  1. I like that Kolarek wears Josh Edgin's 66. It feels like a lefty reliever's number.
  2. They're going to have to bop their way back into this. Any ideas how to wake up Álvarez' bat?
  3. Jam escapage brought to you by Megill, matching Elder's jam escapage in the top half of the inning.
  4. I think, on 3-2 on Vogey, I'm tempted to send the runners, but he's so prone to taking strike three. Instead he takes ball four.
  5. Stolen base #22, 8/22.
  6. Jonathan has at least generated the sort of defensive steadiness that the pitchers go wild for. Not wild wild, but, you know ... crazy.
  7. I'm going to come out against getting someone up in the bullpen at the start of the game. The Mets (according to Fangraphs.com) have improved their playoff likelihood from 0.7% to 2.5% over the last week, and despite that hiccup in the last game against St. Louis, reduced the Cardinals' chances from 0.7% to virtually nil. Lineup largely stacked with lefty bats again tonight, with Álvarez replacing Narváez from last night. 8. He was the first Western player to submit to Japan's grueling winter training regimen.
  9. Good coobymemory. Bernie spent most%20of%20his%20time%20in%20the%20Mets%20organization,%20toomost of his time in the Mets organization, too, so he was able to get a lot of use out of his Family Day jersey. 10. I didn't blame the thieves.
  11. Eighty years and no impalements. He's survived a hardy body-slam, but no impalements.
  12. I'm not sure it's where his focus is, but it's certainly in play. I think it's been a weird year, as base-stealing is spiking around the league — as was the goal — but teams and managers haven't yet fully re-learned how to translate the stolen base into runs.
  13. You're not missing that much. Tommy may fly off the handle but it's not evident from that video. The worst that says about him is that he has something of a chip on his shoulder. He more or less keeps his head while confronting fans, at least one of whom was out of line.
  14. Last-place Nationals give manager Dave Martinez a two-year extension.
  15. San Diego currently up on Miami, which'll make it difficult for the Mets to pass 'em tonight, but gaining a game on Miami is also welcome. Mets also gain a game on the Giants, who lost 10-4 (there's that score again) to the Phils. Reds are postponed, so it's a half a game gained on them. Diamondbacks and Rangers are scoreless in the bottom of the fourth. And yeah, they gain on the Braves, which also satisfies a hungry stomach.
  16. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Vogeys hit was a 1-run single. It only looked like a 2-run double It was seemingly a two-run double off the bat, but two separate runners were frozen to their bases for fear of Acuña's arm.
  17. Phil Bickford's first Mets win. Rafael Ortega's first Mets homer.
  18. Three outs to get. Feels like 30, but I'm down.
  19. Tonight's Mets@Braves matchup appropriately commemorates the 80th birthday of legendary Met/legendary Brave Felix Millan. 20. I feel ya. But losing a lead and coming back and getting another is a good indicator. Also, that diving catch by Nimmo in the bottom of the first — which would have been an inside-the-parker had it gotten by him. Both of those factors have an element of touché that we haven't seen much from the Mets at all this season. Six outs to get, though, and six outs is six outs.
  21. It's 10-4 in the top of the seventh. What's your confidence level?
  22. Buck sticking with his lefties against Handjive works out.
