  1. On the other hand, maybe Cedeo is playing to demonstrate that he's healthy, precipitating a trade to clear up the middle infield glut. 'Cuz there's suddenly a middle infield glut.
  2. Still looking a little constipated for the camera.
  3. Carrie-Anne Moss was born in 1967 and named for that song. A happy sing-songy summer hit to name a daughter after, until you read the lyric sheet. What a heartbreaking monster that chick was. Really love the way they pass the lead vocal around. Allan Clarke to Tony Hicks to Allan Clarke to Graham Nash.
  4. I found a 1986 article from The Lexington Leader that says "Prior to the double-header, the Mets will induct Rusty Staub and Bud Harrelson into their own Hall of Fame. They are the first players to be inducted." Makes sense that it happened while Harrelson was in the coach's box and Staub in the announcer's booth. I guess Rusty and the wigs so stole the show that folks forgot the Buddy element.
  5. I'm going to guess the 1982 date is correct, though he was only 38 and scarcely out of baseball at the time. I'm also going to guess they didn't have much of a ceremony, perhaps no on-field ceremony at all. They announced he was in and he was in. Big whoop. It was 1982. The lights didn't come back on at Shea until 1983. The plaquemaker probably misread the date from a hand-transcribed source. Kick his ass, Steve.
  6. Kari Wuhrer is too over-the-hill, but Carrie Nation gets to stay? OK!

  8. Right this ship while there is breath in my body.
  9. Met number 933 is Justin Hampson.
  10. Nieuie is on a team record pace, if I'm not mistook.
  11. "It's like 1962 out there. And how fitting that Ralph Kiner is in the booth tonight, as he's the only man I know who has seen the like of this inning." "No, Keith, I can't say as I have." "Well, if not the old Mets, surely some of those old Pirate tea..." "Nope."
  12. Should've sent Rottino up.
  13. Nickeas our last hope in the seventh. Has a dubble already. Base hit. Turner... I apologize for everything I ever said.
  14. Well, Johan sure imitated an All-Star pitcher nicely by getting out of that sixth-inning jam. Sure would like to give him support.
  15. Yes that is what I mean to suggest. If he's not the better choice in that situation, then he really didn't belong on the roster. If you insist on seeing some of the data that should have compelled the Mets, Justin Turner's big league career vs. lefties: .230 / .317 / .290 // .607 in 208 plate appearances. =#FF8000]Vinny Rottino's big league career vs. lefties: .238 / .373 / .452 // .825 in 51 plate appearances. Winner: =#FF8000]Vinny Rottino, exceptionally large. __________ Justin Turner's big league 2012 vs. lefties: .217 / .275 / .283 // .557 in 51 plate appearances. =#FF8000]Vinny Rottino's big league 2012 vs. lefties: .200 / .355 / .480 // .835 in 31 plate appearances. Winner: =#FF8000]Vinny Rottino, even larger. __________ Justin Turner's minor league career: .309 / .373 / .442 // .815 in 1,190 plate appearances. =#FF8000]Vinny Rottino's minor league career: .295 / .363 / .423 // .786 in 4,418 plate appearances. Winner: Justin Turner, small. __________ Justin Turner's minor league numbers vs. lefties, 2005-2102: .320 / .386 / .432 // .818 in 723 plate appearances. =#FF8000]Vinny Rottino's minor league numbers vs. lefties, 2005-2102: .316 / .391 / .441 // .831 in 985 plate appearances. Winner: =#FF8000]Vinny Rottino, small. __________ Justin Turner's minor league numbers vs. lefties, 2010-2102: .275 / .349 / .412 // .760 in 284 plate appearances. =#FF8000]Vinny Rottino's minor league numbers vs. lefties, 2005-2102: .332 / .405 / .491 // .897 in 328 plate appearances. Winner: =#FF8000]Vinny Rottino, very large. __________ On top of that, =#FF8000]Rottino had eight big league games at first and 164 in the minors. Turner had seven in the bigs and one in the minors. Personally, I think sending a backup middle infielder with negligible big league power out there to start at first in a big rubber game on Sunday night with a sold out crowd is one of the hundred little ways a manager demoralizes his team.
  16. Tobi Stoner, after falling to 1-8 with the Bridgeport Bluefish, finds himself cut loose like a deuce from the Atlantic League. That's a tough pill to swallow.
  17. You're all missing the key takeaway here. Krane was way ahead of hipster nation with his badass one-square-inch soul patch.
  18. Don't be goin' making wild unsubstantiated claims, boy. You got a source or two to back that up?
  19. Just made a leaping grab at the warning track.
  20. Reynolds reporting to Savannah. No other signings reported since, like, a week ago. 21. To me, the best part is the subtext that Kranepool downed enough cold cans of Ohferfour that he could compare and contrast them.
  22. There's no need to resort to a mischaracterization. I never OMG'd in my life.
  23. I'd invite you to look at more stats. More splits. More realities.
  24. I don't think his 0-4 and misplay were a "given." Of course not. I just think they were clearly more likely than they would have been with Rottino in the lineup. The truth is I'd have been just as likely to bench Cedeo in favor of Rottino, and Cedeo had two hits. The point is that any role he had on this team should've been to provide coverage against the likes of Sabathia. I just think between that and the bullpen usage, we lost a big series without putting our best foot forward. Of course Rottino could have gone 0-4 with two GiDPs. If we lose with our best horses, so be it. But over the long haul wouldn't you rather have him as your firstbaseman (or firstbaseman against lefties)?
