  3. Damien is at Oklahoma U and is throwing some sick stuff. http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/102611aaa.html
  4. "was I someone's unwanted asshole?" would be a great sig line. It's important to have at least one asshole, I've always said.
  5. Well, those would appear to be more-or less perpendicular, so I would propose not putting any seats on top of them at all, and place the stairways over them. If there's a problem, yo, I'll solve it. Check out the beat while the DJ revolves it.
  6. And tie the legs of a stallion?
  7. I re-facebooked it, or something. Done mighty well.
  8. Well, that access tunnel can't be under the whole thing. It's not build yet. is this running end-to-end underneath the thing or perpendicular and intersecting?
  9. Joshie done got sent home. The Leones del Caracas decided to dismiss Mets' Josh Satin yesterday after only three weeks of winter ball. Satin hit .146, but he had 2 HR's, 12 runs scored (leading the team) and an OBP of .407. He also was playing left field for the first time in his career. I like how "Leones del Caracas" is in quotes. They're not actual lions, see.
  10. Same quotes as above.
  11. Ottawa looking to move in on Binghamton turf. http://www.ballparkdigest.com/201110314306/minor-league-baseball/news/group-seeks-ottawa-stadium-lease-for-2013-and-beyond Not sure how that relates to the Mets' affiliation agreement. Probably will expire first anyhow. I think they're two-year agreements.
  12. And for cripe's sake, feel free to celebrate the anniversary with not-so-secret invites to your friends and bloggers and fellow worshipers and seatmates and guys hanging off the end of the bar and stuff.
  13. I'm a fan of 2001, sucky as it was to sink under the weight of Armando. Bobby did some heroic work guiding that team back into contention. And it's not surprising that he couldn't produce an encore. What's only passingly referred to as the "Frankenstein year" is the team succumbing to (misplaced, to my thinking) fan outrage througtout the offensively disappointing Summer of 2001, overlooking the autumnal comeback, and doing this desperate rebuild, bringing in Mo Vaughn, Roberto Alomar, Jeremy Burntiz and Beta-Roger Cedeo. With the money left over for pitching, Astacio-D'Amico-Estes provided one year blurs, trying to carry the failed offensive overhaul the first half, but ultimately collapsing in the second. I got to see some cars blow up in the lot, though.
  14. My understanding is that not punting is continuing to endeavor to put a competitive team on the field in 2011. I don't have any problem with that (I'd expect any GM to say it), and I don't think it should necessarily undermine any future.
  15. Well, eight feet is pretty climbable for an athletic outfielder. I picture a guy running and climbing and jumping full bore and slamming his glove against the rail, or a ball ricocheting off the rail and hitting an outfielder in the head who was trying to make a play. I'd hope it's set back at least two and half feet, but it looks closer to about 12 inches. And it seems to me guys who pull back homers tend to reach more than 12 inches over the fence. Sufficient reach-over room is what I'm talking about. It can be achieved, to my thinking, but just building the walking sitting surface lower, so the rail is no higher than the level of the top of the outfield wall. But maybe it really isn't and I'm just misreading the perspective.
  16. Well, I'm concerned now.
  17. I said this above, but isn't that railing --- unless I'm misreading the depth --- going to interfere with players reaching over the fence.
  18. Well, if you're not going to continue to argue about "We're not going to punt," except to call it "shitty," I remain perplexed as to what's so objectionable about it. You're not giving up completely on the season, and he's not giving up completely on the season. There should be no problem. I think he said the same thing last year.
  19. Yeah, I wrote really carefully above. If I'm somehow making something up, what does punting in fact mean?
  20. Certainly.
  21. Well, I guess I don't know what we're talking about. Folks seem to be explicitly objecting to Alderson saying "we're not going to punt" --- not to how he presented his position, but that position itself. It all seems pretty much the same to me. Punting = a football team giving up completely on a drive to hopefully put themselves in better position for a future drive down the road. Baseball GM's apparent metaphorical equivalent of punting = giving up completely on a season to hopefully put his team in better position for a future drive down the road. Quittting = giving up completely on this coming season. Meanwhile, it's November first.
  22. You can cross out C.C. Peniston.
  23. Pirates decline a buncha options and Paul Maholm, Ronny Cedeno, Ryan Doumit, and Chris Snyder become free agents. That's two good-hitting catchers on that list. Doumit also plays first and right.
  24. Go, Oberkfell, go!
  25. Well, that doesn't seem to be what folks are objecting to. But I imagine he is regularly being asked what will happen if Reyes doesn't re-sign. I think he was plenty non-committal.
