  3. Bah. Vote once per ticket purchased. I don't got the time to commit that much fraud. And if I did, what's the point? The biggest losers would always have more time and energy and dubious moral justification to pour themselves into the proliferating culture of ballot abuse. The problem, and it's pretty much always been thus, is the ballot stuffing leads to mo' $$ for MLB. Every paper ballot has advertising, every electronic ballot has click-through ads. So they want as many folks as possible to see the ads as often as possible to make the sponsor happy. I've gotta wash my hands of that.

  5. I voted zero.
  6. And the news breaks: [code:1xgnsrj6]San Francisco Giants fans pushed Pablo Sandoval over David Wright in the final few days of balloting to make Sandoval the NL starter at third base. Wright nonetheless will join R.A. Dickey on the All-Star team. [/code:1xgnsrj6] Wow!
  7. Missed that. Too busy being annoying with my agenda. Go, Ollie!
  8. LOS ANGELES -- David Wright led San Franciscos Pablo Sandoval by 464,549 votes for the starting nod as the National League third baseman two days before voting closed Thursday. Yet Wright, for superstition or other reasons, did not want to discuss Saturday night what returning to the All-Star Game after a one-year absence would mean. Well talk about it tomorrow, Wright initially said. If it were to happen what will it mean? he was asked. Youll be here tomorrow. Ill be here tomorrow. Youre killing me, a reporter said. I dont like to talk about something beforehand, Wright replied. Said a reporter: You were up by 450,000 votes over Pablo Sandoval with two days to go. Youre leading the league in batting average. Countered Wright: We were up seven games with 17 to play.

The more options you have for the bullpen the more likely someone will work out. Sure, but you only have seven slots --- four (or more) of which are pretty well nailed down.
  10. How many years were there when west coast trips were where dreams went to die?
  11. The Mets are just as likely to get that sort of performance calling up a kid of their own.

  14. A few names that strike me are also ex-motherhelpers from the Mets as well: Luis Ayala and Raul Valdes.
  15. To the extent that you take seriously a "perhaps" from "major league executives with direct knowledge of their thinking," I would say that, yes, that does imply that they are looking for a player with a track record of motherfucking.
  16. Where the heck is Beato? Gary, if you're reading, listen, as this team's bullpen hasn't performed up to what they've hoped since 2006 (when Willie routinely used his Heilman, Sanchez, and Mota for two innings at a time), please tell somebody in management that it isn't the makeup but the usage. Experience in New York? Please! Stop the madness. It'd be fine to have another capable arm, but I have little reason to believe that arm isn't attached to Beato, Ramirez, and Edgin rather than a veteran with a choice makeup.
  17. Based on his 2012 pace (because why not?), he's scheduled to tie the record in game 137, Wednesday, September 5, a day game in St. Louis, before the best fans in baseball. He's scheduled to break the record two days later, on Friday evening, September 7, at home against Atlanta. That's a six game homestand, giving him some slack, but please Mets, pretty please, don't be like the Yankees and have Wright fake an injury in order for him to break the record at home. You can't get weaker than that shit. Anybody who wants to figure out expected pitchers on those days, please step up.

Not only did he dismiss RA completely because his team, with the $81.5 mil infield, "beat the crap" out of him, but he went on to say that the knuckleball isn't really a pitch. Jeez, I nearly shoved my beer in his face. Congrats RA. Hopefully tomorrow, we hear that you get to start the All Star game. YSIII isn't really a ballpark. Roger Clemens isn't really a free man. Alex Rodriguez isn't really a human being. This can be fun.

I guess it's a tribute to Scully that I can absolutely fabricate distorted facts about him and it's close enough to the realm of possibility that Ashcroft felt he'd needed to correct me, but yes, I knew that.
  22. At this point close losses have been as important as blowout wins in reconciling our team with Pythagorean Win Theory. And after a few of both, we're pretty much at scratch. According to PWT (at least when using the exponent of two), our team is pretty much exactly what their record says they are --- or more accurately, they pretty much have been what their record says they've been.
