You've been with the hO's.

I think I'm gonna adopt the O's the rest of the way. Fun club. Great stadium. Rival of the MFYs. No pedophiles as far as I know. Go O's! Hey, Arraúz can play third!!
