  4. That's good! It's a tighter version. There are a dozen high-profile covers of the song. My soul can't be psychedelicized enough!
  5. The New York Mets' relentless quest has taken them from Atlanta to Milwaukee to Atlanta to Milwaukee. Luis Severino and Freddy Peralta — two righthanded Dominicans with very similar stat lines — have a very similar goal. One of them is bound to be very disappointed. 6. It's clear that they are intending to return to the base fabric blend of previous years and the lettering size for the player names. What's less clear — and possibly even deliberately avoided — is whether they are reversing their decision to replace the embroidery and patchwork with decals.
  7. The Mets wrap up the month with a 17-9 record, their best September since 2001, and their seventh-best ever.* Fun September Fact: In 1979, the Mets played 32 games in September. Thirty-two miserable 1979 Mets baseball games. * While regular-season games played in October are sort of generally treated as "September baseball," this survey only includes games actually played in the calendar month. 8. That's why I'm wondering if Torrens won't get the call behind the dish in Game One.
  9. I only now recall how much catching-up the Mets were doing through the off-season. The hired Stearns in September, and at the end of the season, the firing of Showalter was mostly a surprise. They initially wanted to hire a GM to work under Steans before they hired a manager. They scrapped that plan perhaps because Mendoza was who they had their eye on. Mendoza was brought on November 13, a week after they officially announced they won't be hiring a GM. They didn't really make any moves except around the margins until they added Luis Severino on December 1. Tyrone Taylor signed up on December 20, but most of the real teambuilding (Bader, Manaea, Martinez, etc.) happened after January 1.
  10. Skip goes from defending manager of the year to the pile.
  11. It's impressive how few of those calls treated the ball as looking like a homer off the bat. Most of the announcers treat it like a likely out right up until the time Taylor jumps on the wall. Keith seemed far more convinced that it was going than Gary did.
  12. A really sad and truly pathetic thing about narcissists and megalomaniacs is the way they ignore the inevitability of death. Their control over others and their unaccountability depends upon pretending that they are untouchable even by mortality. I'd like to think he wasn't running a hustle even to the end, but it sure strains credulity. Fully expect the former president to wrap himself in Rose's legacy, almost certainly holding a rally in Cincinnati before the week is out, and starring at a Rose memorial tribute in Cincy and/or Vega$ going forward.
  13. Wow. Died in Vegas.
  14. Should Torrens be the Mets' #1 catcher? Is Butto the Mets top reliever tomorrow?
  15. What a weird day of baseball. Both teams playing for the right to limp exhausted into another town with the deck stacked against them in a road series.
  16. And now the hitting streak lasts until next April.
  17. Going through the motions?! Hey, there was a groundout to Alonso and Ottavino went over and covered first! Relievers are apparently allowed to do that!!
  18. This inning may well be Iglesias' last crack to extend the hitting streak. OE: Or next inning.
  19. =G-Fafif post_id=172938 time=1727736629 user_id=55] Everybody on the first-round roster, step forward. Not so fast there, Brazoban.
  20. Hey, for all we know, Severino was never available either.
  21. Lefty Specialist wrote: Boy, losing that first game knowing that Sale couldn't pitch game two had to be a killer. Maybe Snitker was the only one who knew it. But either way, it wasn't so much of a killer that they're not winning in the seventh here.
  22. Full post-season share for Lucchesi.
  23. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I want San Diego because it knocks ATL from the playoffs. Plus the Brewers proved they are difficult for us to beat Double yup. That's where I am. Let somebody else go after the Brews. They looked terrific against the Mets.
  24. I care. Let's knock out the Braves. One hit, but I care.
