  1. Dunston also didn't qualify on WAR. Ceetar, I don't really think you want to take MFS62's pedant crown, do you? What I'm asking here isn't that nearly complicated.
  2. Four up on the Marlins and five up on the Phils is cool. Interesting to see what could happen if the division spreads out a little.

It's all part of the package..At any rate.. he is not earning his salary by any metric other than the ability to sign the check. Fangraphs suggests he is. Keep in mind that his salary at the front end of this contract is actually lower than it was at the end of his Mets deal.
  4. He qualifies, as Jose is now our All-Timer, and you can certainly vote for him. For most of these, I put the eight leading WAR guys I can find on the ballot. I accidentally included nine. Bud was just out of that money.
  5. You may wonder who is coming out ahead so far. It's a little bit complicated, because the deal is heavily backloaded, suggesting Reyes wants to run up an early lead if he's going to win this one for you, Ceetar. According to Fangraphs, Reyes has so far checked in with $6.4 million in production. This year he's scheduled to make $10,000,000. Prorate to 68 games and he's been paid $4,197, 531. That's the sound of Reyes and Ceetar ahead by $2,202,469.
  6. Who was the greatest shorstop in Major League history to ever don a Mets uniform, without achieving all-time Met status. In other words, greatest shortstop in MLB history, who played for the Mets (no matter how well or poorly), not named Reyes. He also should have a minimum representation of one game there as a Met.
  7. Without a doubt! (What's with the exclamation points?!)
  8. Ya think? Modest admiration for the nutjobs still bringing it even as history passes 'em by.

  11. Yeah, considering how one-sided this game has been, it would be nice if we had it a little more in our pockets by now. Gee's doing a really impressive job for a number-five-turned-number-four starter.
  12. As Howie pointed out, Davey Johnson pulled the same thing on Jay Howell in the 1988 playoffs.
  13. UGH! Stripes on walls suck monkey balls.
  14. That hat got stuck there when an actual Philly crawled in his pants. Valdy is going to drive a few managers crazy. Wright having a heckuva productive day.
  15. Is anybody else dubious that that sort of thing should be off-limits? Do you think anybody is actually going to say to his agent, "Well, Washington is offering $15 million per over four years, and Milwaukee offering $13.2 over three with an option. But if I go to Washington and cheat, they might whistle me when I'm on my next club." That's koo-koo.
  16. The way Dillon Gee is building on Dickey and Johan's efforts, the Orioles are seriously looking a team meeting before the weekend. Ten straight and 18 of 20 for the G-man.
  17. Betemit's a really useful utility-infielder-with-pop guy, though. He's on his seventh team and will likely hit four or five more before he's done. He often starts a season on the bench but ends up playing every day for half of it, as soon as they figure out where they need him. A lot of one-year deals ahead for him.
  18. Vinny Rottino is going for the self-sacrificing "little things" cycle.
  19. Hey look, an orange line conflict! Lines of demarcation on walls suck!

  21. Yeah, why bench Murphy if you're going to bonehead it like that? I'm beginning to see Valdespin as not so much a tool you use, so much as a force you unleash. Powerful, but once set in motion, you never know if it's going to turn against you. Nickeas is up. All shall be well.
  22. Double Dickey Down for Gee. (I'm coining terms left and right here. Get on board or get out of the way.)
  23. Damn, David's become too big to discipline.
  24. Why didn't Wright score there? Two outs: get on your horse.
  25. Torres rips a single to lead off the game for the Mets.
