  1. So much for disabled Nieuie.
  2. Chris Schwinden via the Twitbox wrote: Glad to be back. Thank you everyone. It's good to be a met again. Or a Bison. Or whatev.
  3. No matter how you feel, and no matter how living or dead the subject is, it just seems to me to be terribly bad form to publicly question the credentials of your Hall of Fame colleagues. They're in. Debate's over. I guess it's good to have classic old-school Reggie back and embarrassing the Yankees like he was born to do. Let's see if Alex takes a swing at him like Nettles did.
  4. We were reviewing LeBlanc's career working with simians during the movie. Ms. Edgy was also recalling a pre-Friends show that she seemed to remember had him doing chimp business, but I had nothing.
  5. Pitched this season for Buffalo (us), Las Vegas (Tor), Columbus (Cle), and Scranton-Wilkes Barre (NYY). Mets are his only Major League team, though.
  6. Scwinderang! "Hey, Chris! Welcome back, ma... UGH! Yankee cooties!"
  7. Human beings from before the steroid era and superhumans from the steroid era all fail to live up to Jackson's standard. OE: good job digging up the old thread.
  8. Well surely you remember the... there was the... um... There was a giant fucking spider --- I'll tell you that!
  9. Fans are voting with hashtags. Hashtags!
  10. Interesting trivia: this film became known and celebrated in Hollywood circles as "The Iceberg," for being the film that finally knocked Titanic out of first place in the weekly box office rankings. Sadly, if you're of a mind to care, it's known and celebrated for little else, but somehow became holiday viewing for me this Independence Day.
  11. Got an 8.3 out of 10 on IMDB, and 94% fresh from Rotten Tomatoes. I'm afraid we're gonna need a poll after all.

    Muffy

I hope they take the opportunity to win a lot of games.
  13. Yeah, it was like, "What's gonna give? Are the pitchers going to start floating toward the mean, first, or the hitters?" And to their credit, like John Smiley and Doug Drabek in the days of yore, the pitchers kept grinding until the hitting came 'round.
  14. At the close of play on July fourth, your Pittsburgh Pirates in sole possession of first place in the NL Central.
  15. Too many Lees (Carlos, Derrek, Travis...) playing first base in the bigs the last dozen years. Can't keep 'em straight. It's like colonial Virginia out there.
  16. John Sickles publishes his mid-season Top 120. Mostly upward movement from the Mets: Mets outrank their NL East rivals in number of prospects ranked Mets: 5 Miami Marlins of Florida: 4 Atlanta: 3 Washington: 3 Philadephia: 2 (oh, s'it!). But, of course, many of those teams may have their top "prospects" already in the big leagues and ineligible for these lists, (or in Philly's case, suspended from the bigs for drug violations). I wish they just ranked the top players under 26 (or so). It seems silly (and deceptive) that players graduate by appearing on the big league roster, when the gross majority of their value still lies in speculation about their futures.
  17. Accidentally found while looking for Beat Street imagery: "Paying $4 to see the Mets beat the Reds in 1973."
  18. Zach Lutz activated and rehabbing with St. Loo before re-joining the Bisons. Played third in his first start and went 0-1 with two walks.
  19. Young 3.88 Hairston 2.50 Tejada 2.20 Wright 0.86 Duda 0.56
  20. I rather support the move.
  21. Beato was activated June 6, but then sent down June 8 to make room for... drum roll... Chris Young!
  22. Team lost this one as a unit. Cohesiveness.
  23. Well, it's exploitation because they have their marketability artificially limited by bogus regulations that should be thrown out by a court. But it's untrue that most end up in menial stateside jobs or necessarily stick in the US past baseball. Many who don't flourish will remain in the minors for years, well past 30 --- including the indy leagues. And for many of those who don't, if they are able to keep their visas active beyond their baseball careers, their remaining professional options are probably better in the US than the Dominican.
  24. Ashie flips on Jose for the 493rd time.
