  1. Agreed. But I'd really like the Mets to prove it.
  2. It's hard for Chuck to choose.

  4. I think his Pelfspective is what's most valuable there.

That one certainly came out of nowhere. that was my thought too, any managerial experience?, a bold move for sure. Special assistant to the director of player development. Not a traditional track based on current practices, but certainly within the tradtion of hiring guys who've graced the uniform. The shocker is how fast it happened. Did they even bring in minority candidates for interviews as per MLB policy? I read buzz about Sandy Alomar and Dave Martinez, but if they were interviewed, the Sox certainly didn't spend any time feigning serious deliberatons over them.

  7. Tell, me you wouldn't call that guy. > Mase, did you see that goal Cunningham scored against the Red Bulls last night? > Fuggedaboutit! The guy has wings! WINGS! > Would you say he has a... smorgasbord of skills? > You're screwing with me now. Next caller! It would be must-hear radio.
  8. I'm certain, given 20 minutes of warning, I could produce a show that matches his ratings with Mason Reese as my host. I don't believe the man gave them the market position. (The Mets did!) And they've got to muster the courage to believe that too.
  9. The hard part is that he's the signature personality on the station the Mets call home. He gets exclusive interviews with Mets personnel, gets to put the feet to the fire of men who have ten times his knowledge, experience, work ethic and intellectual curiosity, if not intellectual ability. (I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.) Young Mets fans grow up exposed to him as an authoritative voice, and led to believe either that (1) arrogance as a mask of ignorance is a legitimate way to get ahead; (2) sports, especially baseball, and most especially the Mets is a stupid subject that stupid people talk about; or (3) the Mets must be a clown show, to have this jerk snorting contemptuously at them every day. In an era of accountability where even Mookie Wilson isn't safe, how is this jerk continuing to stay in his position?
  10. Bob Geren's got a nice, solid managerial head on his shoulders. I'm in a storm, I have confidence that head is gonna steward me through to the other side. The Many Faces of Bob Geren Bold Disappointed Introspective Searching Faithful Depressed Defiant! Constipated Resigned

I can't detach Tom Sturdivant from the "The Safety Dance." It's about 80% of what I know about Tom Sturdivant. And that goes back to year one of this contest. Sturdivant! Sturdivant! One bounce off of the wall!
  12. Is it me or does it look there's a cardboard cutout of Jeter they stuck in there, but angled just enough to screw up the illusion and reveal that he's got no depth?
  13. It's been almost 15 years since we've had some serious Mets shortsop skin photography, and I'd say it's been worth the wait. Somebody pass some baby oil to Rey-Rey.
  14. I've been thinking about this for a while, and can't stop now in light of yesterday's photo, but I like this one because: The high angle makes it look like he's been photographed while standing in the mezzanine level --- in full uniform plus helmet. His smile is just a little skeezy, as if he's saying, "Ladies, I know you like what you're seeing." It's not hard, in fact, to imagine him not wearing pants at all. That Mike Heath Donruss card is seriously ugly and would perhaps be the last card I ever bought. Maybe it was!
  15. Not to mention anybody who does business with Charlie Sheen.
  16. He's held four managerial positions --- three of them he's gotten by being in the right place at the right time after somebody loses the job in-season. The fourth he got replacing Tom Trebelhorn after a strike year and a top-down shakeup by the Cubs, hired by his friend and ally, Ed Lynch. I think he's got a sense of how the game is played. Work hard, take a little shit, make friends, make conservative choices, write your bread and butter notes, and be ready to mount your horse when the officer in front of you goes down. Field promotions are a big part of the game, and friendly, conservative, hardworking experienced guys have been falling upward for as long as there have been managers. Anybody asks him about the resignation, he can say, "I was doing my job, I had the team winning, but they were renewing everybody else's contract but mine, and in fact had already hired my successor. You understand that that's not a manageable work environment, and the best thing I could do for the team was to get myself out of the way and let them get started under Davey as soon as possible."
  17. Well, then, sign my gay ass up for the Sunday plan.
  18. I get the idea that Collins' has chosen him.

  20. I'm cool with Riggleman, and his choice. Even if he did overplay his hand, his threat was called and he made his move. I might have felt different if it was a player, my team, or a standings position above fourth place, but for some reason, I kind of approve. Nobody likes being a lame duck.
  21. Somebody needs to be tweeted back a punch in the face.
  22. Oh, and before I leave... Jose Reyes naked:
  23. Red Schoendeist, liking him some Reyes. USA TODAY: Who have been some of your favorite infielders to watch? RS: There are so many good ones right now. (Jose) Reyes from the Mets -- I see him all the time. He's got a lot of range, a good arm and he's a good hitter. He's got all the plusses you look at. Of course Ozzie (Smith) for us was outstanding. Before Ozzie, Cincinnati had (Dave) Concepcion. The year the Big Red (Machine) got beat, he got hurt and they didn't win (the World Series).
  24. And young John Elway. And Mork. And Mindy. And Mindy is a non-negotiable.
  25. where's joe mcewing? SuperJoe is the Chicago AAA manager, probably getting at least a token interview for the big job, but he's a very intriguing nomination. It may speak to the team's intention with Wright. He probably would coach infielders better than outfielders, though.
