  1. No. Bad karma is patriotic hats forced on us by MLB and Sunday nights on ESPN. I just wish the Mets billed themselves as "Los Metros" in Spanish. "Los Mets" sounds dumb, though not as dumb as, say, "Los Suns." Let's work with an actual translation. "Los Cowboys" = bad "Los Vacqueros" = good "Los Islanders" = bad "Los Isleos" = good
  2. Yeah, it's hard to say, as I don't get to see all the bad movies ever. But it was bad. I'm sure there was some Norwegian bullfighting movie in 1937, and maybe 1966 thing about the Dutch juggler --- three hours with a single shot and the over-saturated colors. There are bad things out there. I've heard a lot of noise about 2012 being among the 10 worst. Whatever. But I remember being half-way through Lost in Space and thinking, "Gee, this is probably worse than 2012." You saw them trying to capture what was worthwhile about the show and repackaging it in a less campy way, and you could hear them going, "You know that thing in the show? Let's do that but on steroids. It'll be cool like the show, and totally not lame!" But the bottom line was the script was written in crayon. We'd hear the actors deliver the lines and want to give them a hug. None of the plot developments made and freaking sense, and Lacey Chabert (then about 15, I guess) delivered her lines in this grating pixified voice that made you angry every time spoke. Made me want to go into the screenwriting bidness.
  3. I definitely should have included "off the twig" as an option.
  4. A little bit.

    KTE cubs

ex mets in cubs: none that I know of. Cubs have Scott Maine, younger brother of John, pitching out of their bullpen. In one of those unfortunate moments in the history of nomenclature that's sure to be treated with maturity in an MLB locker room, the Cubs have a front office exec named Sarah Poontong.
  6. Howard Johnson didn't have a particularly good season in 1986. He started slow and Knight started Hot and by mid-May, Ray Knight was the third-basemen and Johnson backing him and Rafael Santana up. But he always said he was satisfied with his part in the team because he hit the homer that finished the Cardinals off. I tend to wonder if players really look at things that way, whether they can feel that sort of thing as well as they claim to. And I wonder if the Mets could go into the clubhouse last night and say, "Gee, I think we just ended the Phillies' season. I could just feel the morale lift off of them. The whole park smelled like surrender." Now, they'd be fools to state that out loud, because they aren't exactly streaking ahead like the 1986 team, or in any sort of catbird seat at all. Lots of work to be done. The Phils management, in all likelihood, will play this out for the next few weeks, hoping against the odds that Howard and Utley back in the lineup and Halladay back in the rotation and a reborn Lee and lots of division play can light a fire under the team, at least until the end of July, when they have to make the hard choices. Anyhow, a lot of talk out there on the information superhighway that the 2012 Phils died last night, extra wild-card spot be damned. I dunno, seems a little over-zealous, but a good win under any circs.
  7. I would encourage any voters for last night's game to consider deeply Hairston's throw and Thole's putout.
  8. That's true. It's not something I tend to get too deep in rooting for, as I don't really get what we're judging.
  9. Records for each predictor represenst their predictions adjusted for the number of games played. Good job MGiM. His W% isn't quite the same as the actual Mets winning percentage as his actual prediction works out to 44.574... before rounding, but otherwise, dead on through 83 games for you. 10. I propose for the ASG, we each do the All-Stars on the team we've otherwise committed to, or the designated rivals of the teams we've committed to.
  11. If Ruben were on deck, I'd've felt a whole lot better about it.
  12. So much to enjoy. A young team. Mostly home-grown. No hitter. Cy Young candidate. And MVP candidate who is putting his career back on a Hall-of-Fame track. Both of them dudes, too. Throw in some outside hope for Rookie of the Year and Comebacker of the Year.

  15. Papelbon should have worked harder on his soccer skills.
  16. Murphy turn. Dear, dear, dear.
  17. I might've been OK with the bunt there, but Nieuie strikes out too much, so I'd've not done it.
  18. Were Wright and Hairy taking all the way at 3-0? Kinda wishing to see them hack there, even though I don't think it's a good percentage play.
  19. Cool response. How very Yankoid to get in an elevator fight with a civilian.
  20. Great card. Looks like that guy still isn't shaving yet.
  21. Chuck James released by the Bisons.
  22. This brings us back to the Pedro Feliciano Koan. If Schwinden returns to pitch for the big league team, is he, in fact, a two-time Met?
