Benji does that thing that Alvarez likes to do with first and third and one out.
  2. Edgy MD
First and third for Benji. Here's a potential TPotG.

    Too late. It broke.

Youse are missing a game. Like, a gamey game.

I wouldn't have even thought about challenging that play on Benge at first. Very surprised to see it overturned.

The extra fun part is when it's tabulated how a hit influences a game, compounded with how a game turns a season, and the season turns the likelihood of a championship. Somebody calculated that some time ago, and it was concluded that the biggest fate turner in Mets regular season history was the Ron Hodges soft-liner walkoff in 1973 that (a) should have been caught, and (b) is far less remembered than the tag out at home he made earlier in the game. I don't know if that is still true, or if the Lindor home has displaced it.

Asdrubal, it turns out, doesn't always appreciate batflips.

Well, I guess Strawberry off Tudor in the 1988 NLCS is right out.

Donn Clendennon, Game Five, 1969 World Serious.

    Perhaps Juan's greatest hit:

Al Weis, Game Five, 1969 World Series.

They had plenty of new players when Soto was healthy. On the other hand, they had their 12-game losing streak when he was hurt.

I think some of the missing folks isn't a refection on the new home, but new choices they have made. I would encourage any and all to reach out to those you miss. Tell them about your Jefry Yan balls.

I just realized that one of those three guys dicking around on keyboards in the Kalshi ad is Timothee Chalomet, which means that nonsense cost them some serious $$. This really makes me respect the ad firm who came up with Limu and Doug.

A lot of the National League off tonight, so in addition to gaining a game on the Braves (and first place), they automatically gain a game on the Cubs, Marlins, Cardinals, Nats, Pirates, and Reds. They gain a full game on a couple of teams also. Four and a half behind the Reds. That's where the money is.

Weird official scoring, but the scorer bypassed Pintaro and Lavender, and gave the win to Duarte. Lavender gets credited with a hold, but hands the ball to Duarte who gets the win, without a lead change or nothing. That's weird.

I like Senga as closer on its own merits, but I also just like the Mets willingness to go off book more generally. This was also the second time that Pache has entered early (the seventh) as a defensive replacement, but then get lifted when his turn to bat came around. The Mets have invented the setup defensive replacement.

    Who doesn't love Forky?
  20. Edgy MD
His first fastball could not have adhered more loyally to the middle of the plate, but Olson missed it.

"When you're ahead in the late innings, the offense needs to be cognizant of not losing the ABS challenges, so the pitchers have it when the need it." — Ronnie Darling, talking some sense

I think our real bullpen is our outfield tonight.

    Some Alvidemption there. Some.
  24. Edgy MD
This gorgeous offense of the first three innings has sure packed it in early, asking the mystery bullpen to do some heavy lifting.

Well anyone who had Pintaro, Lavender, or Duarte for Closer of the Day is out of the competition. Senga supporters, however, are still alive.
