  1. Oh, man, he's getting yanked a run short of being the pitcher of record, after giving up a walk that was a squeezy walk.
  2. Getting through the bottom of the inning cleanly with Peterson would be ideal.
  3. D.J. left in against the lefty and squeezing just the way I advocate it.
  4. I think Vogey has by now broken Rusty Staub's team record for singles off the wall.
  5. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: We need Vogey here We got Vogey there!
  6. The 5-6 hole works also! The Mets suddenly coming up short in fulfilling their GiDP potential.
  7. Mets really peppering the 3-4 hole as they tie it up.
  8. Winans still has the tassels coming off his glove.
  9. AAAA Mets outhitting MLB Mets 3-to-2, and out-total-basing them, 9-2.
  10. I enjoyed Quinn Brodey's presence. He was rarely good for any stretch, but he was a third-round corner outfielder out of Stanford, and then two rounds later they chose Matt Winaker, also a Cardinal corner outfield guy. Both were lefthanded batters with the textbook "Stanford swing," so I liked watching which one of them was ahead of the other. As it happened, neither of them did a very good job staying ahead of Tim Tebow. Winnaker's time in the organization ended last fall and he's been recently seen batting .132 for Homer Bush's Staten Island FerryHawks.
  11. 3.07 Pitcher's Glove (a) The pitcher's glove may not, exclusive of piping, be white, gray, nor, in the judgment of an umpire, distracting in any manner. No fielder, regardless of position, may use a fielding glove that falls within a PANTONE® color set lighter than the current 14-series. ( No pitcher shall attach to his glove any foreign material of a color different from the glove. (c) The umpire-in-chief shall cause a glove that violates Rules 3.07(a) or ( (Rules 1.15(a) or 1.15() to be removed from the game, either on his own initiative, at the recommendation of another umpire or upon complaint of the opposing manager that the umpire-in-chief agrees has merit. Let's make that move, Buck.
  12. We've got a first Mets homer tonight by Rafael Ortega. We're one third of the way home to pulling it off again.
  13. Tommy Pham gets into it with some box-seaters at Petco Park. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/diamondbacks/2023/08/20/diamondbacks-tommy-pham-argues-fans-disrespectful-remark/70636590007/Story here. Fan account and video below:
  14. The Rookie-level Mets used to play in the what was called the Gulf Coast League, before the Covid emergency killed off three of the Mets teams and merged the two Florida Rookie leagues into one. Like the St. Lucie Mets, they operate out of the organization's spring training complex. They are generally home when the St. Lucie Mets are on the road, and vice versa. Very often a rehabbing Met will make his first appearances with the FeCkLes, not because he's so rusty that he has to go down that low to get his mojo back, but because he's already in St. Lucie and they don't want to put him on a bus to Jupiter. The team is mostly comprised of recent high-school draft picks and graduates of the two (even-lower) Mets affiliates in the Dominican Summer League, getting their first stateside experience. As you can see in that muted celebration (nobody wants to be the next Edwin Diaz in the wrong way), they don't even get their own uniforms, but are outfitted in repurposed New York Mets unis, even though it's likely few of them have ever even been to New York, and for most, those will likely be the last MLB uniforms they ever wear. Most games don't even have any spectators apart from scouts and unpaying curious onlookers.
  15. Lest it go overlooked, the Rookie-level Florida Complex League Mets clinched the FCL Eastern Division title Thursday, and won it pretty handily. They currently play out the string holding a .633 winning percentage, which is good-looking no matter where you're playing. Kade Morris, the Mets' recent third-round draftee, made his professional debut in the game, starting and going but a single inning. It was a good day to spread the pitching wealth around. A lot of players come and go during a single season for a Rookie-level team, as short as the seasons are, but the most consistent performer for the FCL Mets (hereafter, "The FeCkLes") has been 19-year-old firsbaseman/outfielder Yohairo Cuevas. The lefty-swinging Latin-from-Manhattan went .310 / .444 / .578 // 1.022 over 90 plate appearances before getting bumped up to St. Lucie. Among the comings and goings on the pitching side, swingman José Gomez certainly stood out. Others threw more innings than José's 18 2/3, but most walked a whole lot of young men. Gomez walked only five, while striking out 25. Combined with yielding but a single homer, this amounted to a 3.00 ERA to go along with his 3-0 w/l record. Setting the pen on fire for his partial season was a 20-year-old lad named Luis Rodríguez. The righthanded Dominican only threw 7 1/3 innings before he too got promoted to St. Lucie, but those 7 1/3 were without much of a blemish. To be clear, I'm not saying he was unscored upon (though he was), I'm saying he was un-hit upon (if that's the correct way to phrase it). He tallied three saves, walked three, struck out 11, and the next hit he allows at that level this season will be his first. That's kinda kool, and I hope he and all his FeCkLes co-stars return to the roster for the playoffs they've so richly earned.
  16. =kcmets post_id=135507 time=1692564303 user_id=53] Biggest game of the year, has gone to boochitville....
  17. Nice bunt attempt by Ortega, but his hook slide — seemingly meant to avoid a potential tag — allowed an easier exchange from the pitcher to first.
  18. And ... Adam gets two quick outs, but a hit-batsman forces Buck to perform a quick Kolarektomy.
  19. Hello, #1216, Adam Kolarek!! https://www.tcdb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/232159/232159-14563302Fr.jpg>
  20. I don't know that eyeblack does anything, but strange to see Francisco Álvarez out there without it in a bright, sunny day game.
  21. On the other hand, it's nice to see Carrasco still in the dugout and engaged in the game after the Mets escape the bottom of the previous inning.
  22. Carrasco did alright, but I think the heat certainly got to him.
  23. Well, 2-1, anyhow. I'm not sure that homer from Alonso had a chance to descend.
  24. Tradition usually calls for the player to actually join another organization before a memorial thread is called for, but some bonus Yacabonis is always a good thing.
  25. I'd love to play behind Carlos Carrasco.
