  1. We'd like to play our latest record, a song called "There's Life in the Corpse."
  2. Edgy MD wrote: Taylor's already had our best plate appearance of the game, here. And it ends in our first extry-base hit!
  3. Taylor's already had our best plate appearance of the game, here.
  4. I think they at least have to force the Braves to break open the pen. Hopefully the better part of it.
  5. Brazobán. I think they like him more for 2025, but they're starting to store up resources for Game Two.
  6. I thought Alonso was totally off the bag, but the replay says he got his other foot in there. That's playoff effort right there.
  7. Bader loves the high pitch but hasn't been getting on top of anything the last month or two.
  8. J.D. Martinez = "Clocks"?
  9. Really got to go to work here. Every at-bat.
  10. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: But we'll put a giant logo of Velveeta Cheese on the sleeves to mark the special occasion Increased exposure for the sleeve sponsors might well have had more to do with this decision than good taste. OE: On the other hand, a lot of sleeve sponsors are really about local markets.
  11. Benjamin Grimm wrote: It's nice to see that stupid decisions can be reversed sometimes. Hundred percent! Didn't help that the uniforms they were designing were awful. It kind of did help, from another perspective. Handsome uniforms that produced an uptick in jersey sales might have perpetuated the bad decision.
  12. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I only have gamecast. 2 singles to 3b in a row? First one was a dribbler that Vientos didn't really have a shot at. The second one was a semi-hard bouncer in the hole. Vientos laid out and made a nice snag, but he popped up to his knees to make the throw and fumbled the transfer. Not much to blame Megill for. Before either of them, there was a trickler down the line that would have been a hit if it hadn't rolled an inch or two foul as it stopped.

  14. I don't have a virtual strike zone on my broadcast, but Megill seems to be getting squeegied to me.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: It's certainly a good thought. The Mets probably have five AAA players in Atlanta ready to be activated based on all the options. DiComo reported that the Mets indeed have extra players in Atlanta but that Mendoza decline to identify who. Cagey! Are they signed in under assumed names? Are they working out in disguises?
  16. It's certainly a good thought. The Mets probably have five AAA players in Atlanta ready to be activated based on all the options.
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Because Winker sure ain't starting against Sale. You don't think if the Mets win game 1, Winker doesn't get to start game 2? That makes a sort of ironic sense. If the Mets lose Game One, they probably don't see Sale in Game Two, and a good chance they therefore see a righthanded alternative, so there's a role for Winker. If the Mets win Game One, they definitely do see Sale in Game Two, but their priority won't be getting the best matchups, but getting the most frequently used guys out of the lineup, and getting some swings for the rusty guys, so there's a role for Winker. That's some good chess thinking right there.
  18. Not at all. Winker's bat has been undoubtedly cold. Mendoza has always tried to get opportunities for cold bats to find their way back, but games of existential import are hardly the time for that. Rough to miss the whole doubleheader, but tough choices have to be made. But he sure seemed to be getting down the line awkwardly the last time I saw him going to first, so I was wondering if the stiff-back bug bit him or something.
  19. Do you think Winkie is hurting or is Taylor just so much hotter relative to him? Or is defense the edge that gets Taylor the start even against the righty? Because Winker sure ain't starting against Sale.

  21. Indeed. I had a school bus recklessly tearing ass down my block last week when I was walking the dog. I looked at my phone clock and realized he was a little late — about six minutes later than his usual time passing our house — and I realized that the stuff we do to keep from getting fired is often far more counterproductive than the stuff we do that actually gets us fired.
  22. 1962 Mets: "We were an expansion team built mostly from a draft that was kind of designed to screw expansion teams kind of bad. Plus our GM was more interested in getting famous names to sell at the box office than in building a talent base." 2024 White Sox: "We had an unprecedented amount of injuries." 1962 Mets: "Dude, everybody has injuries." 2024 White Sox: "Yeah, well, every sucky team has a GM with his head up his ass. We had, like, a lot of injuries." 1962 Mets: "Dude ... ." 2024 White Sox: "That's our story, Expansion Boy. What's the A's' excuse?" 1916 A's: "Dude, there was a war going on." 1962 Mets: "Well, we can see that, but shouldn't ... ." 1935 Braves: "Us too! War! Screwed us up real bad." 1916 A's: "Where?" 1935 Braves: "Italy invaded Ethiopia. 1935. Look it up." 1962 Mets: ((eyeroll))
  23. Indications at this hour indicate both teams intend to use their junior partner in Game One before going to their All-Star vet in game two. The Mets go into the season's last day with a 16-8 (.667) record in September, currently equalling their June mark (with a chance to surpass it) for their best month of the season. Bums have been reportedly heard squeaking up and down the coast. [th]Day[/th][th]Date[/th][th]Opp.[/th][th]Starter[/th][th]Opp. Starter[/th][th]Score[/th][th]Div.
